Gonna fill out the form right now! 👍

Well I guess they are not planning on including those of us that already attended Silverstone:odd::irked::confused::mad::rolleyes:🤬:boggled:?? Yet absolutely nothing posted in the contest rules.

No email of explanation, nothing posted on Sony website. I am biting my tongue as hard as I can right now, because I have a lot I want to say.

Sorry, not meaning to take anything away from those of you that earned your spot and are going to Nationals. Congrats!

At the same time for the previous winner's all precedent and logic suggest that if you put in a ton of effort this year there is a chance of being ineligible at the last minute. It's like a gambler being upset that they went all in and lost it on the river.

Gotta agree with this. But there are tons of other opportunities for the GT Academy alumni elsewhere ..........

American Ninja Warrior. And btw, I'm not kidding.

Dude like I said before, I am excited to see you on Ninja warrior! You deserve an opportunity to do whatever you try out for, as you obviously have the skill and passion to be successful.

Well, I would agree that it would be like gambling... If I believed what was posted on internet forums(by people not associated with Sony or Nissan) instead of the official rules and didn't put in the effort.

I read the official rules and justifiably relied on them and did spend a fair amount of time competing as the rules stated. I am not the only one. For over 9 days I have believed I was in after the TT ended. I just think it is a bit rude to have not even contacted us to discuss the situation.

Like I said I do not want to take anything away from those of you that qualified. It is an awesome experience. Cherish it, and work really hard for it if you want it!

- hopefully I am jumping the gun, and maybe I was sent something and it went to my junk folder.

I just got mine as well. I was one of the underage contestants, so I don't need to fill it out. (I'm 17 sadly)... but in case they run future GT Academies, what is the stuff at the bottom about receiving a Tax Form (1099) and having to get this thing notarized and contacting a financial adviser upon receiving the prize? For someone who has never had to do any hard paperwork other than tax returns, I have no idea how the notary process works.

Maybe an explanation from someone who's been there before? Thanks!

They tend to go overboard with that stuff in order to keep all of their processes air-tight legalwise. Although it'll be "advisable" to have an accountant look over your stuff after winning, it's not necessary.

You have to fill out a tax form 'cause you're receiving prizes, or awards, valued at more than $600 (which is the point where the IRS mandates the "sponsors" (Sony/Nissan in this case] must report that they're giving you the prizes so it shows up on your taxes the next year.

And yes, this is just for Nationals. You fill out a whole other one if you go to Silverstone.

Most of it is just your run-of-the-mill generic prize winning legalese. Same rules, reg's, conditions, and processes apply to sweepstakes, lotteries, radio giveaways, etc.

You'll find out all about that type of stuff as you grow up, definitely not anything exciting, lol, besides winning stuff.

Notarization is pretty much just "we gotta have an official person see you sign this and stamp it so we know it's a legit original and date and you're not just sending us a copy or forge."

The "official" person is a notary. This is usually a part-time job most people can get certified with in order to notarize documents. Usually people that work at banks or law offices take up training in order to be able to do it on the side, where their main jobs are elsewhere in the company/establishment.

It's easy to find a notary these days. UPS stores have most of their main employees or manager gain notary status, bankers etc. There's "on the go" notaries that work privately and can notarize 24/7, but they charge more obviously.

And now, no one can ever ask this question again.

A notary is someone that verifies that the person signing the form is indeed you ... By verifying your ID. They can be located at your local bank, etc.

The 1099 is a tax form. Sony/Nissan will be sending the finalists a 1099 for the value of the prize. The 1099 is also provided to the IRS. You are responsible for the state/federal taxes due as if the value of the prize is income.

This sucks. I guess I didn't make the cut after all. I finished 2 spots behind you (46th ) and I didn't get an email. I double checked and verified all my contact info was in order... :(

Congrats anyhow guys :)

Just wait, they still have to confirm and deny certain people (couple we probably don't know about) so you could still get in, keep an eye out for an email.

Yea I bet your still in smeadow. Its gonna take a few days for them to realize that the younger guys and canadians don't plan to submit paperwork.

I was thinking that... I know king best jr said he couldn't make it if so and my buddy Glenn McGee can't either so I might be ok. Have any previous silver stone finalists got an email or even past national finalists?

Still haven't received mine yet either. We both live in tampa so maybe they are just slacking on us Floridians...

Even though nothing was in the contest rules, I expected it to be the same as previous years with guys that already went to Silverstone not being eligible. However, they should have stated so, so that it was clear who was and wasn't eligible.

No Silverstone Finalasts have received emails yet...that I know of at least. You may be good to go.

To the guys who got the email. Does it state exactly how many days it is? I need to go ahead and take time off from work if so...

You'll definitely need Friday the 23rd. Not sure about Monday the 26th, that's probably travel dependent.

since past finalists arent allowed, the cutoff should be at around ~47 or ~48. Theres alot of duplicate accounts, underage, canadians, finalists. and some people won't accept the prize either, or have previous obligations

The form states a three night stay so I'd at least take both a Friday and Monday off.

I think it is thurs, fri, sat night. it said starts on the 23rd, I don't see why they would fly us there the same day if stay fri, sat, sun night.

Im assuming to take thurs and fri off.

Does anyone know how long Silverstone will take if we make it? I only have a week paid vacation...
