1.06 Update Details

A race car is designed to work best at the upper reaches of its limit as that's the operating window its expected to be working in. It will however probably be a pig to drive at slower speeds. A road car is designed to be operated at the lower reaches of its ability so is best suited to those speeds. The quicker you go in one, the harder it becomes to drive. It's no wonder that an amateur managed to drive one relatively quickly, and found it easy, since that's what it was designed for and set up to do. Down force, racing tyres and suspension set up for a particular track will make a race car feel like it's doing most of the work for you.

On track a racing car is in it's element. A road car, even a sporting one, isn't. It's a fish out of water.

Well said 👍

Ignoring downforce, I would guess >99% of people playing this game have never driven anything on slicks beyond maybe an indoor kart.

They have no idea how hard it is to find the limit in a proper race car on slicks... the indicators when you get close to the limit aren't anywhere near as clear as those you get in a road car on road tyres. There's no roll & no pitch... the weight transfer sensations are so much more tightly controlled. They don't give up grip like a treaded tyre... less progressive, less sliding. But there's so much grip it feels easy... Right up to the point they don't have grip. Then you spin/crash.

Add downforce in to the mix and the whole thing is magnified... to the point you often have to just 'turn in and trust the grip' a few time to try and find the limit.

Race cars... easy to drive slowly. Incredibly difficult to drive quickly.

Question for y'all: can any car in the game be driven on any track in the game, as a practice mode, without the need for PS+?

To the people complaining about tires being more grippy now. Have you ever been on track day with sports tires and noticed how grippy sports tires actually are? Before this update sports tires were completely botched and offered grip levels of a banana peel. Now they are much more representative of sports tires in real life.
Not had the pleasure to try the new GTS physics yet so cant comment on that. But the sports tyres comment i can relate too! I drove a F430 at silverstone and the instructor kept telling me to go faster round Abbey and i was convinced I'd loose it, but on my last lap I went as fast as I'd dare and the grip was incredible!! I can only imagine what full warmed up slick would be like!!!!

How does the car drive compared to real life and in-game do you think?

I haven't driven the Peugeot IRL, but I guarantee it handles nothing like the car in the game.

Front wheel drive physics in GTS are utter garbage (as they have been in all the versions of GT).

Yet another thread derailed by a piss contest of which game is better. If this matters to you, then please discuss the matter in their appropriate threads.

Moving on...
Some of you have highlighted that the new handling system improves grip, the overall experience has improved, and that it is helping preventing collisions. However, I'm having the complete opposite experience.

Two major aspects in this update stand out, and are making my experience unnecessarily difficult. I drive with a Logitech G29 on default settings, ABS 1, TC depending on the car, everything else off.

-throttle control feels more like a on/off switch.
-braking distances have increased (have to brake much earlier).

And just recently I've encountered an odd situation.
After doing the qualify for about ten minutes, followed by the warm up lap, as soon as the race started and I regained control, my car no longer felt the same.
It was as if the wheel had become loose. I had to turn the wheel well over the 90 degree angle on corners that rarely require 45 degrees. I felt that I had to turn more than necessary. This was strange because I did not change any options, and minutes before everything felt fine.

Am I suffering from some sort of placebo effect, or this this new handling system much harder?

 - In line with the improvements in the physics simulation model, the difficulty level of the Driving School and Mission Challenge were adjusted.

I wonder which ones were adjusted. There were 2-3 in Driving School that I absolutely was losing my mind and couldn't do. Wonder if that's affected lol. Will give it a go when i get home from work!

Thats my other drive, and when i drive it fast on country roads the car gets really light and slippery as i push on.

So stop talking whack about grippy.

Grippy at 30 mph because thats how you drive well below tire threshold. So cool yourself about a sports audi TT is grippy, yet when my road car can be made to be slippery with road tires when driving hard.
Nice ride, you could always lower it like mine :)

I had the same thing with my wheel. It messed up my race pace.

Since you can't be civil, you are no longer welcome here.

Another Clueless grom.

GT Physics are awesome, it’s there recent tire model changes are for the millions of new Pad users who are now trying it out and struggling to fathom Car physics.

Man I need to improve to alien level because some of you talking whack are probably faster then me and that’s just embarrassing

You can race other AI cars and yourself without PS+. For the first month nearly of ownership that is all I did and really enjoyed it. I still mainly race offline.

Where is the tuning prohibited setting? I would also like for the exhaust sound to be louder than the transmission. I've never driven a true from the ground up race car, but I have to believe the transmission whine does not drown out the open exhaust sound in them.

Clueless grrom?? PMSL

Go check my near 10 year post history (easy enough to do in my profile). GT Academy UK finalist, numerous top 10 time trial finishes in GT5/6, extensive real life kart/race/rally experience.

All I've seen from you is a picture of your hairdressers car.

Feel free to add me and compare times :) - PSN: PapaSierra4

Hi! Can someone please kindly further explain the leaderboard reset for campaign? So all is completely reset (not just the ones with sports tires)? Can you still see what your 'Best time:' (in the menu screen) you got before the reset or is that gone too? Are the friends times gone? No more sub-10 second times?

Well the Shelby Cobra is 2 Million cr :ill: so I think I have quite a bit of grinding to get this. The other 2 cars are 1 Million a piece.

The best part of the update for me is the individual car sounds. I tried it out with headphones, adjusting your engine sound in cockpit and the other sounds as a (-minus) the engines have come alive for me at the top end of the rev range! I can hear them over the Transmission and tire squeals at last!

This is great. I also like the new Autumn Scapes and the handling on DS4 all feels a little tighter.

These recent updates and PD listening to the community is good, as is it all being implemented so quickly and all so polished. The game just feels solid now.

Here are the sound options for those that haven't downloaded it yet (Just over 1gb).

P>S You have to adjust these before you race as you can not adjust them on the fly like many other options.👍

Is there a setting to adjust chat volume too?

Looks like the pitlane glitch is fixed - but for anyone trying to drive the actual lap for credits/XP, be warned that the new Audi is in the pack and so much better on fuel that, as soon as he gets clear sight of the track, you can almost never beat it in an N100/RSS car any more. I've had one victory from four, and he's hitting 10'5x laps now.

Haha! In (level 50) before the lock, whew!

Since the latest update you can change the sound balance however you like in the options menu.

Haven't tried the update yet but just wanted to note this.

I run a set of these on my Mustang for track days. Its a DOT rated (meaning street legal) R-compound tire. In my mind, this is what I'd consider a Sport: Soft tire to be. On the verge of being illegal, and tread wear ratings that'll make you cry.

Grip on these things is nuts. I thought the N cars were very loose before (the reason I didn't really use them), so I guess I'll have to jump on and try this out.

It's rather difficult to say actually. One of the great difficulties people run into when they say "my car in the game doesn't handle like the real thing" is that they don't habitually take corners on the public road at 100mph+ and then drift across the full width of the road for the next bend, or hit max braking four times a minute. Track driving and road driving are very different things - even when the track is a road. There's also assists to take into account, as game assists like TCS are rather brute force compared to the real thing. With traction control on in GTS, the game simply limits engine power when grip is lost, whereas a real car may act in a different fashion and allow some slip on one wheel. Not to mention the fact that the real car has assists that the game doesn't simulate - ESP, for example, which is standard fit across just about all of the European market.

However, I can say that in the previous version of GT Sport as recently as midnight last night, booting the 208 GTI PS full throttle out of a second gear corner at 30mph resulted in a far greater loss of traction even on Sport Soft tyres than the real car exhibits on its all-seasons.

And why that is so important ? apart from when you are trying to overtake someone with serious lag issues never experienced an issue with the connection quality of other users, just wondering if I am missing something.
Watch this video from 17 mins and you will realise why

I just got a chance to try it. :) It's a nice improvement so far for me and I'm having fun. But I had to come back and look at this thread because I think it is funny that the PC master race sim racers are on the GT Sport forum desperate to let people know GT Sport is terrible and is not a sim and their favourite game is the real sim.

I wonder why they feel the need? Does it bother them that online racing is more popular on GT Sport? Does it worry them that people have been quitting iRacing (I did)? I think it is funny how they feel the need to tell us we are wrong if we like it and if we think it is better than other sims. :D

I did not declare anything.AC is not similar to GTS and thats a fact, not just my opinion.
It is not a fact. I already gave you an example of how it is similar. The fact is the developers originally wanted to bring the GT experience to PC or didn't you know that? The fact is they both have similar driving aids. They do have similarities so you can't claim what you have as a fact
The differences are way more than the similarities.
I can play this game if you want.GTS is supposed to be an e-sports title above anything else. Not even close to AC that wants to be a realist driving experience more than anything else.
Please give me a link where Kunos claim that they want to create the GT experience for PC btw.
You really try to tell me that when AC went onmarket,it was supposed to be similar to any of the GT title?
You can believe whatever you want. Kunos have talked about the history of their game and how they first wanted and how it evolved from there. I can't remember if it is in a video on Youtube or in a thread on the forum. But I'm interested in watching or reading it again myself now so hopefully I'll find time to find it again.

Hang on, I don't think this is the one I am thinking about but they say virtually the same thing at the start and I've just started watching it so for now I'll leave this here

GT Sport more sim than Pcars 2?

LMAO

When GT get a tyre model according every car category, pressure, temperature and simulated tyre flex (not only visual) call me.

When GT get more real cars, an not PD Gr1,3,4,B race car based on real models... Call me

When GT get a tree point rotation car model, call me

When GT get rid off the "hand of God" that helps to recover the car even with all types off aids deactivated call me.

When GT get better colision physics and mechanical and visual damage, call me.

When GT get brake fade, call me.

Until then, fun game, but not at all a Sim...

One thing you are right, assetto corsa just cruch GT in simulation
None of that matters if it isn't accurate and if the cars don't drive in a believable way. At the moment PC2 isn't very good. Hopefully that will change after this update. At least the demo is improved a lot but I'm guessing if you don't like GT Sport and the update then you probably don't like the PCARS 2 demo and won't like the update that is coming as the demo is much easier to drive.

But can you go round every corner full throttle ;)
Can you go full throttle around every corner in the game? If so tell what your PSN is so I can watch your first place video in the leaderboards.

How do the Ferraris handle now? In particular, the road-legal 458 Italia and LaFerrari? Both had way too much wheel spin during acceleration and the brakes felt like they wouldn't bite at all. I couldn't keep the LaFerrari on the pavement at the Nurburgring either.

CJ

Ok great, I was wondering whether or not there were certain cars or tracks that cannot be unlocked without doing online racing with PS+. With the expanded offline career mode, I'm thinking I'll finally pick this game up!
