Yay, another name change! I still call it the Busch Series more often than not. ![LOL  ](/wp-content/themes/gtp16/images/smilies/lol.svg?v=3)
Because they need money to pay the race purses and championship purses.I don't why they have to have a title sponsor. What would have been wrong about going with "Grand National Series" or something? Its at least close to its original name.
My guess is that it has something to do with why racecars first ever got a sponsorship way back in the day: business and profit for that business.I don't understand why they have to have a title sponsor. What would have been wrong about going with "Grand National Series" or something? Its at least close to its original name.
Fine, I get that. Just sorta gets tiring with these name changes.
BTW, it just got real at TSM:

Its an interesting read. Regarding the Nationwide portion, I was so convinced that Dollar General went just because the lack of Cup drivers but it looks like it was much more (even when they bought out Braun Racing's shops).
I will say a few things on 2 topics here. Turner seems to be a dick in terms of how he is handling this if this is all true, and I gained ALOT of respect for Scott if he pushes to keep them open regardless. They might have been a great place at one point but I hate to lose the trucks out of that stable. It seems the truck series can't catch a break, as much as I like the new trucks I think it was a bad move and lowering cost or raising purse money would been better concept.

Hornaday not racing Trucks this Saturday, he apparently was laid off, along with a bunch of TSM employees. There seems to be a rift between both TSM owners Steve Turner and Harry Scott (owner of HSM, team that fields #51 in Cup), Turner having supposedly not paid debts.
Statement from Harry Scott Jr. Regarding Turner Scott Motorsports: "Turner Scott Motorsports remains in operation and will compete in this weekend's NASCAR events. TSM's NASCAR Nationwide Series race teams represented by the #42 driven by Kyle Larson and the #31 driven by Dylan Kwasniewski will complete this weekend as scheduled at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
"The #31 driven by Ben Kennedy and the #32 driven by Cameron Hayley in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will compete as scheduled at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this coming Sunday.
"My investment company, a co-owner of TSM, will continue to do all that it can to keep the team moving forward with or without our business partner Steve Turner. To all TSM employees, sponsors, partners and fans I pledge we will continue to do what we can to keep the teams racing hard each and every week of the season."(Tuckahoe Strategies)(8-27-2014)
UPDATE 3: Another noteworthy item is that Ron Hornaday, Jr.'s #30 team was not mentioned in Scott's statement, meaning the veteran driver who currently sits fourth in the championship standings will likely be sitting on the sidelines for this weekend's events at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. That's because Steve Turner, not Scott was actually funding Hornaday's ride out of his own pocket. According to several sources, Rheem was on the truck only for show, with no additional funding getting injected into the program. One source explicitly stated Rheem's presence on the #30 was a thank you to the company for backing James Buescher, Turner's son-in-law. Turner is good friends with several within that company and had brokered an opportunity for the CEO's son, Brandon Jones, who was driving a part-time Truck schedule for TSM. Based on previous conversations with Scott, within his driver diary for Frontstretch it's likely he has little, if any, involvement with the #30 team. Stretching finances, in that way appears to have stretched at least Turner a little thin. Sources on the team indicated that there have been issues where crew members had either not received their paychecks or had checks delayed multiple days. (Frontstretch.com)(8-28-2014)
UPDATE 4: Scott, according to documents obtained by Sporting News, filed a notice of suit Wednesday in North Carolina Superior Court by asking for an extension of time to file a complaint against Turner. He has 20 days to file the suit. The extension of time alleges that Turner has allowed the team's funds to be depleted and left debts unpaid, that Turner did not fund the entries as he was obligated to that "he unilaterally chose to operate through TSM," and that Turner misapplied the sponsorship funds and revenues of the Nationwide and truck teams. It states that Scott will ask for the appointment of a receiver to run the team to allow it to continue operations. Scott became a partner with Turner in December 2012 in what was then Turner Motorsports. Last year, Scott bought Phoenix Racing to form HScott Motorsports, which fields a Sprint Cup car for Justin Allgaier. Turner did not respond to an email requesting comment.
What most people don't realize is that sports are more a business than anything. They need money to keep funding the organization and the teams who are a part of it need their own sponsors to pay for them as well. Without the sponsorship money, the sport would collapse in a short period of time.
No.No, it would go back to where it began. Friday & Saturday nights under the lights at your local short tracks with cars at least resembling something you could call "stock" prepared by the guys in their home garages. Of course, it wouldn't be on the tely, you'd have to go out to the track and watch 👍
UPDATE 5:
The legal tussling over Turner Scott Motorsports spreads over two states as co-owner Steve Turner has sued co-owner Harry Scott in Texas court, and Scott has field a notice of complaint in North Carolina court. Turner filed his suit Aug. 11, and Scott filed his paperwork Wednesday after the team announced that Ron Hornaday would not race this weekend in Canada. Hornaday is fourth in the Camping World Truck Series standings. Turner, who seeks more than $3 million in his lawsuit, alleges that he has been forced to lend money to the race team to keep it from defaulting on its bills. It alleges that Scott - who bought 40 percent of the team in 2012 - hasn't taken responsibility for payment to vendors. It alleges that Scott agreed that a $2 million debt to Turner that existed at the time the partnership was formed was to be repaid by the race team, and so far, none of that debt has been repaid. "Scott has refused to approve actions that are necessary and material to the business, leaving the Company unable to operate," the lawsuit states. Turner also asks for a receiver to be appointed to run the company and that Scott be removed from his leadership role in the race team. Scott, in turn, stated in his North Carolina filing that he will ask for a receiver to run the team without Turner. Scott, according to documents obtained by the Sporting News, filed a notice of suit Wednesday by asking for an extension of time to file a complaint against Turner. He has 20 days to file the suit.(Sporting News)(8-29-2014)

If an insanely-popular three-time former series champion won one of the final two races, and needed a waiver to qualify for the Chase (despite STILL being in the top 30), NASCAR would give it to him.
Controversy = ratings = money
And the saga continues:
Its officially out of control now. I really hate it for the employees.
Very true. Albeit there will be privateers in secondhand trucks but no factory presence. Toyota can have the NCWTS manufacturer's trophy now.I don't know about that. As far as I can tell, TSM is THE top Chevy team (especially without RCR around full time) so if they go (Barring no full time return from RCR), that's it for Chevy in the Trucks.
I have a feeling that several employees are jumping ship ASAP before the situation gets even worse. Chevrolet is also in a tight spot (albeit indirectly) since one of its top truck teams may cease to exist, but if TSM folds, someone will probably fill in the void next year. IF the team folds, I think that Hendrick (via Jr. Motorsports) might be the team to do it. However, I'll wait until I hear more updates on the TSM situation before I really start making speculations.
