Great job with that briefing Matt, really clears things up!

btw was thinking, as we are all driving on post-glitch tires in the race. have there been any testing done to see if the cars are equal with those tires as well? It haven't seemed as much of a problem in the races so far so guess they are pretty similar but would be interesting to see if that changed the balance in some way. (not expecting any work to be done now, just interested to see if anyone have actually tested it. :P)

@memto89 and all other stewards, I know it is not my place to say I do not agree with something you have done as you have all done a great job just to piece this together, but I do think the penalty area is in a dangerous place. It is in a place where cars are trying to accelerate for the straight and with the best communication it is possible that a car behind could miss the warning and an accident is caused. Also when the offending car has completed their penalty their pulling back on track could be dangerous to cars that are coming through the last corner (especially if they wish to enter the pit lane)

Could I suggest a different and safer place to take a penalty?
Before you answer I am going to anyway, if you disagree then that is your call as the race organizers.

Not the best picture to show where I am talking about but the best I could find :(
If you look at the end of the pit wall there is a piece of tarmac that is neither track or pit lane.
IMO I think this is a better place to take a penalty as the car can move off the racing line before slowing into the penalty area, then the car could follow the pit exit when rejoining the track making the penalty area safer for all.

Sorry to put my ore in with my 2 cents and whatever you decide doesn't matter as the race will be great either way :D
Can't wait

Can you get in to that place directly after a pit stop? Otherwise it won't work. We need a place where you can take penalty and pit on the same lap.

Yes you can come out the pit lane and get there, you need to get on the brakes quickly as you are given control but it can be done (I have done so in many practice sessions)

Honestly... no... its far to late to change anything now and it takes hours of reworking, this was all brought up in a group testing session and everyone agreed on the place it is now.. sorry to be so blunt but I'm not putting hours of work into something only to have to re do it and re inform everyone again

With the level of driving I have seen so far I'm sure we can, especially if drivers are given a heads up from other team members 👍

(maybe an idea for next year ;) )

I totally understand mate, drivers will just have to be careful :D

Yes the position for the penalty box is not idealbut I was in the lobby when alternatives were discussed and taking into account the point Niko made about being able to serve a penalty AND pit on the same lap, what we have is the best we can right now.

As Mikey said above, the key will be communication between Driver and the Comms Manager (whoever is monitoring the Stewards Skype messages) at that time so your driver gets advance warning of an impending penalty, or the position of a car already in the penalty box.

From what I've seen, relative ultimate performance between cars has not changed. It's more a case of all the cars being slower after a pit, and different wear characteristics of the tyres after the first pit. Before the glitch we were considering mixed compounds because our car naturally wears it's front more than the rears, but post glitch that has evened out. I believe the R8 had similar issues because I remember them running RM/RS in the early tests, and I'm sure seeing all cars are RWD, others will have noticed similar.

Either way it clearly too late to start re balancing cars now. Who knows, we might even get another patch in the next few days........ (I hope to God not!)

Yeah I think they actually are pretty even still just haven't tested it. It just totally changes the behaviour of the car so you have to change the set up. After changing set ups to fit the different behaviour they are probably pretty even again. ^^

Well not quite even, I have tested our car in race mode and after pit stop and tyres on BMW are in pretty bad condition after just 3 laps.

I know that setup is playing huge role in all car aspects, however after three months of testing, changing, testing, changing......... I give up. After all it's still gonna be a great fun and run

How many people are available sunday evening GMT... I need some footage of a pace lap and a racing start... It shouldn't take long but it would be great if i could get someone from every team there so that I have 9 teams and 1 pace car

Any more spaces for teams?

I could't answer if new teams are still being allowed to join at such late notice, but just to check, you realize the race is exactly 1 week away and you need a team of 3 drivers that can all race from the same location for 24 hours?

I can answer that for you. No, you had to participate in at least one of the VLN-races to be eligible for the 24 hour race. So sorry too late for this year. (and also.. less than one week until the race.. we wouldn't want anyone to be that unprepared. :P)

I didn't think so, but didn't want to say just in case I was wrong :D and no need to be more prepared than that :sly:

It would certainly make it interesting, having a completely untested team at the back of the grid. If we're lucky they dive bomb in to the first turn and half the field get damage. :P (not saying you're like that sniper, just that it's risky ^^ )

What time do you plan to do this?

I think it would be easy to tell people "go here instead of here." I agree that the current penalty area is a dangerous spot.

I'm unavailable on Sunday, someone else will have to pace that.
