AHHHHH It's finally over :P Good job to all who made it, even though we have no real idea yet who's in and who's not in. Looking forward to racing everyone at the National Finals! 👍

Yea but for them to call you or see if you want to go wouldn't you have to be in the top 31? Unless that many ppl in the top 31 aren't eligible and say you get bumped to 31 after the others are deemed not eligible at that point they would contact you to verify then you say you can't go and then I assume they call the next person which would be me? Not sure how the 32-46 places work

Position #s don't actually matter, it's the fastest eligible 31 people that make it.

Chris, you're not completely out of it ... If all previous Silverstone finalists are not eligible ... You just need 3 more finalists to be ineligible or not go to the finals. FYI - FASJ6418 is from Brazil.

Well that's somewhat hopeful but I'm not holding my breath. If it happens you'll probably hear me shouting for joy from where ever you happen to be.

Are you sure you didn't make it? You got a 2:17:8 didn't you? I think that was the cut off point. o.o Heartbreaking indeed though.

Didn't get a 2:17.8 only a .9. Had plenty of laps that should have been low 2:17s but Copse was my downfall. If I ever get to Silverstone I'm going to do something unspeakable to that corner. In all seriousness if I drove it in real life I'd probably love that corner but in the demo I was so inconsistent there till the last day. Then I started messing up maggots through chapel. I'm just not a good time trialer. Oh well.

Congrats guys, and nice job. Practice a lot for the Nationals, because when the cameras and microphones are in your face it becomes a whole new ballgame!

Enjoy the ride!

I logged in specifically to see how annoying it would be ;)
Not too bad, could've been positioned/colored far worse...

Or not display one at all.. 💡

Was mainly on about the added pressure it put on rather than the graphical design of it.
But yea, it was fine. 👍

LOL!! Copse and and maggots area was indeed hard. I kept up with the 10th guy with a 2:17:5 up until becketts and boom he flies away. My final time was a 2:18:376 :grumpy: We both went to racer x last year and didn't make that and this year was also a no go so it is heartbreaking for me as well. Next year will be it, start jogging!

Once I had a talk with her and figured out how Copse likes to be treated I never had any trouble there. The loop was always my devil. I want to light that corner on fire for being the ruination of my s1 hopes.

Congrats!

... And congrats to everyone else that made it!!

See you guys in New York ( U.S. guys )

Yea my sector 1 was awful also. My best lap was only a 37.9 there but my brook and luff were solid and made up for it. I had laps that were in the 38s in s1 that would have been mid 17s if I didn't throw away Copse. What was annoying was if I put together my best sectors I'd be easily in but one day I'd be fast in S1 and no where else. Another I'd own Copse then suck in S1. Never got a day where they all came together.

I can't say for sure because I suck this year and didn't make it, but with the amount of past finalists that are in the top 31 right now if they are told to go away, I'll bet that it's not going to go over well.

Sony had A WHOLE MONTH to fix the rules. It really would have taken them less than 30 seconds to fix. Not our fault they are incompetent. My internal source gave me the green light and said go for it, and he basically told me the same thing I just told you.

We'll see.

Looks like all the rules for all the countries are on their main web site. The United States is listed. On that page it says specific rules, on the us page it says official rules. I would bet Sony didn't change it because they didn't need to, it was there the whole time.

I think the best way to find out is to wait and see.
But my expectations are that whatever is decided, is respected!

Any fuzz, debates or arguments towards Nissan and GTA no matter what's decided, does'nt increase the chance of GTA returning for 2014.

There's a lot of furmulations in the rules that pretty much leaves the decition to the ones in charge. (Sole descretion)
And that was probably stated in the terms of agreement we all have approved to be able to download the demo.

That the rules are'nt clear is ofc a reason for frustration, but it's really not something to start whining about (no matter what the final decition may be) imo.

There won't be one for next year?

No one knows.

Hopefully it does. But any negative discussion does'nt exactly increase the chance of it returning.

Not saying this as a fact or anything, but it could be something to keep in mind, that's all I'm saying.

I don't think anybody is "whining" either way right now.

Sony is the one that posted the rules. They have had plenty of time to amend the rules. They even had a stipulation in that if there was a rule change during the TT competition, it would be posted and all competitors would receive an email. Nothing posted, no email sent.

There has never been any mention in the official rules about past competitors. The only mention of such "rules" is by non-Sony, non-Polyphony, non-Nissan persons.

As far as I am concerned at this point, the past competitors being ineligible is a complete myth when it comes to the U.S. competition.

I can see that people outside the top 31 really want to go. The people inside the top 31 really want to go as well. I can see where people will be upset. They are just being passionate about competing. Which I believe is the whole point. I in no way see any statement by those involved being thought of as "whining."

Well put Dennis. If everyone starts complaining it makes the USA look bad on a world stage. We already have entitlement image problems in the rest of the world... no need to prove that stereotype. And the "sole discretion" thing is one of the big reasons Canada isn't in the running. The rules page for the USA would lead to a $10 million fine under Canada's laws.

Dennis is cautioning against all the earlier talk of "lawsuits" and "PR nightmares" for Sony/Nissan. IF you're not invited, he's saying that it will be better for everyone if there's no soreness or moaning about the rules situation.

Nice final push btw. 👍

Anyone try out the new part of the demo with Shulze GTR? I got some insane understeer on that little left hander just after the loop going onto wellington straight, and also at copse. Just seems like way too much, or maybe that's just the nature of the beast?

Congratulations to all finalists!!
My best of wishes to my mate William Fisher aka supernasty, hope you make it to Silverstone my friend :)
Doodle, i'm sure that when you have 18, you'll be at the top of the list for sure :)

Good luck to all guys.

Well put Dennis. If everyone starts complaining it makes the USA look bad on a world stage.

I think this is a bit premature. I don't really see anybody full on complaining right now.

In my eyes if the rules are followed as stated, this "talk of ineligibility" was never real. There is no "mud" on Nissan/Sony. It was all just a bunch of hearsay on a forum.

If the rules are changed, then I believe I have every right to "whine." .. and in doing so, I won't feel un-patriotic to the USA :sly:

But like I said, we aren't there yet.

I also want to state that Nissan was absolutely wonderful to me during the last competition. They are great people that run this competition. I am sure most of the past contestants would also agree that we were treated really, really well.

Of course no one wants this competition to end. This is a great opportunity that we are all very lucky to have. 👍

-ps Dennis and Tim, long time guys, hope all has been well with you. Tim, I look forward to the possibility of meeting you in person in New York.

Hi Rees!
Long time no see! :)

Maybe "whining" was a bad word (I think you refered to my post).

I was more on about the endless discussion going on.
It won't lead anywhere.

Why not just wait and see, and whatever is decided, respect it and move on.
If previous finalists (nationals, race camp or whatever) are or are'nt eligable pretty much falls under the "sole discretion" part in the rules the way I see it.

If previous finalists gets to go, I'm happy for them.
If previous finalists are ineligable, I'm happy for the rookies that get the chance instead.

Nothing to start a debate about imo.
That's all. 👍

Meh, the stereotype is there for a reason, one or two extra occurrences on top of tons of others won't do much additional damage to the reputation. And I doubt a few complainers on internet boards are even worth paying attention to for Sony/Nissan.

I was more on about the endless discussion going on.

I agree. Although I can't fault those involved having feelings one way or the other. Me included :)

Nothing to start a debate about imo.
That's all. 👍

I will try and quell my desire to post about this before the final emails get sent out. I hear where you are coming from, and my feelings on the matter have already been stated.

Cheers Dennis,

Rees

Wow thanks Fabian! That means a lot :)

I really wish they let South America race. You deserve a chance more than anyone I know!

Congrats to this year's National Finalist!

I gave it a go with 3 hours left and only managed a 2:18.038. I just wasn't fast enough after Wellington Straight, I'd put down a 37.7 S1 and it went downhill after that.

I just thought I'd drop a message to congratulate everyone for the dedication and the hard work you had to put in during this month of TT! It's once again very exciting to see many familiar names being finalists and potential TV stars in Silverstone :D Good job all of you, and now don't forget to practice every day!

And I want to say that I DID NOT create any sub Let_Canada_In accounts. 2 of these were more than enough IMO.

So, what does a rough and aggressive Finalist lap look like?

Abbey - Finally had the courage to use all the track the last few days. At best, I can use the inside curbing and still be legal. Not on this lap. Just not enough brake for a proper slide so I pushed wide of the strips. Slow approach through Farm.

Village - The only time the car did exactly what I wanted it to do. Just enough rotation to clear the corner and not go too far wide.

The Loop - Tried to kick just the rear but both my rights went. Missed the apex but it turned out okay because I was able to mash the gas without banging the limiter.

Brooklands/Luffield - Went in hot and it stuck. Perfect! Then I mucked up the exit. Too much throttle and the car continued turning left into Luffield. Wanted to double-apex with the rear kicking out about halfway for a power exit but I went too far up the track. Missed the second apex. I had succesfully slid all the way through Luffield and gained time, but most of the time, I understeered like crazy or spun out.

Copse - Ended up choosing a very late entry with tons of rotation, followed by quickly unwinding the wheel to have a straight exit carrying tons of speed. Again, it slid wrong so I made the left front mad and I lost time mid-corner out trying to keep the Z on the track.

Maggots-Becketts-Chapel - Nope, could never use all the track entering Maggots without that sausage sending me into a spin. Since this was my third lap, I had zero front grip and that mean any hopes for a good slide went out the window. Chapel was especially brutal. I should've gone wide but 3rd gear saved me.

Stowe - At this point, I was behind my .645 ghost which made me attack. My foot did some magic at mid-corner which kept the car moving but once more, exit understeeer. I was stunned that little black flag didn't come up and slap my hand.

Vale-Club - 95% of the time, when I try attacking Vale like in the vid, I end up going wide on entry, cutting the corner or losing the rear trying to get back on throttle. Nothing like that happened. Unfortunately, I mucked up my pedal work trying to be careful with the left-right transition since my tires had very little traction at this point.
