Did you see a car @ silverstone with a big driving boom hanging off the back of it to accommodate those that got used to chase cam? :sly:

I'm surprised , Tim. You're not correcting people that the bumper can view isn't really called that.

Right now, time is holding out okay but I'd feel a lot better if I can squeeze out another .2 seconds. Also have to consider my physical conditioning just in case. I'm a weird case of having good lower body strength but awful upper body. Every time I've tried working on it, I injure myself.

I don't know where the problem is to use chase cam? IMO you can just see your braking points and the car's behaviour better!

And as far as adapting, well I am an iRacing regular in which only cockpit view is allowed and I can tell you it didn't take me long to feel comfortable!

Changed their (reason for ineligibility) so it's clearer.

Last night i ended a session in 30th, but i´m also ineligible. Too Brazilian.

My story was, when i bought the PS3 i was living in Florida, i kept using this account due to PSN Store and friends list.

But i´m Brazilian and i will keep just playing GT Academy for fun like i always do.

This is why I use chase cam, and I do use cockpit view for some cars, like formula cars and karts or open top cars, but for a closed cockpit, the view you are given is terrible, if you could rotate your head then maybe it would be a good view but for now it's not great.

Good to know i´m not the only "weird one using chase cam". There´s no peripheral view like in real life, so in GT i have to use the chase view.

Coming from iRacing I used cockpit view last year and even made it so the FOV was lower (ie less side vision) so that it looked more like my iRacing calculated FOV. Also raced at nationals like that, although that part did suck.

I use chase cam too, always have in GT. On my buddies 3 monitor iracing setup the interior view is very cool, a lot easier to feel the car.

So you guys in the 17s, are you still pushing to drop a few tenths or are you taking it easy so you don't get burned out? I've messed up enough 17s that it is testing my sanity.

I did something kinda wild and changed wheels a few days ago, dfgt to a buddies G27. Once I get used to the braking I think it will be a good choice. I've got to move my whole leg to get full brake so trailbraking is goofy.

I'll throw out a prediction and say anything below 17.8 will land you in the top 31.

I thought I was obviously being a smartass.
Apparently this thread is serious business though*.

BTW, real shame that Canada continues to have silly contest laws though LP... you'd be an easy favorite. Nice job embarrassing the USA time sheet in the mean time.

I've given up on semantics... if people want to be wrong it's their own business. :P
(...but that camera is totally not on the bumper)

Another chase cam user here. It's the only view in GT where I can feel the car, which is weird because I use roof cam and cockpit in every other game

Exactly what I think, and on top of that in GT5 and in this demo, we have a ridiculously low rate of FPS!

That's quite insane lol... I guess it's a matter of getting used to it from the start.

Lol sorry if I missed a joke, I thought you were being serious.

Thanks, I like to think that I would be a favourite... But many more guys would try and give a serious shot at the demo if we were included. And yeah, I think I'm becoming an arse: I like embarassing people hehe

Going in Hot

Taking a break here. Yesterday, I felt exhausted after a few laps and I wasn't going anywhere. May do brief 30 minute stints once I'm rested so I don't forget.

If I was sitting where you were on the leaderboard I'd take a break too. 👍

So are you still thinking that a 17.5 is the bogey time? Seems like people aren't going that much faster, and some of that fastest guys are sitting on .6s and .7s.

That´s the million dollar question. Most of the folks serious about the competition already put their times in and now are just shading a few tenths here and there.

I think 17.7 is a safe bet.

I feel bad for the spanish guys. 17.2 right now is not good enough.

They were crazy only to give 9 spots to them. I think it´s going to be 16.9 overthere, at best 17.0.

Think about that.

Thanks man, adding you too the list.

You are all being too conservative, my lawd.

 The handle of ICE is just begging to be photoshopped into a microphone.

btw, why aren't you on the ineligible top 31 list? :sly:

I'm inclined to think Ed is right and the cutoff will drop a lot in the final week. I'm hoping it stays in the 17.7-17.9 range but that's probably wishful thinking.

Great job so far man! Really hope you make it too!

btw, just came across this Valdudes video:
http://youtu.be/UNbLvIovHQM?t=6m

I linked to 6 minutes in the video, where he says that National Finals are going to be in New York City. First I've heard, anywhere, of the location being mentioned.

I contacted Valdudes for confirmation, waiting to hear back.

But wow, that would be cool, lots of cool places to hold it 👍

You fast lot up in the NW will have hometown advantage. Us from the West are a different breed

Sorry to ask this question but for those that make it to the finals, will their expenses to get to NYC or wherever the national finals will be, be paid for them?

Woot, I finally did a 2:18.441 and now in 54th place. I'm still nervous about 'hell week' for GT Academy though. :nervous:

17.7 going? I wish so much but anyone doing an 18.5 or better can do an 17.7 give enough time (and they more than are). 17.500 or faster "maybe" the safe thanks to so many ineligible. I can name 6+ guys that should be good for 17.5s and they haven't shown yet.

Yeah, it's all expenses paid, alll the way, Silverstone too. Only thing to worry about is taxes.

Ran a 38.088 1st sector on.my 18.020 which sucks. Then turn around and can nail 37.7's amd .6's alot but every time I do I blow it within in 2 turns smh. So frustrating.
