Just jumped on this. 10 bucks a car? Sold.
Damn, there's some great stuff in that lot. Awesome score. 👍
Sakura..... is in April!
I did a blog post on the very first TLV Skyline Super Silhouette few days ago. FINALLY() finished creating the post on the second & the third. Made this picture with all three Skyline Silhouettes. I kinda like it.
Notice the 80's theme I created with the color.
80's goodness. "Coca~Cola light"
Yeah, those Alfas are brilliant. The detail that has gone into it is nothing less than mind-boggling. The blue colour of mine really pops, worth every dollar IMO.Apologies for double post. Latest stuff from AmiAmi arrived. Nissan GT-R, Alfa Romeo GT1600 Junior's and Tomica VW Polo patrol car. GT-R is every bit as good as I expected it to be but damn, the Alfa's are just so beautiful.

Congrats on some sweet Tomicas guys. 👍
My Skyline post got a 'like' from Dan @TheCracker! Did not seem that coming. At least not in this thread! Nice!
Good to know, good to know!I stalk all these model threads

It's the only Pop Culture series I may actually be interested in, too. Boooo, Mattel. Boooo. Not even real riders. Hahahaha.
To me, it looks like they are not even trying on these Pop Culture cars anymore. This Yellow Submarine release is by far my favorite, and I'm with you, it's "big pile of meh". Super Mario thing was a big joke, though they still seem to sell well. Unbelievable. Just random Mario images placed on random castings.Outside of the Mini and Kool Kombi, the other cars are a big pile of meh. Blistercard art is real neat though.
I've never understood this. If they have the license for Mario, why not just do a Mario-kart?
Alright, I've had it with this thread. I'm going to challenge the status quo and bring forth the revolution!
As my first act against the ruling class, I'm posting these pictures of a 1/87 model!
Seriously though, I was really curious as to what these Schuco 1/87s are like. Schuco have a pretty impressive catalog of cars in that scale. It's the race cars I really like, because there's usually a nice choice of different liveries for each car. Or at least that was the case with the BMW 320i I got.
Could have gotten the Jagermeister, but I already have the Kyosho, so why not mix it up a bit?
(also, the Jagermeister was more expensive)
@a6m5 Paint flakes!
It looks really nice actually, but some comparison shots are probably in order.
That's a pretty huge size difference, especially considering that the Kyosho BMW 320i is not exactly a massive casting (I'm fairly sure it's actually a bit smaller than 1/64).
And another comparison shot with a model more of you may be familiar with.
Yeah, that's the Hot Wheels, but some hack decided to modify it.
Okay, now for my thoughts. It's a really nice model considering the scale. There are a few areas where it actually beats out the Kyosho, such as the tampos. Might not be visible all that well on the pictures, but you can actually see some orange through the white parts of the tampos. This is probably not Kyosho's fault, as that orange is a lot brighter than the gold on the Schuco. Kind of wish I had the Jagermeister Schuco for comparison now.
However, since the Kyosho is bigger, they could get away with using some separate parts to make it look better. The taillights are separate clear red pieces and look far better than the printed red blocks on the Schuco. Same with the little spoiler thing (?) at the back end of the roof. That's a separate piece on the Kyosho and a part of the body on the Schuco. This should be a good thing, but sadly there's a visible mark where the plastic piece was detached from the sprue... which I didn't take a picture of, naturally. Trust me, it's there though and I prefer the Schuco in this regard.
One negative about the Schuco is the prominent intake on the rear end of the car. The one that's part of the widebody. It's not even there on the Schuco! It's not that small a detail and it looks really good on the Kyosho, but Schuco didn't even paint it black or anything. Lame!
To be honest though, in the end it's all a bit pointless as they're two different scales and unfortunately for Schuco, I'll always prioritize 1/64 over anything else. The final nail in the coffin for Schuco 1/87 however is the price. These cars are often as expensive if not more expensive than similar 1/64s, so I just don't think it's worth it.
Though I should mention that the Schuco comes with a rather nice display case that Kyoshos lack.
I really like the display case because it has a really nifty system to attach the car to the base.
The little plastic piece slots into the groove on the car and using a little wing bolt style system you just turn it 90 degrees and it securely attaches the car. Really cool, as I have a lot of cars I like to display without the bases so have a lot of tiny screws laying around that I'll probably lose.
EDIT:
Bit the bullet and got a 1/64 Schuco. Look forward to that sometime next week maybe.
I collect 1:87! Glad you posted it really makes me sad that this scale is largely ignored and all the latest castings are now coming to 1:64, even 1:43 has suffered. There are only like 3 1:87 manufactures left and they are only around to provide for the model railway HO scale crowd. The detail for their size is amazing.
All my Schuco's have that metal locking tab to secure the base and yes it's a great feature and very secure.
These aren't Pop Culture though. They are just those randomly themed $1 cars they throw out seemingly every month like the Camo series, Easter, James Bond, etc, etc. It's the only Pop Culture series I may actually be interested in, too. Boooo, Mattel. Boooo.
'Oxford' is one of them, nowhere near as nice a range as 'Schuco' but still some decent models, new and old. What other 1:87 manufacturers are left?
Explains the mainline wheels. Thanks for the clarification. 👍These aren't Pop Culture though. They are just those randomly themed $1 cars they throw out seemingly every month like the Camo series, Easter, James Bond, etc, etc.
My cubicle display car of the week! Finally found the Torino at a Target when I went to get a $25 Xbox card.
