I lost interest in football a little bit around 2008-2009 when Tottenham were doing bad and Rednapp had just taken over. I still supported them obviously but it wasn't until two years or so ago that I got really obsessed about it again. I remember the 2006 World Cup a lot clearer than the 2010 one, for example.

Well F1 is the same, there are several driver changes in pre-season and there are new drivers but once the season starts its the same races with the same teams and mostly the same drivers

I do sort of get your point though but I think its more exciting this year as last years top three changed their manager and you've got Spurs playing fantasy football as well!

Anyway back to the match, Suarez is starting and Rodgers has picked his strongest team!

Yeah F1, but then there is always endurance racing, BTCC etc, you get what I meant, so so so many different tracks and cars yet football, worldwide is still only the same field.

Rooney starts for United along with Nani, Kagawa and De Gea and Liverpool have named their strongest possible team with Suarez starting, Man this is going to be good!!

Holy 🤬, Kagawa????

United-De Gea, Rafael, Evans, Smalling, Buttner, Jones, Giggs, Nani, Rooney (c), Kagawa, Chicharito....Subs Amos, Anderson, Carrick, Welbeck, Fabio, Zaha, Januzaj

Liverpool-Mingolet, Toure, Sakho, Skrtel, Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson, Moses, Sturridge, Suarez...don't know the Liverpool subs...

United win 1-0.

Fantastic feeling. We needed this.

Great to see Kagawa start. Should have put on Carrick a bit earlier.

We badly needed that!, it was a tight game but the result is all that matters, it was a good game as well, couldn't take my eyes off it!

4th round draw up next..

Disappointed that the Swans are out, And the way we got knocked out as well, 3-1 v Birmingham, we are moving on the bigger and better things I suppose...

4th round draw!

Sunderland v Southampton
Leicester v Fulham
Birmingham v Stoke
Man United v Norwich
Burnley v West Ham
West Brom/Arsenal v Chelsea
Spurs v Hull
Newcastle v Man City

For the better really, Swansea don't have a huge squad and I'd imagine having the Europa League is tough and the League Cup would only add to that.

They've had 3 games in 6 days, Spurs had 3 in 5, just too much IMO.

I was very surprised when I saw the Swansea result! Especially because it was 3-1 to Birmingham.

Anyway, I'm happy with that after 2 losses in 3 games in the EPL. I'm also happy with the 4th round draw as well at home to Norwich.

So on to this weekend we go then, and the big game is Tottenham-Chelsea which will be on BT 12.45 KO tomorrow and the interesting thing in the build up to the game is the rift between AVB and Mourinho, which came about after Mour turned down AVB to be his assistant (don't know where but im guessing it was Real Madrid) and AVB has said that the friendship has broken down, so im just wondering now, are they going to shake hands tomorrow?

I predict 2-2 for Spurs and Chelsea.

Just before the end of a low key first half, Ramires will score out of literally nowhere and give Chelsea a 1-0 lead at half time. At some point either Soldado or Paulinho (with a backheel) will equalise. 5 mins from time, Eriksen or Lamela will score a worldie that everyone thinks is the winner. But then, in the last minute of injury time, Mata (off the bench of course) scores and gets Chelsea a point, and him a place in the starting 11! (OK he won't get that)

If that happens and you get that right then it'll be extraordinary!

2-1 spurs and i may place a big bet on that tomorrow.

Edit: unless he plays Mata then i could be a different story

I'm saying 2-1 Spurs as well. I just don't think that Chelsea's midfield has gelled just yet.

Fantastic start of the PL Saturday. Spurs 1-0 up, Sigurdsson.
As expected, this is a very enjoyable game to watch.

Predicted line ups for United anyone?

De Gea
Evra Vidic Evans Smalling
Carrick Fellaini
Kagawa Rooney Januzaj
RVP

Could there be a separate thread where United fans speculate on small details? I prefer to actually talk about football.👍

 Most of the posters here are United fans so generally there will be a lot of United discussion. Also the thread title is general football discussion, I think talking about speculated lineups is discussion.

So is talking about the cut of grass on the pitch or the construction of the goal netting but I haven't brought it up. Well, till now I guess.

On a US website, this is entirely to be expected...
Sorry I don't follow

Fine to talk about it but it's not the most interesting subject matter.

Famine is making light of the fact most US people who know football exists supports Man United.

Neither is predicting one team's line-up for a not very big or important game.

Well, that and the fact that most Manchester United supporters have never been closer to Manchester than about 5 miles - as their plane flew over it.

Ah! Gotcha! :)

Neither is predicting one team's line-up for a not very big or important game.
Maybe not but I'm guessing it's still OK to talk about it since it's general football discussion.

Nani and Kagawa from start?

Great to see a few of the non-regulars such as Buttner play. Do miss Zaha though.
