Hello Fellow Aussies!
This is going to be a long one – haven’t posted in a while but been reading the forums since the GT academy started again.
Good to see some familiar faces from a few years back (@
joshmuggo, @
Carbonfibre, wheelstand, webbo, tepez, warrior to name a few) and some new blood in the mix at the top. Definitely a more competitive bunch this time round.
I had my last good crack at trying to make the nationals yesterday as work gets the better of me for the rest of the comp before I head overseas for a few weeks of work. Hasn’t been the best run, I haven’t used the wheel since the last GT academy 4 years back, my DFGT has been playing up in the last week (I think the belt or bearing is on its way out) and personally not driving the best – my mind isn’t just there. I actually race professional karts (Rotax Max 125cc) but really struggling at the moment and all over the place
Excuses aside
I just don’t have the speed at the moment to make it to the nationals.
Regarding the nationals I am glad the event is just not online racing. I sent a nice (nasty) letter to the group at Sony who looked after the finalist last time expressing my disappoint at the inconsistency on the day, and more importantly how I believed some real life driving and a fitness test was a must before boot camp. I understand you need to be quick online but there had to be some real life driving and some fitness work and it looks like this is the case this time. I have no doubt we will have some top notch Aussies (who can drive a real car as well) now representing us in the UK (not like the last attempt).
My only advice is when the light goes green be ruthless. Learnt this the hard way at my first kart race meet, everyone is nice and friendly (and still keep their cards close to their chest) but in the end no one remembers second place. It’s ruthless at the top
Will definitely browse the forums to see how you all went and watch with envy.
Race Hard, be ruthless, stay safe and more importantly enjoy the ride.
Best of luck and don’t give up – there is always a few tenths to gain!

Hopefully this video from the last national finals keeps you motivated!!
