I know I know. We've all been over that $1 to $30 topic so many times here.
For me, 1/64s (regardless of brand and quality) aren't cutting it anymore after all the exposure to 1/18s I've been going through.

It's a whole different story for you guys though; space, costs, etc...Keep doing what you're doing. I'll be phasing myself outta here eventually.

Those look so good, unlike this guy:

The lack of definition on the top edge of the lamps gave me the impression of a face without eyebrows.

*shrugs* I think I will be fully closing my doors on Hot Wheels/Matchbox now.
I think it's fine. The proportion is also a lot better than the old one. As for details, just wait for the Fast and Furious series. There will be a black, fully detailed R32.

Or you could just custom it just a bit.

I understand the limitation. I'm not trying to make you guys feel like this hobby sucks. It was a blast hunting down things and displaying a whole wall of them. CM's, Carisma, Kyosho and Minichamps were excellent brands before I got exposure to bigger cars. Now I find myself appreciating details and higher levels of craftsmanship more; the lines on a rotor, individual rivets, chrome that actually looks like chrome, the diffused surfaces of tail lights. Ignition released a RX-3 Savanna recently. It is a thing of beauty, and I wasn't even crazy about RX-3s to begin with. I'll be posting photos soon.

Please don't.
It's already been happening, sir. I can't be your Kyosho info source any longer. Kyosho's fault.

I've got big cars, and anime figurines to accommodate space for. Once I spend some more time researching current numbers, I'll be listing stuff for sale.

Did we ever figure out why Kyosho's getting away from their minicars @AOS- ? I think lot of collectors considered them the benchmarks of 1/64 in many ways. TLVs were doing their JDM things & Hot Wheels are different animal altogether. Kyosho lacked American cars, but we already had GreenLight, etc. for that.

To be fair to HW/MB, a casting designed and manufactured to the lowest cost possible to be able to be sold at One United States Dollar, shouldn’t be compared to an $8 one.
I do agree on the lack of gap(or just line in this case) separating the headlamps/hood. That's just weird. Not Matchbox Hakosuka weird, but still IMO takes away quite a bit from the overall look. Otherwise looks like million bucks.

I don't know. I'd wager that blind boxes was not a thing for people anymore. The fact stores buy up boxes, take them apart, identify each one, and sell them according to second-market price kind of defeated the gacha system.

As I'm thinking out loud, I have doubts that it costs $10 to produce a single item, so sellers selling of the unpopular items for under said amount may not be a big marginal loss. But at the same time, I also suspect people slowly did not want to wager $10 at a chance of getting something unwanted.

That's why they moved to that A, B, C, D prize ranking hierarchy, no?

Good point. I never paid mind to how they were originally sold, in Japan, so I didn't even take any of that into consideration.

I was of the impression blind box system still worked for Kyosho, but I have no idea how they actually fared in the Japanese market. As you said, it's possible that prize system wasn't for fun, but in attempt to repair a underperforming sales ploy. Hmmm.......

Speaking of Kyosho, i'm trying to get one in 64 scale but i don't know which one to buy. Can you recommend me on something?

HW seems to leaning towards MB's smoother approach, perhaps another cost saving method if the dies are less detailed. Just look at the MB 10th gen Civic that has hardly any definition at all.

Could be worse though. Just check out the latest crop from Siku. I used to collect them as a kid as they used to make a good range of 'normal' cars (Ford Mondeo, Citroen Xantia, Audi A4, Opel Omega etc) which as a kid that preferred realistic play situations were perfect compared to the more sports car orientated alternatives.

They used to be super crisp but now they look like those generic cars you buy from Poundland! Just check out the difference in these two E Class castings:

I hate the new wheel design they use. Even worse than the 90s/early 2000s design from your first pictures.

Yes, what was worse was their mid-00's approach with fixed axles meaning the wheels couldn't turn independently. Completely ruined any form of play as you could only move the cars back and forth.

Been practicing product photography so thought this would be a good subject.

Yes! I'm glad someone else has thought it too; modern Siku are absolute junk. I had all three of those 90s ones and many others and it's like putting Tomica mainline against a Hot Wheels licensed mainline.

Let me know when you've listed the cars. I'd be interested in buying some of your 1:64's, even if postage is rather expensive:lol:

Yes. The answer is to wait until I put up some of my stuff. It will honestly take quite some time, as I still have an attachment to the K'nex shelf I built. But I promise you I will be pulling more than a handful Kyoshos off that shelf.

The other option is to browse my blog in the diecast section to find something that catches your attention.

I'll likely post everything in a single Kijiji-ad to make things easier to manage on my end.

I've been trying to mimic his work to better understand his process, and I'm slowly getting closer to it each time. I do know that I need to get deploying a diffuser to pull off what he does. If you use facebook, I'd follow his page: https://www.facebook.com/impressivecars/

Always buy in bulk I say!

Look on the bright side: these things don't weigh a whole lot. You can quite a bit before we hit that magical 1kg threshold.

Yeah I figured that I'd buy several cars off you instead of just one. If that was the case, the postage would probably cost more than the car...

Last time I bought stuff off @AOS- shipping honestly wasn't even that unreasonable.

I'll probably only buy about three anyway; well and truly below 1 KG!

And whats more confusing is that Siku's farm equipment, trucks, diggers, emergency vehicles, etc (basically anything in their 1:87 range) is excellently detailed and realistic... coming from the same company! Their 1:64 cars aren't exactly cheap so why they are so appalling is beyond me, I guess they wanted them to be full on toys.
