The first sentence under the winners portion of the terms and conditions states.

"All decisions regarding all matters of this contest are at sponsor's sole discretion and are final and binding."

Basically means that Nissan and Sony can do whatever they want.

Trust me, while I wont go into details, us Racer X guys experienced this first hand in Los Angeles.

I'm not trying to start and argument here. Just simply stating my observations and opinion. It wouldn't make any logical sense for Sony and Nissan to allow past race camp contestants back again. They do this for the marketing and PR alone and having a bunch guys on the show that already competed and didn't make the cut prior would make for boring TV. They want fresh faces and new stories. Not the same stuff from previous years.

yep... BTW care to elaborate on the LA thing?

(I'm already irked that they did it on the west coast 2 years in a row, 1 in LA, 1 in NYC and 30 from the TT would be best IMO).

As far as the eligibility thing goes, I'm in just on the teenagers and Canucks so no chip on my shoulder. But I will say that I would prefer to have the same opportunity previous winners had... an even playing field of all rookies. That's really all it is for me, I want the same great experience had previously and the same opportunity to succeed.

Thankfully I was one of the 5 that got flown out to LA to compete in Racer X. It was an incredible experience.

It wasn't anything major. Just a small variation in the rules that were stated. It bothered us at first, but we got over it. Just like any mature individual should. And all in all it ended up being for the better and we all still had a great time.

I wouldn't be too bothered if they told me i wasn't allowed back, seeing as its in New York this time. You guys will see me whether im allowed to compete or not(that is, if its going to be open to the public like it was last year), seeing as its less than an hour from my house. Im pretty sure the guys who have been to Silverstone already are all pretty happy having been there once, or if your like me, happy that youve proven to yourself that your good enough to potentially go again. And if your not, you should probably be reminded of how awesome it was to go the first time, and what it will mean for the new Top 16 to go through. Even if i am allowed back, i was thinking about declining, as i wont have time to practice.

Congrats to this years Top 32. See you all at Nationals!

Then they should have put it in the rules. That's really what this comes down to, they screwed up and now they have to pay for it by dealing with the aftermath.

I get that, and im sure they will get around to clarification in the coming weeks. But what aftermath? Who is upset by the lack of clarification? Im confused, but im not gonna make a big deal if they have to go back and ammend something. Besides, as BLKJ Evolution pointed out.

"All decisions regarding all matters of this contest are at sponsor's sole discretion and are final and binding."

Even if it wasn't in the original rules, they are allowed to make mistakes, or change whatever they want. The only aftermath i could see was if they used this rule to suddenly cancel the entire competition for no good reason.

Just to clarify for my own peace of mind:

Do I need to do anything other than make sure the info on my PSN account is accurate and wait for an e-mail/call from Sony?

The rules say:

"Contestants will be required to update their SEN account information with accurate name, age, home address, phone number and an e-mail address so that Sponsor can notify them of their standings."

But my SEN account doesn't let me add my Phone Number or Age.

Am I missing something?

Finalists who are in the top 31 and have taken considerable time away from life (Z06fun) to put laps in based on the rules not saying they are ineligible. I'm sure there are several others. It's a huge headache and could have been avoided if they would have simply taken 30 seconds out of their busy lives to update a few words on the website. And they had a month to do it no less. And I thought I was lazy.

@iamsupernasty
Yes, don't freak out. haha, you could be contacted as early as tomorrow or two weeks from now, no way to really know. Although Nationals shouldn't be more than four weeks away I'd imagine, so they could be quicker with reaching out to the finalists this year.

But yes, don't go crazy or paranoid if you don't get an email right away or if other people are getting theirs before you and such. It'll come.

As long as you've got every detail in your account right, you're good to go. Take a load off, live normally now, at least for a couple weeks heh heh (unless you're gonna start hitting the gym or practicing online a lot)

Thats fair, i didn't think of that. I forgot what a drag it was last year, 2 weeks of strait grinding. Never again... I promised myself i wouldn't do that again this year, so i only played for the last 4 days or so. I could see the headache associated with a months worth of effort to be told your ineligable.

At the same time for the previous winner's all precedent and logic suggest that if you put in a ton of effort this year there is a chance of being ineligible at the last minute. It's like a gambler being upset that they went all in and lost it on the river.

From the rules page it looks like the US finals are ~4 weeks away on the weekend of Aug 24th & 25th.

"The 31 contestants with the fastest race time at the end of the Online Qualifier Time Trial 5 will win a prize package to the GT Academy National Finals (the “National Finals”) that will take place on or around August 24-25, 2013."

Congrats Dan on the ridiculously fast lap that we were all chasing! Congrats to all the finalists!

Thanks Daryl! And congrats to you too! Hopefully you decide to come to nationals this year and compete, Brian and I don't want to be the only guys over 30!

And this one goes out to Brian and Nick, since we are all flying from Portland " I call window Seat!" :sly:

Congrats to everyone that made it this year , and I hope everyone had a great time!
Dan

If they didn't care to update the rules, which I'm sure some of you guys attempted to contacted them, then what makes you think they'll care to "deal" with the aftermath if they change them? Someone already quoted the rules stating they can change things at their own discretion. Sure it's unethical considering a lot of people invested time in this but, we're dealing with a corporation as well as the media for the show...

I wouldn't mind seeing familiar faces considering the first season was done properly (in my eyes) and I didn't watch the second season because the shows were only 30 minutes each; not enough focus on the driving aspect of the competition. We'll see what they do. Best of luck to all the contestants-to-be.

Is it weird that I check my e-mail every 30 minutes with eagerness even though I know that all e-mails get forwarded to my cellphone anyway?

This is torture :)

Yeah I specifically created a new PSN that goes to my phone so I could avoid checking it obsessively. :)

nope... still empty.

Given GT's history we'll get an email saying nationals have been delayed, and we'll get another email with the new date "soon" :sly:
