One last note on the whole 2+2 deal. I remember hearing years ago that in the Japanese home market, 2-seaters weren’t really seen as socially acceptable, hence the JDM RX-7 had a back seat and the ungainly 2by2 Z outsold the standard Z by a wide margin.

Yep, those GL Z's are awful. I don't know what's worse, the shrunken glass house, or the gaping wheel wells.
In addition to the longer wheelbase, the extra headroom needed for a rear seat required a change in the roofline that was obvious. The 2+2 looked completely different in the S130 generation (280ZX) as well, but for the later Z31 & Z32, a trained eye was required to spot the differences.
If anything, I think it's fairly easy to spot the differences with the Z31 & Z32. I don't think it takes a trained eye. The Z31 shares a similar trait with the 260 2by2, in that you can see the difference just by the roofline and shape of the rear quarter glass. Where-as the Z32 does a slightly better job in that regard, by being slightly disguised due to the single curved nature of the roofline. However, just one glance of the gap between the door shutline and rear wheel arch, tells you without a doubt that you're looking at an extended wheelbase 2by2.

M2 did this real good.

Darn near perfect amirite.

Did a google for "tomica 240z" and found this photo on pinterest. Love those Tomica's. The metallic finish is great. That photographer took a nice photo.

Edit: Photo!

I thought maybe my smartphone couldn't load the pic earlier. On a more serious note, we should go rob this guy. Those are some really nice Tomica Datsuns. :D

About what I expected.

Looks worse in close up like that than it does in person. Thankfully there doesn't seem to be any other issues with it, that I can tell anyway.

These two on the other hand, absolutely no complaints about them whatsoever. :embarrassed:

Nissan Atlas Safety Loader and Dream Tomica Circuit Wolf Lotus Europa.

And finally a non TLV purchase. Because the other day someone at Big W finally decided to put some decent Matchbox stock on the pegs again.

I just want the Tomica 240z. You can take everything else that guy has. But we need to be careful . That guy might have loads of weapons.

Wow. Also, rear cowl's leaving bit of gap there. One of mine was like that until I played with it for bit, then it seemed to have settled down. Rear wing is hugely disappointing for the price.. Rest of the haul looks amazing. Those Matchboxes are you kidding me!!

Those RLC 240Zs weren't worth that much, considering. Bluebirds were instantly $100+, but 240Zs I think were about half that, or less. I think they'll make a good investment piece! ;):D

Loads is right! :D

Looking at this image, it seems as though the slight issue is with the way the engine cover sits on the chassis, rather than the wing being bent/twisted. The reason I say this is because there seems to be a difference between the amount of visible rear tyre. If it is the engine cover that's slightly off, it could easily be caused by something as simple as a difference in paint thickness. That's the problem when it comes to highly detailed cars with lift off panels or opening doors, hoods, trunks etc, at such a small scale. Every 0.1 mm counts when it comes to paint thickness and can affect the end product.

Regardless of all the problems that are apparent with some of the TLV 787's, I wish I had the disposable funds to be able to justify getting one myself. It really wouldn't bother me too much if there were some issues with it because it's such an awesome! model anyway. Jelly of you all. Damn you all. *shakes fist*

Awesome MB finds BTW @Spacegoat 👍 And :drool: for the Loader and Mazda 787B. 👍

[EDIT] Out of interest, is the wing attached to the diffuser and is the diffuser part of the chassis or a separate piece?

You might be right there actually...

Well, my 787b arrived and it does indeed have a crooked wing. Now I wonder if there's a way to fix it...

Pictures later.

The wing is not attached to the diffuser, but is part of the engine, which is obviously also plastic. Not sure where the entire thing connects to the base.
The diffuser is part of the chassis.

Thanks for explaining. 👍

Judging by your diecast customising and 1/24 plastic model building skills, you'll easily have it fixed. If it were mine and I couldn't live with it the way it is, I'd be tempted to add some heat into the mix. Either with some carefully administered direct flame and hand manipulation. Or making some kind of corrective jig and submerging the offending part, (held in correct position by the jig) into a saucepan of near boiling water. Not sure how the paint work would stand up to that though. Or simply try bending the part in the opposite direction of the kink.

If any of you guys try this, please don't blame me when it goes all to 🤬.

*secretly hopes that everybody does try it and burn their hands and melt their gorgeous looking TLV Mazda's... Why? cos I'm jelly.*

For those who may not remember, I snapped off the wings off both my 787Bs just so I could glue it back on at the correct angle.

Sounds like you fall into the “trained eye” category to me
I’ve found that while the Z31 & Z32 have visible differences, you have to be looking for them to notice. The average person never realizes there are two different versions of the same car, whereas with the S30 and S130, people know for sure that something’s off, even if they don’t understand it.

Wow! did you?

Actually, this does not surprise me in the slightest... As everybody knows you're a diecast maverick, that laughs in the face of our deepest fears. :D:tup:

Hmmm.. okay*. You indeed might have a point there. 👍

510 rally and that Junior, thought it was pretty lucky to find those two. I haven't looked at MBX in ages either because no one bothers up date the stock around here.

Jeez, you got a good eye there Doc (pun intended lol). Might not look it in the pics but the engine cover actually does fit perfectly (thank god), just that I kept knocking it every time I moved it around for pictures. The wing is definitely crooked because the left side support for the wing is slightly off compared to the right. But it's probably not as crooked as that picture suggests.

Sucks but I can live with it.
@Spacegoat Red looks cool!

Really does. Those 86's are sweet too. 👍
Storage find!

Sigh... I want to go back in time and slap myself in the face for not taking care of these.

Missing the R34 otherwise you'd have the whole set. Incredible find though.👍

Got some M2 diecast today for the first time in a long time. :D

I also bought some tackle boxes for Hitch and Tow sets but go figure they ended up being too small. Now I'm hoping I can use them for other cars or other stuff.

I simply do not get tired of this portrait.👍
Excuse me while I go wheelswap one of my Beads with Majorette wheels!
Maybe use the 1/18 ignition wheels & that would really impress us.

Got lucky with $uper TH I PM'd you about, also miraculously, the Yellow Submarine, but as far as Matchbox goes, I've had very little to no luck.... until today(Everything, including $TH came from the same local dollar store).

New & old VW Golf, I finally was able to pick them up today. Same with gray Miata. Matchbox single mainlines feels extinct around here sometimes, too. I will dance around naked outside if I actually find the Datsuns you found.

I was looking at the same 1/64 M2 there during lunch today. I got this instead:

boy..

you're crazier than I am.

Cross-breeding different-scaled cars?

God knows how many car mod commandments you just broke with such a heinous suggestion.

They call me crazy..... Of all people, I thought you'd understand me. You were the chosen one!! #AnakinTruong

The old Golf. 👍
I wish that one was regular stock height.
What's the big deal about those two anyway? There was at least another of each on the pegs, that I left behind. :P
JDM Matchboxes are impossible find around here. :(
I was looking at that Cougar too. Next time. :mischievous:
I had to choose between this & the GT350. Not bad cars for$4.

They didn't have the GT350 where I was. And I can agree with that. They're not that too much of a step down from the ones with the full display cases. Speaking of which, there were 20 of them on the shelf and all were some variation of a Volkswagen bus or truck.
