I suggest this: we have a pit window at a certain point in the race that the pits will be open. You must make your pitstop in this window, if not, you get a penalty. Say, around 30 minutes if it's an hour race (25-35?). Thoughts? This is used in another series I'm in, it works fairly well.

It's a 90 minute race so maybe have 2 pit windows at about the 30 and 60 minute mark. How do you think that would work out?

Couldn't we call a gentleman's yellow flag, gather everyone up, we all pit and change tires, and restart at a particular point on the track? The leader can call it at any point of the race.

I actually considered changing tires coming to the final lap, but I started to lose too much time on my mediums because I wore out the left front. I was about a second faster on new hards when I switched over with 6 or 7 to go.

With that said, whatever rules you want to change/amend, I'm game with. 👍

I really like the pit window idea. What do you think of having 2 pit windows around the 30 minute and 60 minute marks?

how about just between the 30 and 60 minute mark. What are we discussing anyway? what race?

The Red Bull X2014 Junior Championship. The tires last too long. Maybe just changing tire wear to fast will do the trick.

Sucks that i've missed 2 races now i think. I love those things! Need to check schedule for next one.

Yeah, i could have told you someone would abuse the required pitstop rule and change after lap 1. Never fails if you dont disallow that in the reg's.

Edit: i missed Spa? Farg!!!:banghead::banghead::banghead: I was really looking forward to that one.

What abuse would that be? Others tried stretching the RM tires but used them up. I had to work at it to have RM still good at the end. No abuse IMO.

P.S. Don't be an armchair quarterback. Get in the game!

For the record, I had no problem with your strategy. Tire wear was a factor in my case, so I couldn't stay on my mediums. But being less abusive on your tires allowed them to last, providing you with said, lap 1 pit strategy. I kinda like seeing how things play out when people try different things. It made for an interesting finish in the race Saturday.

I was still rocking and rolling with the RMs, but I just didn't know how bad the RHs were. I wasn't able to test difference because of the dialog box closing as I entered the pit. A couple of laps before I pitted I ran a 13.8. After I pitted I was running mid 15s. I could have easily gone 38 laps and pitted with one lap to go. My LF had just gone to 7 when I pitted on lap 26 and my RF was at 8 and both rear tires were at 9. At Silverstone tire wear was a factor and you couldn't go the distance on RMs and so I assumed it would be the same at Spa. Although going 38 laps on RMs and 1 lap on RHs was certainly not in the spirit of the rule it was certainly within the rules and it is what I would have had to do if I had known how much slower the RHs were going to be. I am considering 4 things for Monza. 1) Putting tire wear on fast 2) Having a minimum number of laps on the RHs 3) Having 1 pit window 4) Having 2 pit windows. Thoughts?

Just test the tire wear first and see what you feel works best for the event.

The only suggestion i would ever have is if you want to encourage multiple tire use and dont want drivers pitting after 1 lap to put on the best tire (what any good strategist would do if the faster tires can last), is to have a rule that you cannot change tires in the first X number of laps or minutes. Keeps things simple and is in the spirit of what you are trying to accomplish with the required tire change rule.

FYI, Real winners play by the rules (as i did and asked about up front before the start). Spirits are for the after life!

P.S. Lighten up.

Don't worry, like me, it will be simple.

Ok, I have decided on 1 large pit window from lap 18-30 at Monza and from lap 15-30 at Suzuka. That is the most simple and flexible solution. If anyone sees an inherent problem with that let me know. Thanks!

Howdy guys. Glad to see the club is still going strong through the summer. Hopefully as we go into Fall i'l be able to return to the league. Ended up dropping from the race team to work full time at my job (working my way up to manager). F&C a few more races (Belle Isle Grand Prix, Formula SAE, Chumpcar 14H @ MIS), Got the Fiero running, Went to the Woodward dream cruise, Went to my first football game (Detroit Lions vs New York Jets), and got my hands on the Oculus Rift DK2. busy summer. Hopefully I can get nights off for Saturday (or Friday) but if not you will still see me pop in the practice rooms from time to time.

Good to hear from you again Friend! Looks like your summer has been packed up and we are all looking forward to racing with you again soon 👍

Busy real life, yay! Great to hear from you and we look forward to racing with you again. 👍

It's too late to say something now, but I don't think this will be a good idea. The Spa race was a lot like an F1 race of today. No fuel, used two compounds of tires, and you wanted to make them wear out faster? I'm sorry, @Psycho Turtle, that won't work (in my opinion).

That kinda sounds like what we've done so far, doesn't it? I wasn't there for round 1, so I don't know what you guys did.

Anybody??

I'm giving it 5 minutes, 10:05. If no one shows up, I'm closing the room.

Edit: Room closed. Where everyone be tonight? :(
