Bourdais to Renault?? He hasn't exactly set the F1 world on fire and is so far outclassed by Vettel.

Bourdais to Renault??
The problem with such a move isn't Bourdais' ability, but who would fill the second driver's seat. Renault were a championship-winning team two years ago, before the R27 chassis was introduced and the team spent most of their time backpedalling. There's no doubt in my mind that Flavio Briatore wants to get back to that level as soon as possible because Renault are fighting over the scraps; Singapore was a lucky break for them (though I am curious to see what would have happened if Alonso had never had his fuel problems). If they want to get back to that stage, they're going to need to retain the services of Alonso, or at the very least, hire someone like him: someone who knows how to win and keep the team moving forwards on that front. But if Renault were to have a lineup that consisted of di Grassi/Grosjean, Bourdais/di Grassi or Grosjean/Bourdais, I think they'd have a lot of trouble retaining the level of competitiveness they desire, much less holding onto it for long enough.

But he's far better than Nakajima, Sutil, Piquet Jr and Coulthard this year.

Not every driver has to "set the world on fire" they do, however, have to prove they are capable of good results....and we have seen Bourdais get very close twice now.
More than Piquet has ever done, at the very least.

In the end, I feel Bourdais deserves a second year in F1, he clearly has the speed and race pace, just not the luck.

I'm not disputing that Bourdais deserves a second year in F1, heck I'm sure he's got a long future in F1, but for him to go to Renault I'm not sure he's fully adapted to F1 yet to warrant going to a team like Renault.

Renault = French
Bourdais = French
French + French = Via la France!

True, but don't forget this:

Given Bourdais' history with Renault, the union seems unlikely. A few years ago, bemoaning the French marque's reluctance to give him a chance in F1, Bourdais said "I know I don't belong there."

Then how come Piquet Jr got a seat? Hm? I don't see what you're trying to say here.

Piquet got a seat because he payed renault alot of money.
Full season in F1
Telemetry
Driver tuition
Help from Alonso

I know of someone who payed for similar services in Renault Worlds series: £750,000 it cost the driver to race in that team for a season.

Piquet would also have had to bring in a large sponsor.

Bourdais doesn't have to be the pay driver 💡
If Alonso quits, make Bourdais lead driver and back him up with a better pay driver or if needs be, Piquet again.

I don't see this as a good explanation for why Bourdais is not "fully adapted" to F1 to join Renault?

Since Massa is going to finish ahead of Kimi in the DC, do all of you think he'll get the first-drive Red-top Ferrari, or do you think he'll stay with the second-drive Yellow-top to match his helmet?

Interesting question. I think they should stay with what they are, or it could get a little confusing for some-people. And because I think Kimi is the First Driver for Ferrari. :)

id think he would stay in the second car. from what i can tell ferrari, unlike other teams, dosnt really seem to have a noticable diference between there first in second driver and they seem to treat the same equally. you dont see this in other teams especially there biggest rival mclaren.

True in 2008 season. Not true in almost all other seasons I can remember, and I can remember a lot of them :sly:

Massa is yet to win a world championship : he stays at number 2.

Yeah, I believe even if Massa wins the championship he won't be considered the first driver next year. They would probably just treat them equally.

Really? Perhaps you missed the last 12 years of F1? Ferrari did clearly have a number 1/2 situation in the team for a very long time, the only time they back the second driver is when the first driver has failed in some way (e.g. Schumacher's leg injury, so they backed Irvine).
Fuel strategies are only half the story, and in top teams like Ferrari, they usually try to keep both drivers on low fuel strategies. McLaren have clearly decided that Kovalainen drives better on heavier loads.

The team I'd say had the smallest 1/2 organisation in this season would be Toyota, but in the end, if the team wants their drivers to win championships, they have to choose which one gets the support when it gets to the end of the championship, especially when they can tell one to let the other past to gain more points.
Its up to the teams how they balance going for drivers points or constructors points.

Anyway, to answer the question, Massa will be 2nd driver still. Unless Kimi has 2 awful seasons in a row, thats how it will stay, and even then, Kimi probably wouldn't be demoted, they'd probably kick him out and grab someone else like Vettel, Alonso, etc.

Sorry really should have reprashed that.i do mean current ferrari and more clarrification i mean since massa and raikkonen have been on the same team. realy they dont seem to favor one over the other. probably cuz they know both are capable of winning the WDC so it further increases there chance to not favor one over the other unlike the other teams that need there second driver to help the number 1 driver as much as possible.

Sometimes people have to compromise their own beliefs if they want to do something. If Bourdais' options are joining Renault or leaving F1 altogether, odds on hat he'll join Renault.

Briatore has allready stated that Bourdais is too old for Renault, so he won´t be in a Renault any time soon. Bourdais is aparently looking at options outside of F1 too, so he may not be here at all next season.

I said that before Briatore mentioned Bourdais was too old for the team.

In the "bem amigos" TV show, Reginaldo Leme and Galvao Bueno, our broadcasters for over 30 years pretty much confirmed Alonso and Piquet as the Renault drivers in 09. They said Piquet is already in the signing process.

Weird, but they are reliable and always have inside info.

You know, I wouldn't be too surprised to see Bourdais keep his drive, or at least stay within the sport. Sure, he had a rough start after Australia, but he's done a bit of a Heikki Kovalainen and come good in the last few races. It might be enough to save him.
