2010 ALMS thread

Just finished watching the race on Speed. And WOW! What a race at the start and at the end. I am really impressed by Mowlem taking the Autocon Lola to the front was great for the team who has the same reliability as the RSR Jag. Then again, both AER P1 Lolas don't have the best reliability. Intersport was out on Lap 2, I sure hope they get their act together for Mosport, PLM, and 2011 (Intersport Lola-Ford anyone?) But seeing Cocker put on a charge at the end of the race was simply amazing. Dale White's strategy worked very well. Can't wait for the next two races of the season. Scott Atherton says there could be 50+ cars at PLM!

Wow! Did you all see that final lap battle at Road America among the LMPs? That was GREAT! Hats off to the winners in all four classes.

Mosport next Sunday!

Cant wait for Mosport. Hoping the vettes will pull together and get a win there this season. The LMP battle at the end was very fun to watch. To think the Drayson went from 4th to 1st in the last 10 mins.

I'm very glad to see Lime Rock on the schedule. 👍

Watching Cocker after the caution was great.
Congrats to the Drayson team.

I wasn's sure who's on fault between the crash of Scott Tucker and Bill Auberlen. Some say that Bergmeister made a little bit of contact behind Bill that sent him Bill hitting behind Scott. Feel sorry for them but that's how racing goes...

Congratulations to the winner, in all classes and as a fan of BMW RLR, it's a massive congratulations for Joey Hand and Dirk Mueller for winning this year at Road America!

I just wanted to say that I'm looking forward to the race tomorrow, as...I will be attending it in person. I wanted to ask people in this thread if they would like shots of any specific cars? I've already gone today for practice/qualifying and taken a bunch that I think are worthy. Just to let people know who I am (for those who don't know...I am rather invisible), I run the automotive photography competitions on GTP, and I have a gallery in the Photography sub-forum if you want to see some of my work. Just thought I'd ask, and depending on how fruitful tomorrow is - I will be glad to provide desktop wallpapers and the like. I hope it's be an exciting race tomorrow!

Fantastic! Can I have a couple of shots of an M3? Thanks in advance mate ;)

I got a fair bit of the M3s today, but I will try extra hard tomorrow to capture some good ones as well now that I know you want some! I'll be heading down to the garage area too, so I'll try to get some of theirs. You're most welcome, I'll enjoy doing it.

Have a good time at the race.

As far as pictures, I've seen your shots and love them.
I'm not into a specific car as I have many shots of cars.
What I don't have are good shots of the cars racing as my camera sucks.
So any of your shots of cars in action would be great, nothing specific.
Thanks.

I'm still compiling my shots from Lime Rock earlier this year.
Here's one.

I shall! I've been going for...6 or 7 years to this race. I'll make sure to get copious amounts of action shots as always. Gives me more flexibility when you don't choose to just pick the best overall shots. Heh. Thanks for the compliment too, I appreciate it.

Your shot is pretty nice too, it can be difficult to get a nice shot of the garages.

If anyone else has a request...better make it soon because I'll be going in a little more than an hour. :P

LMP car squeezed on of the GTC cars off the track...GTC car took out a chunk of guard rail, broken both axles and tore off a wheel...that almost hit one of the LMP cars.

EDIT: A couple big wrecks. This above one ended the race early 'cause the guardrail to was too damaged.

There was another one earlier where one of the BMWs tried to get around the Ford GT and almost flipped.

Looks like the drivers in these past two races have had issues with spacial relations. Yeah, Road America is a two wide track as is Mosport. The wreck the with the BMW at Road America was caused by people trying to go three wide on a two-wide course and the one that ended the race at Mosport was the same thing.

Next round is Petit LeMans.

Indeed the crash with one of the GTC car was indeed really big... That caused the red flag and ended the race with I think 26 minutes left in the race.

I am not sure what happened to the #90 BMW... There's not even a video in the Youtube so I won't say anything with it. Looks like the #92 is having a great time this time around.. 3rd place is already good for them!

Although I can't find a video for it, i remember seeing it hit the Robertson Ford and got a bit airborne. Still, at least Luke Hines is ok after a very nasty shunt. PLM is next!

Yeah, that's essentially what happened to it. Fortunately I think I have shots before the crash. It didn't hit the Robertson Ford GT very hard but then it went off and hit a curb most likely (Corner 9) and that's what caused it to go airborne. I'll have to watch it again, I have it taped still. Yeah, I was glad to hear he was okay.

I will probably have the shots, at least the BMW ones for next weekend. I have a lot to wade through (thousands), but I think I've gotten some good ones.

I watched SPEED's race recap but it only shows a very short part of the crash... It seems like the BMW is trying to go around the outside but the Ford GT trying to close the door thus made the contact that sent the BMW flying on the curb... The damage seems to be heavy and BMW Team RLR is now down to just 1 spare chassis. Hopefully they can fix the current chassis. Thank goodness both of the drivers were owkey...

That's owkey LongbowX, take your time with it ;)👍

What a crazy race that was!

Risi had a terrible weekend. Rahal Letterman hasn't been having the greatest luck the past 2 weekends.

It was great to see Dumas back in the Porsche again...I wonder who will fill in for PLM?

I don't think that the Ford's move was intentional, I think he didn't expect the BMW to close in so fast. I don't know. Hopefully they will get it repaired. It didn't look that bad chassis-wise but who knows what would wreck it beyond repair, certainly not me.

And I will. :P But not too long. I actually when through most of the shots (just looking at them), and I have a fair number of high-quality ones, I feel confident in saying. It may be my best work ever. The BMWs will be first though. Starting tomorrow.

Naah the it wasn't an intentional move... That's racing you know, as you said he might didn't expect the BMW to be on his side that quick. It doesn't seem like a very bad damage done but with a month or more break hopefully they can fix it and make it rigid again instead of using the spare one...

Nice! Sounds good... But I know, you have a very high skills in this ;)

That Porche hit the guard rail hard enough to shake the camera that was a good 100 feet away or so. I don't think I've ever seen a race ended early because a guard rail needed replaced. At least the guardrail survived long enough to do it's job and keep the Porsche from flying off in the woods or whatever.

Sucks for the BMW team, too. Just one more race though. Let's hope both cars can make it to Road Atlanta in five weeks. Just glad it didn't flip over completely. I guess he learned why one does'nt pass on the outside going into a chicane, though.

So this is a bit late, but that's ok. Here's the best of some 350 shots I took at Road America. The first time I got to put my 70-300mm lens. Enjoy!

It's always nice to see shots of Road America, such a gorgeous track.

Anyway, from the shots I've worked on - I think the first day was more fruitful (ironically the day I didn't ask people what they wanted), but regardless: here are some of my favourite BMW shots.

(I am a great fan of black and white, and I think it works well with the BMW because visually, a white car on a coloured background is not very attention grabbing, especially when there are other white things in the frame. Anyway...)

My personal favourite of the bunch (I think aesthically and technically it is strong (with it being taken at 300mm at 1/50)

There were a few others, but they didn't quite meet the grade I thought. Anyway, enjoy!

Oh, and I will be working on some of my other favourites (per my "action shot" request), but it might take me a little while longer because I'll be busier with classes.

Awesome shots man. Should have asked before but did you get any of the vettes?

I did, of course. I got some of...most if not all the cars. I will say though, the Corvettes are one of the trickiest cars to photograph (besides the fast-moving prototypes of course) because of their black wheels. In order for the wheels to look good (properly lit in some way), you have to pay careful attention to the lighting. I will try to work them into the next set, however. Thanks for the compliment too.

Fantastic shots Longbow! Really liking the black and white as well 👍

The last 3 are just beautiful :)

Wow, really great shots.

Some of these are the kind of shots that say "action" to me.
Nice.

And I thank you.

Real nice shots there mate! I have to say those are awesome!

Thanks for the pictures ;)👍 :D

Well, I'm glad you like them! You don't have to thank me....I enjoyed doing it. I meant to get shots of the BMWs garage but unfortunately when I visited there it was quite difficult to get a good shot, though I did try. :P

Thanks everyone.
