They needed to re-confirm it as everyone knew that they would have been re-considering their driver line-up with the promise of potential new(er) drivers suggested (provided?) by McLaren.
Personally, I think Fisichella should have bowed out when Renault didn't offer him a new contract. He went from a team that knew how to win to a team that only knew winning as a dream.

Better being in a team that recently secured a rather juicy deal with McLaren Mercedes than not being in F1 at all, I actually think Fisi is quite lucky.
Why would you rather have seen Fisi out of F1?

Because I think he's one of the most over-rated on the grid. Sure, he got he odd win with Renault ... but only when Alonso couldn't keep up. He might offer a lot to Force India in terms of experience, but I think he'd be better suited as a test driver. I can't see him joining a better team any time soon, so it's kind of a low note to end his career on.

Ah I see, I agree though I never really rated him highly anyway, he's still a decent driver, but nothing more than a mid-field driver at best.
I doubt many drivers worry about how they end their career and worry more about having a drive in F1, as is evident with Barrichello.

I wouldn't write-off Force India just yet, I think they deserve this year to show what they can do, I don't think its fair to judge their performance this year seeing as they were using an upgraded Spyker, lets see what they can do with McLaren support and a new chassis designed by themselves.

I'd say that the sheer effort involved in getting a drive in F1 is so big that you have to totally love F1 to put the effort in to make it. At that point most would hang on to their stay in the sport for as long as possible.

Last night I speculated with a friend that with the pull out of Subaru from Rally meant that Richards was eyeing Honda. This coupled with the news from a Close friend of Richards that a 'Japanese company has recently acquired part of the Prodrive company' made me and my friend Ross come to a conclusion that Honda and prodrive were teaming up. Needless to say I wasn't surprised when I saw this: Prodrive for Honda.

I personally hope Prodrive does manage to purchase the team and I'm just wondering, who else do we know is a "potential buyer"? I remember Peugeot/Citroen being mentioned, but is there anyone else? Otherwise, I don't see why Prodrive cannot secure it.

They're certainly the best proposal, though I do believe Eccelstone has said that there are "at least three" potential buyers for Honda.

Sean John-Honda :dopey:

lol now that would be humorus to watch. especially thinking about what the pit crew and drivers would be wearing.

I think alot of us had the feeling that was going to happen, and with Bourdais apparently looking at Indycar, could we see TAKU! in a Toro Rosso. That's my tip, would love to see some ballistic Taku-san driving again.

I wouldn't read too much into Bourdais investigating rides in IndyCar. He knows that the final seat at STR is either going to him or to Sato, and he's keeping his options open if he doesn't get an F1 ride.

From an interview back in October:
"The bosses at Toro Rosso don't seem to be in any hurry to decide my future. The concern is that I have other offers outside of F1 that I need to respond to."

All that said, I'd give Sato the inside line on the final seat, based on a November interview, though it's not set yet.

"If it was just a team principal decision we would have already signed for next season," Bourdais told GPUpdate.net. "It is purely a financial issue unfortunately. Obviously it doesn't really matter what they want if you don't have the money. It is now a pretty simple, but nasty game. If you find the money you will be all right but if you don't they put you on hold. They can't make a decision until they have all the cards in their hands and I'm just playing the waiting game."

Insane vision: With Berger's retirement, Aguri-san is summoned from the dead, with Sato, they find some more Japanese sponsorship, and voila: Super Toro Rosso Coffeine Addict Hello Kitty SONY PLAYSTATION3 Minardi F1. Racing.

I think Sato's money will be a big bonus in the race for the seat..

I think he also has Team Peugeot Total to fall back on.

Bruno Senna has decided to chance F1 and not go back to GP2:

Senna rules out GP2

By Charles Bradley Wednesday, February 4th 2009, 15:52 GMT

Last year's GP2 Series runner-up Bruno Senna will not return to Formula One's feeder category, autosport.com can exclusively reveal.

Senna, who holds the key to this year's junior single-seater driver market with GP2 teams waiting for his decision before firming up their plans, tested impressively for Honda F1 before Christmas.

He had been expected to return to iSport after Honda announced its withdrawal from F1 soon after his run at Barcelona.

However, Senna informed iSport early this week that he will hold out for an opportunity in F1 this year, rather than return to their GP2 line-up.

His only option for a race drive would be at Scuderia Toro Rosso or whatever form Honda F1 might take on if the Brackley-based team continue to operate under new ownership.

Autosport.com can also reveal that Norfolk-based iSport have now set the wheels in motion to sign another Brazilian, former DPR racer Diego Nunes, to partner Giedo van der Garde for GP2 in 2009. They hopes to tie-up the deal by the end of the week.

For the full background to the story, read this week's Autosport magazine.

Or this American team which is allegedly coming in. A name like Senna they would jump on. Would be a great PR move.

But why would Senna not drive in GP2 for 2009 when that team is allegedly coming in 2010?

I just hope this doesn't mean Senna has got the money needed to take Bourdais seat.

Agreed, though I wouldn't be surprised if that has happened.
I think Barrichello or Button also have as much chance of landing that STR drive too though.
