2010 ALMS thread

I am watching it live on Speed.

I don't know, the BMWs were REALLY fast and clearly a lot faster than the Corvette. I think it was a good call 'cause if you're not careful, like I said, you could end up in the wall 'cause the guy you're blocking gets tired of dealing with you and just punts you out of the way. It is very risky to block like that. And, you block like that, it could end up causing a bigger accident. I think it's Corvette's fault for not letting the BMWs by. I know it was for position, but...I mean, when I'm racing in Gran Turismo or something and there's a guy behind me that's faster, I might do my best to keep him from passing, but if it's that much faster, I'm not going to push the issue like the Corvette was and I'l just let them by so I don't end up in the wall.

Edit: Looks like the #40 GT is fixed and back out. BTW, isn't the Ford GT going to get a new sponsor next year? and two cars?

They're hoping to have two cars at Petit Le Mans and as long as they can find the funding(so yes a new sponsor)the whole of next season.👍

I hate working weekends. I'm watching the previous race now and i'll have to catch this one later in the week.:grumpy:

My lord these BMWs are really fast! They're catching the Flying Lizard Porsche currently leading the GT class with Pat Long on-board. Gap between Bill and Pat is around 5.5 seconds... Fastest GT lap belongs to Joey Hand BMW at 56.006.

EDIT: Even faster, 55.943...

congrats to all the winners. Flying Lizard able to hold off the BMWs and Andy Lally coasting across the finish line in LMPC. :P 👍

Whow the race was awesome!

Congrats to all the winners but I wasn't really following LMP much. More to GT but it was just awesome... BMW's finished 2-3 is good enough to make me happy for staying up and extending their lead in the Championship. I really wish BMW to win but boy the Lizard just took the oppotrunity!

Great race, Mid-Ohio next :)

Was a good race and the first hour was very hard racing with so many accidents happening. I'd like to hear more about the penalty to the corvette for blocking because to me it looked like the corvette was driving defensive but he was holding his line and only making one move. That, usually at least, isnt blocking just defensive driving. Maybe because of how long it when on that the call was made, but it seems odd to see that call.

yeah, it was most likely because Corvette was blocking for so long. But, again, the #3 didn't finish the race. Corvette is now officially having worse luck than the Jaguar. Speaking of, it's nice to see the Jaguar team actually complete an entire race. :P Glad they got their electrical issues fixed. And, it sounds like they're going to be getting a second car and make some design changes for the 2011 season.

Tomorrow is the CTC race and then Mid-Ohio is in a couple weeks. :P

Ok i just re watched the footage of the fight between the BMW's and the #4 and I dont agree with the penalty at all. the only time the corvette was not on the racing line was down the front straight where he took a defensive line down the inside. He never changes from his line he sticks to it the whole time.

You can see the footage again here: http://www.corvetteblogger.com/2010...-beretta-penalized-for-blocking-at-lime-rock/

Through the whole track he stays on line and only takes a different line from the rest down the front stretch. Do not understand where this call came from.

Well maybe the blocking was at 4'29 in the video... The BMW was clearly faster but the #4 just cut across back to take the inside thus contact... Not sure but official made the decision to put that as a penalty so it was just bad luck.

Also Beretta's statement on ''He bumped me three times. It should have been the opposite way'' was kinda irrelevant. I mean racing without bumping in that sort of situation is kind of impossible with the speed of the BMW and the Corvette was quite far away (look how far Beretta's team mate has gone away). Obviously the BMW has more speed on the straight especially traction coming out of the corner so whenever the BMW accelerate it will bumped on the slower outing Corvette. Furthermore, he's just risking himself and others on the track by defending his position like that. I'm not saying that he can't race with the BMW but when the speed difference is huge then no use to defend in a small track like this. Just nothing that he can do unless the BMW really was bumping the Vette when lunging on the inside which it was obviously relevant to call for a penalty.

It was a shame for the Corvette Racing Team and to Beretta himself but this is racing, bad luck, good luck it's all to play down.

Just attended this event yesterday, it was brutally hot. Missed the vette incident but was able to see the contact between Klaus and Brabham abeit from a distance. TV just doesn't show how fast they're cooking down the straight.:)

I saw the replay of the Lime Rock Park race last night. I was bummed for Risi Competizione (especially the #62 car) as well as Mazda and Johnny O'Connell's Corvette. What a crazy race! I hate to make this parallel, but who says that sportscar racers can't mix it up like short track racers? Then too, I always call Lime Rock Park as my idea of short track racing. This was a crazy race.

Well... bring on Mid-Ohio in two weeks!

I'll be down at Mid Ohio tomorrow. I've been looking forward to this for the past month. Grand Am was fun, but ALMS is the top for me.

Apparently there's going to be two new races next season: Baltimore joins the calendar (Indycar are also visiting the city) in the place of Lime Rock Park, whilst Oklahoma City is in talks to host a race on the Independence Day weekend.

I'm kind of glad that Lime Rock is getting replaced. It can make for exciting racing, but it's just too short and there's not that many passing opportunities. But I don't like too many street circuits either. They all start to look the same.

While I think variety to the calender is a great thing for the series, I don't think that adding new street tracks is the best way to go. While going to new markets for the series is great, there are new opportunities coming in the future and that already exist to go to new (or returning) venues. The Texas GP track would be great for ALMS racing, and it would be a return to Texas after going to Reliant Park in 2006 and 2007 (and 2008 if the merge didn't happen between Champ Car and IRL). But i really should wait it out to see what the layouts for the tracks will be, and if the IRL can get their act together when they race alongside the ALMS. I never know, they could be great street tracks.

Seriously, the only reason I sometimes watch the IRL is to see what madness Taku Sato and Paul Tracy pull, not for the racing.

Mid-Ohio this weekend! Drayson Racing On Poll! :D Libra Racing isn't Slow! 👍
But Cytosport had a nasty crash, they withdrew... :indiff:

Well, this is where Indycar is going:

It looks like some kind of bastardisation of Long Beach. This would be better, methinks. Even if it is just a bastardisation of Toronto. And this one is about the most interesting thing I could do with Oklahoma.

It's too narrow, too short and too congested. Baltimore was sought because Lime Rock was in Conneticut, and therefore represented the north-eastern market sector that the organisers didn't want to give up. So they went to Baltimore. I don't know if the series will race on the same course as the Indycars, though.

Tough times for the BMW boys... Many-many problems so far and everything seem to be not right. #90 BMW has just came in, driver change, tyres... and a spun for #92

The Vette is looking good, so as the Ferrari. Jaime Melo is charging on Oliver Gavin.

EDIT: Kinda funny, BMW always got the advantage when the Full on-course yellow is on the track, but really bad after the restart. Imagine 1-2 BMW lost the lead to the 3rd place Jaime Melo at one corner, very right after the restart. Makes me want to drink the whole Tabasco

Did the BMWs pit before the caution?

Yeah they did... And lost again after restart. They are seem to not looking good here unlike what they were last time around in Lime Rock.

My Goodness... More positions lost for the BMW.

EDIT: Oli and Jaime battle rages on! Full course caution now...

EDIT: Anyway does anyone knows why Joey Hand BMW spun around in the race while the #92 was in the pit? He said he got bumped but didn't caught or missed it in the stream.

I was at Mid-Ohio today. It was the first race I've watched in person. It was a blast! Watching those GT cars in person was amazing! I was at my uncles RV and we watched fron the roof right off the first straight. My family is a Ferrari family (or Corvette) So we were happy to see BMW get 2 tough breaks right in a row ;p and to see Ferrari take the "W"! Would have liked to see a Partone Ferrari get a pole position today but I guess 1 is enough.

More like they've given up the NE sector for the Mid-Atlantic sector, don't you think? We'll probably have to wait until the 2011 schedule is released for the confirmation.
