I'm done.
And I'd like to say that I fully agree with what @
Vagabond wrote a few posts above this one, his past history with GT is very similar to mine, I bought the PS2 to play GT3, then Concept, then GT4: P, then GT4. I also bought the PS3 to play GT5: P, then GT5 than GT6. With GT5 although I had no problems with using the available glitches to earn cash, I bought the DLC packs, their pricing seemed fair mostly because of the tracks (cars were a bit "meh" but that's just me I suppose).
I do think there is a difference between "cars in game" and "DLC packs". I would NEVER try to get DLC packs through glitches. It's something you BUY. But to use the game's or console's tools to unlock and use cars faster so I can drive them ASAP is not a moral (or legal) issue, because I own the license to play those cars without any further money - spending. I am licensed to play them -
Paid for it, mind you - and all I need is to find my way to those goodies using the hardware and software I already bought and paid.
I am not bound to the wishes of the games designers on how I am supposed to earn the credits. If I decide to earn them all by endlessly repeating only one race of the available races, that's my concern and they have zero to say about it. If I decide I will not play the game AT ALL and just wait for B-Spec to arrive so the game plays itself to death until I get all cars in my garage (and then I start playing myself), that's also my concern and they have ZERO to do with it. And if I decide to crash into a wall and go under a bridge to do donuts the software recognizes as laps, earning game-cash quickly, that's again my concern and they have ZERO to do with it.
And this also applies to me deciding to switch between game versions because if I buy a car in game version B and I can sell it in game version A for a more fat paycheck (game money, don't forget).
I repeat, nothing I mentioned is neither a moral issue or a legal issue. And if the T&C pertaining to the use of the console or of the game's software (I know I don't own the software at work in both physical
items, but I know I'm licensed to use it) say I have to use it only like it was intended by their creators, I will dispute the legality of such rule, in court if needed. And I will ask if doing an entire race in first gear is just stupid or if it is also against the T&C because the owners of the software created it with gearboxes featuring other gears, being their intent that we play the game using all of them.
And, quite frankly, it is a joke to say that THIS TIME, because we can buy game-money with real-money, we are robbing Sony. NO, we aren't. I can get to all those cars without using real money for that, can't I? It's not like the Anniversary cars, ones we had to pre-order the game to get, and pay a litle more too if we wanted the whole 25 of them. No ... regular game cars can be gained just by playing the game and using all its features.
So, to use real cash is an OPTION Sony "
gives" me (pun intended).
And while I'm at it, and hoping this is read by some Sony exec with still a bit of common sense and notion of what fair trade is, I have to say that the pricing of the "Game Credits" cards is outrageously insulting to gamers all over the world. I don't know who is responsible for the extorsion attempt, but if there is a moral issue in all this sorry affair, it's
this one.
Pictures speak louder than words.
Keep in mind the game costs about 60 Euros (10 more if Anniversary Edition with nicer metal box and exclusive 25 cars).
Now, suppose I'm an old fart (don't check, I really am) without the time or the skill needed to store millions of credits but I still would love to drive the three classic Ferraris (250 GTO, 330 P4, 250 SWB).
Do the math
Those 3 cars cost a grand total of 47.500.000 Cr.
Now, considering the best seasonal (the M4 one) gives out 50.000 Cr for Gold, if you're good enough for it that'll be about ...
950 runs!
I can't do that, I'm not crazy or addicted enough for it. So ... my option? Buying "game-money" cards with my own money. If I spent 10 euros more to get the 25 Anniversary cars what will it be for these 3 cars? 1 euro each? 5? 10?
No ... again, do the math
250 GTO (20.000.000 Cr.) = 2 platinum cards + 2 gold cards + 1 blue card =
149,95 €
330 P4 (20.000.000 Cr.) = 2 platinum cards + 2 gold cards + 1 blue card =
149,95 €
250 SWB (7.500.000 Cr.) = 1 platinum card + 1 red card =
54,98 €
Total Amont = 354,88 €
Of course I could go totally nuts and buy enough credits for all of them in one go. Let's see, maybe I save something:
47.500.000 Cr. = 6 platinum cards (42M) + 2 gold cards (5M) + 1 red card (500k) =
344,91 €
Oh great! I saved ALMOST 10 euros! Thanks Sony!
There is a moral issue in all this alright. But it has nothing to do with buying cars in version 1.01 of the game to sell them in version 1.00 of the game.
I rest my case.
