They were due to get that written explaination today....they only have until midday tomorrow to appeal...

I would imagine LFC will appeal. It's the only chance that Suarez might stay, if he can see the club is behind him. 10 games is too much. Defoe got ZERO for an identical incident. When the FA reviewed it they deemed it unnecessary to take any further action, yet they take TEN games for this.

Yep, Defoe got nothing because of this:

Defoe was not banned because FA rules meant that he could not be banned because the referee had seen and dealt with the issue on the pitch (a yellow card was awarded IIRC)... so you cannot compared these two incidents on that basis alone.

That's a ridiculous rule.

What if Suarez had been red carded, does that mean he couldn't be banned ?

I may have not understood correctly, but why should a player be suspended for ten games just because a referee failed to do his job properly?

It means he would just get the standard 3 match ban and would only get more if Chelsea complained. If any of the officials sees an incident, further action cannot be taken by the FA even if the officials didn't do anything about it.

Well, yeh... it is a ridiculous rule... Defoe should have been handed a ban for what he did too, but he got to look at a small piece of yellow card instead.

Come on, it's not like the FA to be a bunch of buffoons with ridiculous rules and even more ridiculous people in charge, is it?

Oh wait, the other thing.

Not stricktley true, if the referee gives a yellow card or says he saw the incident and didn't feel the need to do anything then no further action can be taken. If the referee gives a red card then the referee has given the strongest punishment he can give so if the incident deserved more than the standard 3 match ban, depending again on the referees report additional action can be taken. If the referee didn't see it then it goes to an independent panel who decide on the punishment given.

Yes, very true. It's the first thing they should change and it should have been done ages ago.

The refs are clearly biased too and even use this sometimes to guess at decisions that they have not seen properly. Some players like Rooney, Kompany, Suarez, etc are booked pretty much every time they try to make a tackle and miss the ball whereas players like Giggs, Aguero and Lampard can do the same thing and nothing will happen except for the free kick. Giggs can commit three fouls without being booked and Rooney does one that's similar and he gets booked because of what he's done in the past, this is not acceptable and yet nothing is done about it.:yuck:

A Man United player getting booked? :sly:

Complete BS apology. This biting incident is just the latest in a long line of shady acts by him and his apologies mean nothing. If he's sorry it's that he got caught. He bit before just a few years ago in the Dutch league. He had a racial abuse case just the other season against Evra. He is famous for diving and shady aggressive play. And then you see videos like this and you wonder why Liverpool continue to have him and his antics at their club.

He's always been a dirty player. And no, he's not the only one out there, and I deplore all of them. But with that in mind, he has a particular knack of dirty play but then playing the victim. It's outrageous. As is the first tackle in that video for Ajax; I've seen it before and it's vile.

If that's a BS apology, what do you want him to say? At least he did apologize, which I'm fairly certain he didn't do to Evra during the racial abuse period. And maybe, if you wouldn't just look at a YouTube video that show how bad of a diver he is, then you would see that he's been doing a lot better to refrain since the beginning of the season up until this point.

The last link in this thread was about his 'defending', not his diving. That's another matter entirely.

So i know everyone wants to talk about Suarez still but i want to move on to this weekend...Reading or QPR could be relegated come Sunday...

So, I'm by no means a Suarez fan, but I just want to say, as shocking as that video is, if you made a "worst challenges" compilation of most strikers, they'd come out looking pretty thugish. It's called a striker's challenge for a reason.

That said, a couple of those (the two-footed super late lunge from behind, the kick on the downed player, the Scott Parker eye-gouging) are truly horrendous. To see those types of things, plus the biting (twice now is it?), and the handball in the World Cup, and the racism, and the diving... how can any club continue to stand behind a player like that? I understand that things happen, and everyone makes mistakes, but does anyone else feel like Suarez, with the pattern of behavior he's displayed, isn't really trying to get better about it?

EDIT:

I really can't see either of them escaping regardless of if it's confirmed this weekend or not. WHo will join them as the third club is a bit more of a debate. My money from the start of the season was on QPR, Reading, and Wigan to get the drop, and I'm standing by that, but I think Stoke, Sunderland, Newcastle, and Villa are all still in the discussion.

Methinks that Newcastle & Sunderland have too much quality to go down, but it could happen. Stoke have been right 🤬 since Christmas, so unless Tony Pulis gets things turned around quickly they could find themselves in trouble.

Paul Lambert seems to have Villa really fighting, so I'd like to see them stay up, but at the end of the day you get what you earn, and they were woeful for long stretches of the season, so if they go down it's only themselves to blame.

I couldn't watch the video, so I just assumed it was his diving. His defending is clumsy, over aggressive, and just bad in general. He misses the timing on nearly every one as well.

I know it isn't EPL but is anyone watching the Leicester v Watford game. Watford are 2-0 up thanks to a fantastic 25 yard first time shot firing in off the under side of the bar!

His apology means nothing. It's PR pushed most likely by his agent. If this was the first incident I'd be OK with it but being he has a history of stupidity and dirty plays, his apology is complete crap. If Liverpool keep him on, he'll act up again. Always has, always will.

I don't look at just youtube like what I posted, it was just 1 example of many. I've seen enough of him on club and country to know he's certainly a talented player who acts up more often than not as a complete idiot. Look at the facts, in just 2 years alone he's made the EPL's all time top 10 ban list twice. He's a dirty player, and nothing will ever change that with him. What's sad is that he has talent and is a great goal poacher with skill to find the back of the net. HighSeasHoMastr gets it, and I don't get how a prestigious club like Liverpool can continue to keep him on the roster and defend his dirty ways. They should cut their losses and dump him, but since he scores quite a lot of goals, most likely they'll keep him on board.

Has anyone else just seen Bale's goal? What on earth were Wigan doing?!
And as I wrote that Wigan pulled it back. Incredible.

I think a lot of people don't understand Suarez.

He has anger issues and has been seeing a councillor since the Evra incident. Since the Evra incident last year what has he done other then this. Do you really believe he's the only person to say a racial slur in a year of BPL football, not a chance. And yes he bit a player.. But tell me now, didn't Defoe bite a player in 2004? All he got was a yellow and no further action and was continually picked by the EFA for the England squad. And another incident in 2004 of a player biting a player in the BPL lead to a 5 game ban.

Why does Suarez deserve more? Because its 2013? That's not fair.

I may be a Spurs fan, but I feel bad for Figaroa, he was having a good battle with Defoe, but he really should have taken treatment after the first knock, he'll be out of the final now I'd say.

Personally, I don't like it when someone who is playing a sport earning millions acts a fool. Do that in any other place of employment and you'd be fired, if not arrested. But sports players always get away with murder it seems. I've been very vocal of dirty players on my own club even with friends.

So yesterday i mentioned how Reading or QPR would go down tomorrow, well they will both be down come Monday!...let me explain..

If Reading win..then QPR will be relegated

If QPR win...then Reading will be relegated

If its a draw...then both will be relegated

...also, whoever wins the game tomorrow, they will still be relegated if Aston Villa get a point v Sunderland on Monday night!

They may as well not turn up! :ill:

Won't they both be down if Wigan beat Spurs as well?
