2016 Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand PrixFormula 1

I only watched this race because it was near the start of the race when I woke up and checked what was on. I didn't bother watching the last two races. Did I miss anything interesting?

It all happened in a space of 5 laps, Nico "passing" Kimi, Dan not letting Max past, Lewis's engine goes.

Conspiracy? Really?

So let me get this straight - Mercedes throw away the race win and WCC crown at their second "home" event for the sake of the guy sitting in fifth place by finely-tuning Hamilton's engine to explode?

I didn't get to watch the race, but this quote from Lewis caught my eye.

"I just can't believe that there's eight Mercedes cars and only my engines are the ones that have gone this way," he said. "Something just doesn't feel right.

"It was a brand new engine... it's just odd. There's been like 43 engines for Mercedes and only mine have gone."

Wow Lewis... Pouring fuel on the conspiracy fire because you can't deal with the fact that sometimes life isn't fair.

Good to see Ricciardo get this one. Who would've thought that fierce fight defending his position from Max was going to be the race winning move?

I don't want to say the drivers' championship has been decided but only way I could see Rosberg losing the WDC is either through mechanical maladies or choking it away. At this juncture, I don't see either happening.

There are people who will see a conspiracy in everything. And no matter how dumb their "theories" are there will always people agreeing with them.

Nico to his psychologist: "The trick is to have Lewis have bad luck in the early part of the year and toward the end, that's how I'll get WDC! Do you know a local witch doctor?"

yea thats pretty crazy, he clearly was choosing his words carefully and he was saying THAT. Maybe he thinks fan pressure will make Mercedes give him concessions if there are any to be given.

Wow - If Lewis continues to bad mouth Mercedes I can see him not getting a Christmas Card from Stuttgart

So will Hamilton have to take a grid penalty or has he still got a fresh power unit from Spa?

He still has good ones. They took five engines from their account

Ryk

He'll get an angry one for sure, I mean while I think it's hilarious in some regards considering he's only got 2 WDC from said team. I do understand his emotional tirade due to (contrary to some) actually wanting to win. He may have equaled Senna but I think he wouldn't be a good champion if he didn't want to win more because of the egos they all have.

However, when he does come down from this, I hope he actually thinks about his comments because yet again...team gave you 2 WDC, yes you had to work for them, one more than the other but still.

Hamilton pretty much flat out said he suspect his own team of conspiring against him.
It's not the first time he's done it, either. Remember how he questioned the wisdom of swapping the mechanics about? He knew exactly what would happen - the fans and the media would pick up on it and put pressure on the team, and sure enough, that's exactly what happened. When was the last time a team was forced to publicly defend a decision like that? And now here, the fans and media immediately picked up on Hamilton's comments about always receiving bad luck.

The question is whether he has enough good ones to see out the season. He took three brand-new engines in Spa with the expectation of seeing out the season, and now he has to do five races with two power units.

You mean how they do with any driver that makes claims. Like how people bad mouth Ferrari over Alonso getting crap and to extent Vettel. I mean sure Alonso was the only one to ever question Ferrari's effort but still people will jump to their own conclusions. That doesn't mean that teams hold any obligations to interest doubts of internet nobodies.

Also I'd say Hamilton has had some decent bad luck this season.

That should be enough then, providing his power units don't go the same way as most of his others...

And yet, I am watching Toto Wolff defend the team on Sky as we speak.

It's not ideal because he won't necessarily be able to run flat out. Teams run old engines in free practice, so when the first of those three engines was retired, it would become the FP1 and FP2 engine. Hamilton doesn't have that luxury anymore - his two engines need to do five Grands Prix, five qualifying sessions, and fifteen free practice sessions between them.

And yet, I am watching Toto Wolff defend the team on Sky as we speak.

Which has nothing to do with internet nobodies. A driver just made a claim that all the hard work of dedicated engineers, machinist, and crew is basically for naught. That these people have some secret allegiance to undermining his success so much so that they'd diminish their own in some respect. If I were working for said team and I heard this as a dedicated worker, I'd be looking online that day or the next to see who on the grid has openings for new employment. So yes I expect him to defend his team minus Lewis (who I am a fan of) in light of his remarks. It has nothing to do with this childish notion that the internet some how predicates team operation

The conspiracy claims on the teams facebook page are ridiculous. How can people even believe in something like that?
The team itself surely doesn't even care which of their two drivers wins the title, as long as they win both titles at the end of the season.

People saying the championship is over already? there is still 5 races, not even close to being done.

According to my terrible math Nico needs to win one and finish second 4 times to win the title, but need someone to check that.
