It's so annoying looking back at what Spurs were poor at this season. Conceding set-pieces was one but more importantly not closing out wins. 4 points from WBA and Arsenal when it could have been 12. Losing leads to Stoke, Leicester and Newcastle. Not being able to get a win against Liverpool or Chelsea. Next season they have got to be better, but I believe.
If Spurs fail to win the title next season, one of the following will have happened:
Something has gone wrong (player sale, loss of form, Poch leaves etc)
Man City buy half the world and become really really good.
Before the season I thought they'd finish 5th.(also had Chelsea as champions lol) Looking at it from that perspective, I can't be too disappointed. I thought Lamela would be playing for Inter Milan, that Dier will be on the subs bench, that Dembele wouldn't be used, that Alli would be on loan to some bottom of the table team and that having just one striker would be fatal to our chances of top 4.
Expectations have been exceeded this season and Poch has the fans believing again. I have never seen Spurs in such a strong position, even when we had superstars like Bale and Modric. This is without doubt the strongest Spurs team I've ever seen and probably the best manager too.
Having 9 players booked shouldn't happen again, I think it came down from the manager not really having control of his emotions influencing a young group of players. I would like an internal review of tonight's game regarding discipline so it doesn't happen again. It's not a good image to project to all the casual fans watching tonight that haven't watch Spurs play all season, as that wasn't Spurs tonight. Spurs play with intensity, but they don't run around the field knocking lumps out of their opponents, even if it is Chelsea. There's a reason why we haven't given away a red card this season,(should have been about 4 tonight though) and that's because they usually keep their discipline in check, even if they concede a lot of fouls naturally through their style of play. I don't want to dwell on this further as the last two games are not what Spurs are about and hopefully won't be about in the future.
The dream is over for this season, but we will be back. Ever since I started following Spurs at age 9 I've seen a certain quote from Bill Nicholson, a man who dedicated his whole life to Spurs, first as a player and then as our most successful manager. As I've only ever seen them either toil in mediocrity or finish 4th-7th I've never felt that it has been applicable to 21st century Tottenham, until last Monday night after the WBA game...
This season has an echo of glory about it and honestly, I've never been prouder to be a Spurs fan.
