I think the new format provides too much chance. It basically comes down to the best four guys, and which can do best at Homestead. I'm predicting that the last four guys will be Earnhardt, Gordon, Keselowski and Harvick.

I think that once the chase begins the champion should be determined by the number wins they have in the chase, or top 5's or top 10's in the chase.

As long as you can win 1 out of the 3 races per round, it doesn't matter how you do the other 2 races. Especially the final round, if you can win Martinsville, Texas or Phoenix as apart of the final 8, then you guarantee yourself a 25% chance at the championship

I have one better, how about the driver with the most points during the Chase if they keep it? 💡 Also, a 25 point bonus should be awarded to the "regular season" leader.

I'm really hoping the final 4 will be Kurt Busch, Almirola, and 2 guys who didn't win a race just for a good laugh

I'd really laugh if Kyle Larson or Austin Dillion win the championship if they make it in. It would be funnier if Jr., JJ, JG, and KB all are the first to get knocked out along with one of the two rookies winning it all.

How about a JJ, JG, JR, and KK final 4?

But I really want Carl to win so all the people talking about how crappy Roush is get trolled

I said that because of all of the possible scenarios that would make NASCAR scrap the Chase. Realistically, one of the the three aforementioned Hendrick drivers will probably make it to the final four. I'm also going to bank on one of the Penske drivers making it too.

If I had to guess the final 4, I'd say JR, Brad K, Harvick, and Jeff. I want Jeff to win a 5th to prove that he can still win a championship, but I want to pull for JR too because he hasn't won one yet.

That would be funny. for 5 minutes. Unless Larson wins the whole thing. But still; 88 or 48 all the way.

My dream final 4 (gah-lee that sounds weird) would be Johnson, Junior, Larson, Harvick (as the "villain" whom I can go ballistic on whenever he passes anybody) with Junior taking it all

not gonna lie, that was why him winning Sonoma was one of the worst moments of the season for me. I hope he never gets a championship til he's nearly Mark Martin's age

I think Carl Edwards is a very good driver stuck with a bad team. Kenseth greatly improved when he went from Roush to JGR, and now there have been rumors that JGR is building a fourth team and might get Edwards.

Now if they could only make their cars reliable...

Boris Said in the 32 for Watkins Glen. I guess his rib injury has improved significantly. Nelson Piquet Jr in the 77 making his Sprint Cup debut as well. 43 cars entered.

My initial assumptions say Danica 2.0 .
EDIT: On second thought, she might manage to do worse than Danica. At least Danica could do well in IndyCar. Maybe she'd be better off running sports cars again since she managed to find a little success there.

Duno is notorious for being a moving chicane. She was that way in sportscars and Indycars. Pretty sure she's the only driver to be suspended from Indycar due to not driving fast enough.

I didn't even know that was possible in any racing series at all.

WTF is wrong with Venezuela? Is there that little to pull for that SHE is granted generous support? Isn't there a world class futbol team there? Why do they support her, and why do they do so while she competes in a country they hate? Why must I ask so many dumb questions?

They have excessive money from oil, and an overbloated national pride for their drivers.

Plus they expect everyone to be the next Juan Pablo Montoya.

Also, they fund Pastor Maldonado.

Venezuela does it to promote their currency I believe, but the government is so corrupt that everyone and their brother's best friend's cousin can get support. I think something like 70% of the cars racing the 12 hours of Sebring in 2012 had the Venezuelan government somewhere on the car

Last Row Joe showing his age.
And Kasey Kahne showing his rage.
From nascar.com: Each driver blamed the other over team radio communications, but Nemechek's tone seemed to indicate that he was filing the incident in his memory banks for possible payback later: "I hope he gets in the Chase and remembers that."

KK: "I don't know who that guy is or what he's thinking. ... Tell him to park it. Tell his spotter to park that piece of (expletive)."

"Hey, my tire is going down, I think I'm going to go into turn 2 as hard as I possibly can"- Danica
LMAO!

Trivia fun, who's better?

driver A: 68 Cup races, best finish 7th, 3 Top 10's, 16 Top 20's. 0 Nationwide or Trucks wins.

driver B: 42 Cup races, best finish 4th, 4 Top 10's, 11 Top 20's (projected to 68 is almost 18!). 1 Nationwide win, 8 Trucks wins, 8 K&N Pro wins.

Hint: driver A has a full time Cup ride in an elite team. Driver B is a Nationwide driver.

Another great reason to remove the splitters and get the cars up off the ground. Aero loose wouldn't exist nearly as much with cars that looked more like their street car counterparts.
I agree with you, but seeing the track records going down, which probably makes new qualifying a big success, I don't think that will happen.

Danica 2.0

Why was Johnson the only one to run into tires troubles, so early too?
Is he to be believed when he says "wasn't tire pressures" ?
ETA: minimum recommended inflation was just 12psi on the left side, he blew his left rear twice
I called it... Jimmie's so full of it!

Could NASCAR require tire pressure sensors? At several tracks this season, teams have experienced issues with tire failures - and [Jimmie Johnson] certainly hasn't been immune to those issues. At New Hampshire two weeks ago, the # 48 had two left-rear tires failures in the first 11 laps, the second of which put him out of the race. Although Johnson protested, "I can promise you one thing, it wasn't due to low left rear tire pressure," Goodyear had a different diagnosis after examining the tires. As was the case with #22-Joey Logano and #43-Aric Almirola earlier in the weekend, Goodyear believed the tire failures were due to low air pressure. Each week Goodyear makes minimum air pressure recommendations. But teams don't always adhere to the numbers.
So if the teams don't follow the suggested minimum air pressures, how does Goodyear protect itself against the negative publicity when a driver has a blowout? How about a tire sensor to discourage teams from fudging on their numbers? "We've talked to NASCAR about different things like that," Greg Stucker, director of race tire sales for Goodyear, told Motorsport.com. "We worked on those on and off for several years, but it's come more to the forefront in our discussions with how they're looking at their new officiating. But no decisions have been made whether or not we're moving forward on that. We're doing research and trying to figure out what our options might be in a situation like that, but nothing for sure." Stucker says a tire pressure monitor on a race car would use the same technology to report psi "no different than what you see on your street car these days."(Motorsport)(8-5-2014)

I just learned a week or so ago that before Edmonton 2010, she had been officially warned by IndyCar about her driving and told to improve or leave.

Her response? Spun off early on, lap 2 was it?, and retired.

I noticed that she hasn't done any ARCA racing. Maybe they too told her off.

On a few occasions also told by Indycar to speed up or be parked. EDIT She has got an ARCA pole actually...
