Well my friend is getting ready to sell his truck and i was just thinking about maybe buying it. What do yall think bout the price hes asking?

I checked the blue book value and well hes asking a few thousand dollars below the bluebook price. Just wanted to see what yall think about the price.

40,000 miles on it. And it’s a 2001 SVT F-150
Excellent condition

Blue Book value – $28,735 is the price.
My friends asking only for $24,000

Is that pretty good price? :P

You can get a Subee WRX for that much...
Since I'm not a truck fan, I'ed get a WRX.

265HP, more likely, but the torque curve will be much flatter. You won't have to rev as high to leave short black trails on the road. ;)

i don't know how much power a lightning has, or if that even matters to you, but you could get a brand new chevy xtreme for around 20,000 that has a v-6 that pushes 190 horses.

i'd rather have that then the ford, but maybe i'm just a chevy nut.

anyway if you are going that way get the extreme, the black one with silver racing stripes.

and it would be brand new, no miles, plus you'd have warranty (don't know if you have warranty on lighting)

dont listen to a single person here man, not one of these people could afford a lightning let alone have drove one. They are an awesome truc , mine can do 0-60 in about 5 secs.... with a little bit of tuning they are plenty fast.... i still say go for it

They just dont know.
The lightning can do 12's straight out of the box. With a few mods and some head work, the 10's are within grasp.
They handle better than most cars and cars that are supposed to be sporty.
Lightnings have a big following and can rip the doors off of the subaru any day of the week. Heh, it makes the wrx look weak in comparison.
Just my opinion and have seen this with my own eyes.
Get the truck if its the Lightning.

I'd have to see that to believe it. At more than 4,000 lbs., 380HP just doesn't quite seem enough to beat a Corvette.

In a straight line, perhaps, but I'd like to see a SVT, wobbly suspension and all, keep up when the road does more than turn gently left. It's Ford's 'Civic Si.' (*) And yes, at $32,000, I can more than afford it.

(*) For those who just don't get my analogy: Honda makes the Civic, their best-known econobox, as Ford sells good trucks, the F-150 being the best-known. Honda also makes the Civic Si, a faster econobox, as Ford sells the F-150, a fast truck. Keep in mind, the Civic Si is still an econobox.

It's a Ford, man.

Anyhoo, when/if you get the money Noc, I'd go for it.:) New lightnings are badass trucks, and fast as ****. You wouldn't regret it if you got it.;)

Wow, I guess no one here has actually witnessed a slightly modified Lightning.
Heres a link to give you some idea of what a stock Lightning can do.
Modified, they really open up to the track and parts to make it handle are available also, so to say the Lightning is a heavy oaf isnt really giving it much credit.
Most of these stats for performance are conservative and most generally run in the high 13's in near stock configuration.
Fully modified with all the goodies its screams.

Heres another review of the Lightning and think it speaks for itself.
Its just a truck I admit, but a truck to die for, not stock, but for the potential to be a GIANT killer. ;)

"Oh, please", are we talking a 2002 Corvette or the stinkers from the early 80's? Was the person aware you were racing? Was the person a half-decent driver? Was there anyone but yourself around to confirm this miraculous event?

There are a few things that fly in the face of your logic:
1. The Corvette has never weighed more than 3,500 lbs.
2. Over the past 10 years, the Corvette has never had less than 300 HP (base 2002 has 350HP).
3. The current SVT F-150 weighs in at 4,670 lbs. As did the 1999 version.
4. Previous SVT F-150 had only 260HP (345 lb-ft).

This leaves us with:

1999 SVT F-150 power-to-weight: 260/4670 = 0.055
2002 SVT F-150 power-to-weight: 380/4670 = 0.081

1992 Corvette power-to-weight: 300/3223 = 0.093
2002 Corvette power-to-weight: 350/3212 = 0.108

and for good measure:

2002 WRX power-to-weight: 227/3085 = 0.073

This leaves with one remaining factor: the transmission. Both F-150's had 4-speed automatic transmissions with rather tall gearing, which is to be expected in a torquey truck. It is possible that the Corvette had a auto transmission, too, given that the auto is selected about half the time in the non-driver-oriented Yoo-Ess-Ay. However, given the drastic differences in the power-to-weight ratio, and the likely effect leaf springs have on the rear suspension, what you claim holds about as much water as Wonder Bread.

As for the "12-second" 1/4 mile times, I leave you with:

That's just it: it's a truck. Not a sports car, sport-coupe, sport-compact, or even sport-creme. It looks like a truck, goes like a truck, handles like a truck, it must be a truck. So it's got a blown V8. Whoop-de-damned-do. Don't forget it's the Triton V8. Please don't rev it too high. Not that peak power at 4750rpm will have you screaming for an ITR-type redline.

I'm sure the leaf springs and high center of gravity give it great handling on the autocross circuit. Like you said, it's a truck. Let's not get carried away.

But I'll give you that it gets good 60-ft times. ;)

Its still a nice truck that i would LOVE to have. We'll see what happends in a few months.

whatever, i was there, I know that i smoked his ass in his new vette, it wasnt a Z06, but a regular vette and i made it look stupid.... my lightning isnt stock only though, nor is it totally jacked up, but i did beat it

Well, without getting into whether I'd buy an SVT-developed truck or not, you might want to go to Edmunds.com. You can find used (and new) car values price guide taking into account your region, color, milage, condition, etc. etc. It's pretty handy. Find the "Customized Appraisal" button when you find the vehicle.

If you're selling one you can even print out window stickers.

Just for the 'ell of it, I priced a black SVT Lightning in my region (Ohio), with 40K miles, in "outstanding" condition, and without the tonneau cover. I got $22,403 for a private party price. ($24,917 dealer; $20,953 trade in)

Of course you were there. Who else would believe you? ;) ;p

There are still many things to consider. The major of which being the fact that your SVT *wasn't* stock. Another being that this was entirely unofficial. I've let kids "beat" me because they couldn't drive straight, and were heading into my or someone else's lane. The last of which is "Who cares?" It's still a truck. Drive the Westchester, NY parkways and try to keep up with the Civic HX next to you.

In case you couldn't tell, I'm no fan of NASCAR.

Hooligan, your point is made and respectable but you just dont give the Lightning any credit. Just think, a truck can keep up and beat a vette. Wow.
My point has been made as well as yours so the subject is officially closed with me. I dont argue.
Enjoy your cars and trucks ppl. :)

I didn't not give it any credit. I said it was decent in a straight line. That's as far as I went, though. ;) But this is not a stock F-150 keeping up with a Corvette. Aren't there are 10-second CRX's, too....

I'm not putting anyone down. I'm putting anything down. I'm saying: It's a truck; let's not get ahead of ourselves. Going fast in a straight line is nice, but -- IMO -- exceedingly boring after a few minutes. Let's just say my favorite track more resembles the Nordschleife than Talladega. If it can't keep up on that kind of track, it doesn't get much respect from me.
