no aids, no abs, just applying what I've learned from the fine racers here in round 1.

I expect to shave a full sec in my next attempt at it, for another hour. I'll leave it at that, I'm playing outside this shortened summer.

I don't know how you DS3 guys manage to get around so quick, maybe because I haven't played on one since I got a wheel. My best is 1:37.03x, but certainly not the best I can do. Going to try again tonight to get down to the 1:36's

Just put in a 1:35:134
struggling a little with that cone chicane and last corner. I think a 34:999 will be my absolute limit.
I'll give it another try tonight.

Just watched a few of the top 10 replays and see people using the handbrake again. People seem to be dependent on the use of the handbrake to set their fastest lap times which is fine in the game I guess, but you are going to be completely clueless when, in real life, you have to negotiate a track in real life without using it. What do you think that driving instructor is going to say the first time you reach for that handbrake to get the car to rotate around a corner. :lol:My point here is this. I think in an official competition like this where you want to develop good and proper driving techniques, the use of the handbrake should be prohibited. I know there is probably no way to prohibit the use of the handbrake, but if there is a way, I think it should be done. If you are really serious about this competition and becoming a real life driver, you are only hurting yourself by not developing proper cornering technique by using the handbrake. Just my feelings on the matter.

I just do 1 lap for gold, and forget it , only wanted the money for my replica and tuning expenses. The Z34 is very easy to drive, love it if only for 1 minute and something

this game is definitely DS3 friendly to a forgiving degree, if I tried those lines from replays with a wheel, where the car just magically re-aligns itself all over the track regardless of G at Apex location, well, we all know how that goes for wheel users. It's a tradeoff we have to accept to please most I suppose.

What? The second half isn't too bad, slightly exaggerated because I doubt any of the top guys are stupid enough to use the handbrake IRL just because it works on GT6 every now and then. But how did you come to the conclusion in the first half that they were dependant on the handbrake, and that they would be clueless when it comes to driving IRL? I mean, what are they doing for the vast majority of corners where the handbrake is useless?

I don't see an issue with using handbrake. Sure, it's '"unrealistic". But this is still just a video game. You're only hurting yourselves in the end if you don't take advantage of the slightly faulty physics engine. And I'm pretty sure there are challenges at race camp that highly recommend that you use a bit of handbrake. ;)

LMAO, thanks for the laughs. What next, banning the use of a DS3 because in real life, cars don't (at least typically) have a controller in place of a wheel?

Pardon me then for speaking my mind, it won't happen again since I'm the one who seems to be clueless. I forgot that since I'm not an elite top driver, my opinions/thoughts mean nothing. Again, my apologies, I'll just keep my dumbass thoughts to myself. Carry on.

@Carbonox Again, my apologies for speaking my thoughts. Its plain to see that I clearly don't have any business being here in this thread amongst all of you, I'm clearly out of my league here. Again, please accept my apologies, it won't happen again.

@Doodle Yes, I have no clue as to what I am talking about...your points are duly noted. I just seemed to have a moment of temporary insanity here in thinking I could voice my opinions amongst the elite of the game. I'll stay amongst the noobs where I belong.

Interestingly, I think the only time we used the handbrake was when we were pulling away from the line ;)

I have always thought that too.

I must admit I'm personally against the use of the handbrake (As I've mentioned in the past), and I have nothing against those that do either. My opinion is that if you are using it to gain a big advantage then to me if you get rank 1 and rank 2 hasn't used it then the better lap in my eyes is the rank 2. I also think if it gets a substantial advantage it should be banned. However if there's no advantage and your using it for technique or consistency then it doesn't bother me that much, last years final round at Luffield was a good example when some were using it mid corner others weren't either way was equal, in that situation it's all fair.

I personally don't like to use it because I feel that if I can control the car with the pedals and steering in a way I like, or I feel is just as fast then I think it helps me more in real life. Yes, things are a little extreme in GT6, but it still doesn't mean you have to abuse these to get the fastest times! In fact you could develop your smoother pedal or steering control, or adapt to what you have, like in real life.

Whatever driving style you like to use, you should generally use or drive how you like to drive! But you should have self improvement in your mind over any rank 1 cause!

Do enjoy GT Academy though however you can, it's a good competition!

I'm finding consistency difficult here. Getting the weight transfer wrong in the first few turns loses you a tonne of time. All the time I'm losing is in the first and last sectors.

Hey fellow iRacer, this is Curtis Fung
How are you finding the transition between the 2?

@GTP_CargoRatt , it's not a matter of elite or noobs, any opinion is respectable, I was thinking like you but I changed my mind.

For sure the use of the handbrake is unrealistic in GT6, as unrealistic as the tire behaviour, ABS, no ABS, active steering, SRF and a lot of other things in this game, if you use the handbrake in GT6 that won't deteriorate nor improve your skills in real life.

Do you want realism? Practicing in a real track makes the trick.

If a player achieves to go to the race camp and doesn't have real life experience in a track, his chances to succeed are near zero, the use of the handbrake in game becomes irrelevant, use whatever you want or needed for your purposes.

The whole thing of GT Academy is pure marketing and a great opportunity to become a real racer, where there are half truths in the process, the use of a dualshock (seen in GT Academy advertisements) likely won't lead you to a national final, and if that's the case you won't succeed there, because steering wheel is mandatory for the presential tests.

I'm beginning to ramble, better I stop here. :D
