Probably cause they were afraid of breaking them? :dopey:
They could've afforded to be careful with what they charged for these cars($$$).
Would have been nice to have that little extra bit of detail but, meh. As I said I'm not bothered too much about stuff like that.
They also shorted us on the bare/silver metal strip on the rear wing:

Sorry, not the best picture. You can see the metal strip on the 1/18 better, little guy is the Kyosho 1/64 & you could barely make it out, but the strip is there(painted I'm sure). TLV skipped that detail completely. Kyosho had every right to have done the same, but they actually made it happen on a $5 blind box minicar. Bravo to Kyosho. 👍👍

they really need to control their quality a lot more, especially the messy paint.
That's bad. I have paint issue with one of the hot wheels I really like. She's a keeper anyway, and from my experience, it's rare for Hot Wheels, but when it does happen, bummer:

I received mine last week & I couldn't believe the tampo quality & placement on those. If we saw more of this on other mainline hot wheels, I'd be a big fan....

Picked up my first Hot Wheels in a long while: Modern Classics Porsche 964. I'm a sucker for Porsches.
I had to google that. That's how much I know or care about Porsches. But this is what I saw on Google & I had to go change.

Tomica's biggest failing, for sure. So many cool castings but let down by the wheels. Their i8 is the best at this scale and it would be even better on modern rims.

Beautiful

The 2017 Acura NSX also suffers from small wheels, the casting is awesome but dear lord those wheels.

And they made it 3 times too wide judging from your 1/18.
Though Tomica probably could've made a thinner strip, since we know they can apply some extremely detailed tampos. I wonder why they didn't.

The only issue I have (apart from the wheels, of course) with the AMG GT R is that the rear wing is too big.

It should look like this:

They could have made the wing plane narrower and the end plates smaller.

Meanwhile, Tarmac almost did it right. Almost:

I don't mind getting one since they're plain bodies anyway.

Here some of my purchases from earlier this month I haven't posted yet. Went to a parade and someone was selling Hot Wheels 2 for $1, so I chipped in bought a few! :D
'65 Mustang Convertible. Though I have this Treasure Hunt in far better shape already, I didn't want to leave it behind, so I grabbed it. It's only a little beat up.

Blown Camaro. I got this one because I don't even have one with the engine, all mine are without it. It's dirty and scuffed up, but I plan on cleaning it up a bit soon as well as crafting new axles for it, touching up the engine and maybe the wheels too.
image.jpeg
'55 Chevy. This one is not so bad condition wise, only thing wrong with it besides the tampos is the rear axle is warped and the rear wheels don't roll as a result. Going to fix that later on.
image.jpeg
Auburn 852. This one is sadly is missing a headlight, but other than that, it's in great shape otherwise.
image.jpeg
Peterbilt Dump Truck. Tempted to do something with it and maybe substitute the missing dump bed for something else.
image.jpeg
Dairy Delivery. My dad had wanted this particular one for years now, so I got it for him.

I'd swap the wheels. It looks too small

It's almost like they have this Tomica platform, and they place whatever body on top of it. Tomica platform, Toyota body, Mercedes body, etc.

Really? Honestly, it looks fine to me.

I recently picked some of these up and others came from a friend. I got the Super Tooned because I had that very same one when I was a kid and played with it religiously. Needless to say it was one of my top favorites and it's cool to have it again, this time to keep it in the collection.

Either that or make it into a regular truck? Idk. Reckon repurposing it would be neat.
Indeed. I do remember someone did this in the customizing thread once. Truthfully I only recently started thinking about it, so I am not too sure what I will do with all that extra space yet. I do plan on leaving the paint because frankly I kind of like it and I don't want to take it off because its really not all that bad.

The Super Tuned is also one me and my brother grew up with, we still several from our childhoods, some of which I think are still in great shape. Still a cool casting! Deora II is also another one for me. I mainly grew up with the silver version, but I did get that blue one from a car show at Lowes Motor Speedway back in 2006. I always loved the blue, shame you never seen that color used much. Ironically I seen in it in my collection just recently and 11 years later, I still cannot get over that color! :dopey:

I get what you are saying but we can't really judge the TLV's inconsistencies, until you get a 1/24 and 1/43 787b. We have to be really thorough about this, Shinji! It'll pay off. :P

Bottom image is a very stretched 1/64 kyosho wing, top is the 1/18. Silver strip on the 1/64 is about 2x the width it should be.

I'll look at it tonight, but just with naked eye, Kyosho looks right. In comparison, TLV wing looks bare. *shrug*

I love the blue on the Deora too. It helps that it has no tampos on the body for me. Other than this blue one I have the one below and that's it.

Agreed. Sometimes castings look better without them and this Deora II is no exception! Only thing i'd probably change is the wheels because I am not a huge fan of PR5's.

Ah yes, that's another personal favorite Deora II for me. I can remember buying it years ago from a man who used to sell them every year at our local fall festival before he died. However, I think mine had a american flag pattern on the surfboards that really awesome. It was and still is a good one and so was every other casting in that series.

Here is another personal favorite Deora II I own. It came from a Hot Wheels 100% set I got about 2 years ago. It's color does remind of the blue one I bought at the car show in Lowes Motor Speedway back in 2006, but a bit less "metallic". Easily the best one I own.

Okay, here's couple of photos I was able to find from similar angles. First from 1/64 Kyosho Minicar & second from 1/18 AUTOart(thank you Jarrod for twisting my arm to buy it, I love it):

Yeah, I guess wider considering scale, but it looks really good for 1/64, at least to me. Again, even the price differences are apples to oranges since Kyoshos were blind boxes, but $5 to $70+ MSRP difference. TLV got cheap, lazy, or both on this one. My opinion.

Sweet livery. Looks almost chrome. For second, it was super chromes or something.

That third pic.👍

100%/Black Box era had some really neat cars. I have few new one's I've been really wanting to post on my blog. These era Hot Wheels aren't cheap, but they don't command stupid money like the RLC cars, Chevy Gassers, or Bluebird, so I can still pick up some here & there on eBay. They always have some that slips through the cracks.
Great little car. This is in my top 10.
Wow. So neat. 👍👍
I thought it already was.
I'm thinking it might become a novel pretty soon....
