i repeat

Kamus your obviously a hater.
I'm sorry your glass is half empty but the demo is sick.

I think you should just go play your precious Race 07 and stop trying to convince everyone on a GT5 fansite forum that the demo is sub-par. Its not going to happen.

P.S. Race 07 SUCKS!!!! hahahahaha:):sly:

tre
Since most non-Japanese are rather poor when it comes to reading Japanese perhaps you could come up with a translation that guides you thru how to get Professional physics?

When you select the "Race" option on the main menu, go to the second option presented. Choose the bottom option in the drop-down. Voila, professional physics.

I'm very surprised people are angry at me towards my comments to the point of considering me a flamer that should be ignored.
But again, watever. if that's what i get for telling it like it is, so be it. Suit yourself.

The demo is so awesome, the game lives up to the hype, but theres a few problems for me:

1. The image isn't the way it looks in the screenshots. I'm playing with 1080p, HDMI, on a 32inch lcd hd TV. The edges of the cars have an ugly white crap thing around it, really distracting and takes away from the beauty of the cars. Not sure how to fix this, but if you can help, please do.

2. The hand animations, no animation for shifting, or hand-over-hand action (in the demo),

3. Scenery around the tracks doesn't look too great if you ask me.

Please help with the graphics if anyone can, god damn, its killing me. The stupid white crap makes me mad.

My review of the demo after a few hours,

The Good

- Cars are very detailed, even the little red defrost wires on the rear windshield are visible

- The Cockpit view is very detailed. You have a nice wide view of the road, there is NO reason why ANYONE should race outside the cockpit in GT5. I've played alot of racing games and this cockpit view is the best I've seen. You can see the apex of turns, which most cockpit views in other racing games don't let you see.

There are little effects in the cockpit too, driving over a rumble strip shakes you, braking hard throws you forward etc. The camera reflects the G-forces of the car, so you aren't just sitting staticly.

- AI is vastly improved over GT4, you can run side by side with them around the entire track and they will give you plenty of room. They give you room when you outbrake them too, but don't expect to be able to dive bomb them, that doesn't work in real life and it don't work here.

The AI is actually fun to watch. One car tried a 3-wide pass on the backstretch of Suzuka but lifted at the last second going into the turn to avoid a 3-wide crash. They're aggressive but smart.

The AI still has a way to go before it gets where it needs to be, though. They still have a tough time missing a parked car on the track and they will give you a pretty good shot if you slow down too fast far in front of them instead of just avoiding you.

Overall the AI is respectable for the first time in the GT series.

- I'm not a physics expert, if the car turns when I tell it to then that's good enough for me, but others have said weight transfer etc etc have been improved. It seems like it. Donuts are possible now. That's a major step forward

- The sound is vastly improved over GT4. It may not be the best sounding game in the world but they have improved the sound over GT4 dramaticly. Big V8s have the rumble now. The Ferrari has that exotic sound. The Audi R8 has it's unique sound (I say the R8 sounds about 70% as good as the trailer)

The cars that are suppose to sound great, sound great. As Digital-Nitrate said the sound effects are not overdone like some other racing games. Remember these are road cars, not racecars.

The 150-225 HP cars sound like they do in real life. Bland. That's not poor sound that's realistic sound. Rest assured, anyone claiming the sound is terrible is doing so because the sound doesn't match GTR or some other favorite game of their's.

I wish I had a way to record the game and post the sounds of the cars on youtube, the Acura NSX has it's own tone, the Viper has it's own, all the cars sound unique in their own way.

- With 16 cars on track there is a battle going on somewhere all the time.

The Bad

- The shadows range from clean to VERY jaggy at times. Some garage shots of the cars have extreme jaggies present. Nasty stuff

- The Suzuka track looked oddly 'flat' and Daytona looks bland. Daytona looks ultra smooth when the actual track is very bumpy. The racing surface looks nothing like the real thing. I'm being honest.

- The sense of speed is 'meh', especially in the preview of the Daytona track where they HAD to be averaging 180mph, just slightly slower then the stock cars but they looked nowhere near as fast as NASCAR. And why was the Dodge viper in the back of the field at Daytona?

- When the cars drive by sometimes the only thing you hear is the wind and not the engines

- The new camera angles in the replay are 'meh'. The camera angles don't look quite like TV anymore. There is far too much zooming in on the cars and the cameras are placed in too many unrealistic areas.

Daytona is a fast track, but looks slow many times in the replay because of bad camera placement or is the sense of speed really that bad?

- In the cockpit view the driver doesn't shuffle the wheel like you've seen in earlier videos. Instead the drivers hands never leave the wheel and the rotation limit seems to be a pitiful 100 degrees

- Collision physics are similiar to GT4, but cars spin out easier, though

- Overall the graphics look 'early'

Final Thoughts

Most if not all of the 'BAD I listed is due mostly to the fact GT5 is still a good 12+ months from release. Alot of the 'bad' can be fixed with more time and work on the game. Play this demo to see the definition of an incomplete game. But seeing how far they've came in just a couple of months I have no doubt PD will fix alot of the problems present in this demo.

Yes that is part of it but when he says things like "i tell like it is" he shows his arrogance as if he is the judge and jury of what this demo is. Everyone has their own take on it. Everyone here will more than likely give it a thumbs up and he feels he knows more about gt and racing sims in general to post his own lengthy review and then quote other peoples review and tell them how or why they are wrong. This forum is not the place for that. The only criticism on this site needs to be constructive. In a nutshell your right on the money but I just wanted to elaborate because its late and im bored.

I'm not trying to convince anyone that the demo is subpar.. i think it's great, and i'm going to be playing it untill i can buy GT5:P from the japanese store with gamecards since they don't take american CC's.

If you've read anything i've posted before. you'll know that i've said numerous times, that i don't think there's any other company that can match the budget PD has for their simulator.
I do enjoy playing Race 07 too thankyou very much, however. i enjoy GT like games more because they include production cars. Race 07 doesn't. and many of the PC sims don't either.

That's a dealbreaker for me, i enjoy playing production cars a lot more than the race cars for some reason.. i guess i'm a big Best motoring fan in evry sense of you can be.

You remind me of the people that say "if you don't agree with this, get the hell out of america!"

Obviously you don't realize i'm probably more invested in this sim than you'll ever be.
(but hey, if you got more than 1k laps in Nurburgring in GT4 then we're on par.)

Most of the people that dislike my critiques have a fanboi feel to them.
Don't prove me right and post something that will make you fall into that category.

we dont care for these "facts" you speak of. either start warming Yamauchi's nether-regions like everyone else or you'll be sent to the dungeon.

- The shadows range from clean to VERY jaggy at times. Some garage shots of the cars have extreme jaggies present. Nasty stuff

Well, this jaggies you speak off are simply because the shadows are very low resolution, this could've been helped a lot if the game was made to run in 720p native instead of 1080p.
And who knows, with all that extra bandwidth we might've even seen shadows in all cars as oposed to just the one you're driving.
the in cockpit shadows look specially bad in some areas where the sun is hiting the dashboard a certain way.

As jagged as they look, they are still real shadows and look far better than fake ones used in previous GT games.

I'm still in awe with the level of detail of the cars, specially considering there's 16 of them. O_O

You mean YOU don't care?

I have no problems with that, i'm sure there's people that don't mind my comments one bit, and i've been told so numerous times. get used to me or just start ignoring me whenever you see a thread that has my name on it.
I could care less.
Peace.

So is the U.S. ever going to get an English version of this? I mean I understand how the demo is supposed to coincide with the Tokyo Motor show, but still, I wish I could read everything.

My short take:

Eye Candy:
- As expected looks good. Some minor glitches of cockpit lighting abruptly changes when car going for lighted areas to shadow areas during replay.
- some shadow and light artifacts.
- cockpit view make the game feel more like a sim.
- The game drop frames in certain situations.
- no shaky cam in cockpit view.

Surface/texture:
- Track way to clean and way too smooth, That totally took the realism away.

Control:
- Not sure why people say the G25 doesn't work. It works for me, its just that the clutch doesn't do anything, the H-Shift works, I can still heel-toe down shift like in RFactor.
- If you have a 900 degree steering, you can use the 900deg unlock trick to enable. Otherwise the steering will be unrealistically over sensitive.
- car physics in general had improved.
- FFB needs major work.

AI:
- Sigh....Still sucks donkey balls even at pro level. I am pretty sure the AI are modeled after 80 grandmas, they don't do anything, they literally will let you pass. Plus they are super slow, you can literally weave through them without hitting anyone (and obviously not cutting any corners) and get P1 before the hairpin on lap 1.

Your obviously a god of GT. so sorry master. I could never play gt as much as you. I could only hope to gain a fraction of the knowledge you possess.

If you want to call me out like some noob go to gt.hobby-site.com

Well, there's translations allready somewhere in the forums at least for some of the menus, for the wheel i've been told it's exactly the same as in GT HD so you can customize that by using the GTHD demo as reference, or just finding that post i'm telling you about.

those translations are gonna come in handy if you, like many other people plan to get the japanese version of GT5:P
Which by the way, you can get if you buy gamecards from a store like NCSX, which i think offers that service.

Why would i add someone with such a poor attitude to my friend list?

Thanks, but i'll pass.
I never said i'm a "god" at this game, i said i'm a fan that's heavly invested in this sim.
Because, like i said.. i don't think a casual gamer would run 1000+ laps in nurburgring in GT4.

Rocket Punch
- no shaky cam in cockpit view.
The incockpit cam moves to simulate braking and other things, but I'm hoping you don't want the cockpit to shake as much as rFactor :nervous:

rFactor cockpit shake example:

Rocket Punch
Surface/texture:
- Track way to clean and way too smooth, That totally took the realism away.

I agree with this 100%. Hopefully with time they can increase the realism of this. I think we'll all agree the Mulsanne straight in GT4 wouldn't be the same if it was super smooth like this demo's Suzuka track and the video preview of Daytona. Hopefully PD will fix this.

Rocket Punch

Well if they tried to block you or cut you off people will then be claiming the AI is stupid. Also I wouldn't use this demo as an indicator to how tough the competition will be in GT5, I think it's obvious they made it easy so it would be more user friendly. You don't want to scare away potential customers by making the demo ultra hard

Yeah, the AI still could use lots of work.
But honestly, if PD delivers an online career mode or some ladder system for unlocking cars or gaining money, who would ever use AI anymore? :P

The physics are better than in GT4, they just seem to be based on the same fundamentals, which like i said is the problem.
Throtle control during corners doesn't seem to be as important as it should be.

The tracks in GT5:P remind me of those in GT3, they look very under-detailed compared to the cars, in GT4 this was more balanced IMO, the cars and tracks both looked to be at about the same level of quality.

But, this IS a work in progress. They could change that in the future. (hell, if what it takes to make them look better is to take away 4 cars then so be it.)

Not to say that the tracks look bad, they don't by any means. but look at a track designed for less cars (such as the one in GT HD) and compare it to suzuka and daytona.
The spectators in the GTHD track is full 3d and looks varied, the spectators in Suzuka, fuji speedway and Daytona aren't 3d at all.

(you can check out the other tracks if you just leave the demo alone long enough, they are in the demo, just not playable.)

They still look good enough to me, just very underdetailed compared to the cars which look so detailed.

I dont want to be your friend

Prologue features online racing

Im inviting you to a race

I guess your just one of those dudes thats talks and talks but never acts

What i dont like about you is the vibe you put out like your opinion is better then someone elses. You say "i tell it like it is" Well you dont. you tell it like you think. just like everyone else here.

Adding me to your friend list doesnt make us buddies. Its an rsvp to a race sometime in the future take it like or leave it.

Throtle control during corners doesn't seem to be as important as it should be.

Agreed.

The beemer is the most "fun" car in the demo.
It lets you throw it around the track more (if that makes any sense).

For example, I found it extremely difficult to make the cars fishtail out of a corner. It would appear all cars suffered from understeer. Only once was I able to powerslide out of one of the esses. (with the bmw).

I still think its great, considering its a demo. GT5 is going to be awesome!

I think my favorite car to race in so far is the lancer, but my favorite car to just go out and have fun in is the bmw.

The dinker car (i cant think of the name) is fun too just because you only have to hit brakes like 3 or 4 times through the lap.

I also had fun driving the nissan backwards round the track and ramming the AI head-on down the straight. I dont care how good they make the AI, they're not avoided that!

I wish you could control the camera angle and do an arial view of a 16 car pileup with all the dust, smoke, and 360s the cars do.

Man, there is so much to look foward too.

That reminds me who here believes wheelies are gonna be possible in gt5?

I think we are going to have to wait until the 22nd to get some videos but I'm crossing my fingers something comes out tomorrow

I wonder what the people who run Sony's servers were thinking when they saw all the North American, European and Australian IP addresses that were downloading this thing? *snicker*

Well I read most of the comments here and I agree with a lot of you guys about the demo. Overall I'm happy with demo cause its shows that PD is working from a solid foundation. They still have time to improve the game. This demo is a good way to get a little taste. I love the in cockpit view but the cars kinda feel like they don't accurately represent the weight of the cars when I'm driving in this view. I have a feeling the sound well be get better when GT5P is released in DEC., crossing figures. Oh btw how many of guys are playing with the steering wheel? I think with the steering wheel is the only way I can truly feel the new phyics engine. I've been playing GT with steering wheel ever since GT3 and I can't play with the regular controller anymore. It's hard to judge the phyics with the controller IMO.

Wow, underwealming. Honestly, I think the GT:HD was a more polished demo. [with a better selection of cars] When viewing cars in the new showroom, it continuously 'clipped'. Not just once mind you, the entire time. The first race I attempted to launch, it locked up, and I had to restart the application.

Overall, the physics felt great and the sound was good on the playback as well. I like the midpack start [8/16].

I dunno, I keep trying to remain excited about this latest iteration of GTP, but for a the first time..... I'm not all that motivated to give it a run again.

Ho hum [/Debbie Downer]

Well, it's important to consder that GT HD wasn't just a demo, it was most of what they had made for "GT HD".
Think of it as a freebie that is not a demo of any kind of full game.
it's more of a minigame.

GT5:P is going to be a "preview" beta version of GT5, and the demo we see is just that, a small demo.
The full version of prologue should have enough cars to keep you happy for a bit, but it too is going to be an incomplete work in progress just like the other prologues.
