Also, if you're wondering why the Tokyo police had an over-the-top vehicle like the President in their fleet, the website says it was used for high-speed enforcement.

This is a weird place for a dump bin.

This was at a Meijer.

Matte, matte Shinji-san! *waves hands around in an attempt to cool a6 down* We should be understanding the needs of those who drink decaf coffee. Like yours truly, for example; my nerve system is rather sensitive and can't really take even more energy, especially caffeine energy...
Of course. Sorry, really passionate joke.
Now I can see why you wanted a scale model of this car so badly, Shinji-san.
I was just talking about this with Spacegoat yesterday. I'm actually a Toyota Century guy. However, due to TLV going with the current gen car instead of the iconic original, I guess I'm more excited about the Nissan President casting this time around(ie old school).

I have the "hire"(town car vers), patrol car & the black one on preorder.

I saw that, but I didn't buy that at all. I went on their site, because I had never even heard of President patrol car before. I suspect that those cars were reserved for the elites & VIPs, but that's just me.
Hey guys in case you want to ensure you get a UCC x Mercedes set, Japan Booster has them for presale:

http://www.lamleygroup.com/2016/04/the-ucc-x-mercedes-set-is-now-available.html

Been awhile, I know, but I thought you guys might be into these.
Great news on Japan Booster store. Thank you!

Don't worry, I did get that you were (somewhat) joking, it was the passionate bit that threw mw for a loop. Can you blame me?

Well you never know, Tomica could release an older Century casting one day... It's not like the car changed all that much throughout the years design-wise, but if they see that there's demand for it, who knows?

I have the "hire"(town car vers), patrol car & the black one on preorder.

And the gold one? If you're buying 99.9% of all TLV Presi castings, you may as well give the 0,1% a chance too... :dopey:

I know that you speaking the truth, but somehow I can't see how in the heck a President counts as a high-speed enforcement car... It's hardly a lightweight car, much less a powerful one.

It's all relative. You have to put yourself back in that time. A V8 sedan would would be in another league compared to the majority of 1965 Japanese traffic.

I saw this 1/18 Nissan GT-R(PDF) on the Tomytec page & was going "I don't collecct 1/18.... :indiff:", then I saw the price. Nearly equivalent of $400.

If you switched to.... Almost did it again, sorry. j/k :P

IMO, modern regulations & features makes such car dull. The original:

I sure hope they make this happen before too long. *Little known fact: They were exported to California.

When I saw the current gen come up, at least for me, it was a head scratcher. My guess is that TLV crew rode in one, as they've said in the past that they do weigh in their personal sentiments into nominating new castings.

Black: In, because it's the color people normally associate with VIP cars in Japan.

Hire: In, because I have soft spot for these town car services driving around town, though one's I've seen were almost always black.

Police: In, because...... It's so damn cool looking.

Brown: Out.... Unnatural.

Valid point. I have come to my conclusion, but I did consider this.
For me, after the original(orange) & K-Day(blue), it's been downhill with the exception of the Walmart exclusive(white w;/stripes).

Unless you were contesting the rule of a Hakosuka, or a Savanna RX car in a windier road... But I can see what you mean, V8 engines were not a common sight in mid-1960's Japanese car traffic. Plus, most civilian cars lacked sheer top speed, even with efficient sporty engines.

If you switched to.... Almost did it again, sorry. j/k :P

Oh you. That caffeine is affecting your judgement, clearly... :sly:

Well your point is valid, but you have to admit that the Century's design stood the test of time rather well, for a car that had to comply with so many different safety and pollution laws. The old Century oozes charisma and uniqueness at the same time, but the newer cars still stand out in their own way. Even if they have been modernized, they still look "old" (per say) and catch everyone's eye either in pictures or live color...

Besides, I still bet someone at Tomica is chomping at the bit to create a vintage Century casting. Surely someone there has seen one in the metal!

Oh well, guess you prefer the "safer" color choices, instead of the mad ones. Still, three out of four ain't bad, especially for a new casting. Looking forward to your blog posts on all those Presidents, taisho... :sly:

Right, but I would guess no departments in the sticks had a President at their disposal like the Tokyo force apparently did.

EDIT:

Apparently the TLV car is based on one that was famous for being on the cover of a childrens' book. The license plates are identical.
In addition, the car apparently was a well-known high-speed enforcer, and was even rumored to use engines tuned by stock car racers.

I just saw your pics, so I decided to google it myself? First try, I hit a page with same exact pictures.

This blogger though, he said that he had seen such thing as the Nissan President from the children's book he read as a child, but he only suggests that it seems to be true that these cars were used for high speed enforcement? He also mentions that in Atsugi, department there ran not only Nissan President, but also Toyota Century there. Were these cars in the high speed unit? I may need to google this a bit more. :D

P.S. Maybe it is the same page you found, because he also talks about it's motor being used in stock car races. It's the six-cylinder though, not the V8. I have no idea if the patrol cars were equipped with the 6 or the 8 in Tokyo. We've learned little bit about this car since the announcement. :D

@GroupB @Niku Driver HC I googled some more, but they are all blogs! I do see where people are claiming that the President patrol car came around the time Japan was adopting highway travel for the first time, and how most domestic cars were not equipped for this type of driving day in/day out. I guess it does make sense as a stopgap fix.
I was looking at this car little bit yesterday(it's my next blog post), roof seems low to me? I wish it had projector headlights too, but that's just me. I like it other than the roof line.

Funny story about how I acquired those today. I was at my local Walmart last night and saw some new things (H case) so I picked up the GT350R, '15 F-150, Honda CRX and Porsche 356. I also saw the new NSX but thought I had bought it already so I left it behind. When I got home I realized I didn't actually have it, so after I ran some errands in Phoenix this morning I went back to my store to get it. Today they had put some more cars out (F case) and I only saw 3 of the Integras. Best part is that 2 of them were the OH5 wheels, and 1 of them had the MC5's. If I hadn't gone back to get the NSX I would have missed them...

That is lucky. 👍

Sounds like you are getting back into this thing though. Are you?

No I'm just keeping an eye out for the Japan Historics. Been lightly collecting a few cars that are easy to get a hold of. And mainlines are cheap, a handful of them a month is no big deal.

A fine example of good researching, good job Shinji-san. Couldn't do better myself, really. :)👍 When put in that context, it makes sense for such a luxurious car to be used in high-speed enforcement, because there was no best replacement at the time for that role. As you said, it makes thorough sense.

Clearly. Touche. :P

See? Such clarity is the power of decaff users! :P

I just think the new car is bland. That's just me though.

I do beg to differ; even if the design has been dumbed down over the years, there aren't many cars in the world that look like the Century. It's as if the car is stuck in this strange time limbo, where it's not old enough to be seen as a past glory, but it's also not new enough to be perceived as a modern design. Maybe that's what makes the car bland in your eyes, but I can't help but to think otherwise... Again, matter of preference

I'm sure it's come up before.

Perhaps. Then we should ask Spacegoat to slip in a friendly word or something, no? Unless you want to do that yourself, Shinji-san... :sly:

 Yeah, three's more than plenty for me!

Says the man who owns six TLV Super Silhouette cars, of course. :sly:

In my search for the Castrol Escort, I got a white with blue one on a long card, which I don't see often over here.

Is this from an older case than the red one? If so, it gives me hope I'll find one without resorting to ebay.

Yea, the white one was before the Castrol one. I don't know how many cases before it was, but it feels like it's been a decent amount. So the Castrol one should show eventually.

And I can't believe I helped someone with an Arsenal avatar..........
