In the US, presuming you make enough to file, the tax you'll pay depends on how much you make. I'll show an example based on last year's value of the prizes:

Finals - $3,000
Silverstone - $20,000 (estimate)
Total - $23,000

Let's say after factoring in all your deductions and whatnot, you have around $25K before you calculate the tax. Based on last year's tax tables, this is how much you would pay:

11,000 * 15% = 1,650
12,000 * 25% = 3,000
Total = $4,650 Additional Tax

That number is different for everyone but I'd say that's a ballpark figure.
Oh wow that is shady as ****. That's like wheel of fortune contestants paying taxes for the price of the set they are on.

I wonder... who at national finals last year had the lowest ranking on the American leaderboards? It seems like there are a ton of people this year at least who either can't or won't attend... seems like just being in the top 50 gets you a pretty good shot. Maaaybe a little worse than that. I ask because I'm currently #170... and it's easier to think about trimmimg 1 second off my time than 2.

I was the last person to make the cut last year for nationals lol

And...? What were you ranked? ;)

Well that's bad news for me then... you're way faster than me. Kinda knew coming into it this year that I only had a faint shot anyways. Seems so doable to trim that second and a half that I'll need though...

I think around 45-50 but this year is different cut off is going to be 40th
If you want to make it and be safe you need to run 15.5xx

Well, last night I uncovered s change that I can make to my driving technique that should save me a few tenths each in four or five corners. If I can get it down, and then repeat my best lap performance on all the other corners, I could see cutting 1-1.2 seconds or so. That would get me down (assuming I can pull it off) to at best 2:16.0xx... oh well, still worth trying I guess. Maybe I'll get lucky.

Since the Canadians have their own leaderboard, we don't have to take them off the list like in prior years. Otherwise, the list of ineligibles would be much longer.

After watching Tidgney's video and Immortal's new lap last night, I quickly strung together a few great laps. One was on the verge of being magical only for me to screw up Blanchimont so badly, I had to dump the throttle completely. Still beat my prior time but what a dummy I am for throwing away a certain 14.

Ranking update coming.

Edit: Cutoff now at 15.830

SOOOO does anyone know where Canada stands on this tax stuff?

Also Outlaw are you going to put the Canadians in your sheet?

At approximately 2:35 PM, Pacific Daylight Time, someone just took over the number one spot in America.

<--- This guy

All I wanted was a 14 anything and I had been sitting on a 15.010 after thirty minutes. Threw away two great laps at the chicane because of the brakes deciding not to work. Then I had another good go and finally, FINALLY, I kicked that chicane's behind so hard, I bent it to a straight.

Unfortunately, I made myself a bet that If I ever did get a 14, I would play an embarrassing victory song.

I'm walking on sunshine.

Congrats! That is pretty amazing.

Why does your name say 'not going' on the google spreadsheet?

Already went last year. Realized the hard way that winning the competition is unrealistic because I'm well behind everyone in RL experience.

I never find myself blowing Blanchimont. I always get effed by "Rivage" the little 180 deg. right hander before you go left down into Pouhon. That's my cryptonite. But Blanchimont I seems much more consistent if you turn in extremely early, because you get better exit speed.

It's been a few days though, I'll have to throw a few more hours in and see if I can really bang a good one out. Nice time though, Outlaw! 👍

Pretty much have to double apex Rivage by allowing the understeer to carry the car off the first cone. Hopefully, it positions the car just right for a good line for acceleration approaching the second cone. The tough part's not cooking the fronts so much that you push too far out. I'm fairly consistent with it but I wish I could drift through it instead.

Tried a few laps tonight but my wheel wouldn't stay put and it even started meandering from the center. Will try a little more tomorrow.

Nightly update time!

At the rate the cutoff is dropping, I'd say those with a 15.2xx and lower can start getting ready for New York. Other than that, hard to say what the cutoff will actually be - that last chicane is such a game changer.

Finally in the 17's with a 2.17.947 lol. I totally screwed up the chicane too.

I was stuck at mid to high 18's for a long time. I kept watching Tidgney's video and started to figure out how to get on the gas sooner in a couple corners.

The times keep coming down, just gotta keep at it!

Just gave CargoRatt a few tips. Sans video, I'll keep this more generalized:

1. Anyone that does left foot braking should be careful about timing lifting off the gas and subsequent pressing of the brakes. If you have even a sliver of gas when you try stopping the car, the distance grows by a ton. On my fast lap, that's exactly what happened entering La Source. If need be, off the throttle and wait a quarter of a second before slamming the brake. A little time loss, yes, but helpful at heavy zones. Chicane, I'm looking right at you.

2. Turn off you track map and ghosts. For some people, it helps but it can also be a major distraction. Example: I screwed up many potential 14s because I got excited being ahead of my ghost past Stavelot. Then I made :dunce: mistakes at Blanchimont and/or the chicane.

3. If you're lifting off the gas because of late understeer, cut down on the power earlier in the turn. With Spa's long straights, you'll pay for it all the way down the straight to the next corner.

4. I know the GT-R is rather tail happy but wean yourself off the game's traction control. The best TC is your right foot or in my case, my right toe. A little patience reaps great rewards.

 I do the same exact thing! I'll be racing normally then all of a sudden I start curling my toes for throttle control.

I pretty much disappeared the last 5 days since I had to work quite a bit. I've got the next 2 days off and the work load should be a little easier come the weekend so hopefully I can knock my time down into the 14's :)

I know that, I'm just saying just for fun. Because just to show exactly where you are anyways in the whole North American region. :)

lol wth... I'm driving everyday and only improving by a few hundredth to a tenth everyday...

Probably losing the most time in riverage and the following left hander, a little bit left on the table at Pouhon I guess, also out of the last chicane... would've got a .3 if that exit was marginally better lol... a 14 is probably the theoretical perfect lap for me at the moment.. How do you guys get there so quickly?
