The key thing, referring back to Furi's post is whether these players are still good enough at interntional. Friedel hasn't played for the States for years, and Seaman was past his peak upon international retirement.
However, van der Sar, Shilton, James and Buffon did play for their countries past 35. I'm surprised Paul Robinson isn't playing in the Premier League anyway, he's always been a good goalkeeper. Certainly, he would be experienced back up for Joe Hart at international level.
Look at it another way, from a pool of Hart, Ruddy, Butland and Forster, where is the experience? Hart is getting it on the go, and while players like Butland and Forster 'deserve a chance', and I'm fully behind promoting youth, I think it is important to have an experienced goalkeeper on the playing staff. Robinson meets this critireon perfectly.
