People looking at the 3, will be looking at the CX-3. The 2.5 is the only thing it has over the 3. A triple black(black on black w/black leather) 3 SP25GT hatch looks upscale. The diesel hatch with its red grill looks even more so. But the 2 nterior is just so right in the CX-3 with leather seats. Plus the theatre seating in the CX-3 is a definite plus over the 3.

What?

For me I don't see a drastic difference to support the claim that the 3 looks terribly outdated. The vents in the 2 are nice and the little leather trim in the dash is nice. But why not compare it to a 3 with the leatherette at least?
Well the 2 doesn't have it so whats the issue, it also doesn't have the Optional Armrest.

Trust me the 2 feels higher quality inside as well.

Thats a SP25 vs a Genki interior, in Australia thats about a 10k difference.

I guess I'd have to sit inside it to understand. Is Genki a trim level? I'm used to the US trims like i Sport/Touring/Grand Touring or s Sport/Touring/Grand Touring

Genki is the top trim in Australia.

However we lack the option of Leather seats and HID/LED lights.

Oh I see. i trimmed 3s get the 2.0 while s trimmed 3s get the 2.5L. Sport being cloth, manual, little to no options while grand touring is obviously the optioned out one. But mind you it gets a little complicated like the iGrand Touring has leatherette instead of real leather and non hid lights while the sGrand Touring does.

personally would rather cloth then the fake leather Mazda uses, I know the Astina here is basically the same as the sGrandtouring you guys get and that has much better leather, but that is a seriously expensive car by that point and almost the same price as a Golf GTI.

Golf GTi is more here. A s Grand Touring starts around $24,900. And there's like one option worth getting so around $25-26k.

The Auto does it's job, but I've yet to drive a small car with the shift feel and clutch take up of the 2 and CX-3. The quality of the shifter feels like an upper slass sports car to me.

I sat in the CX-3 as well, and apart from ride height interior wise was identical only difference being its higher end models have more equipment, there is slightly more rear legroom though, the width of the interior is the same but the extra width in dimensions is all exterior gains as the shoulder room was identical.

But I couldn't justify the price difference considering the top Spec 2 is only a bit more then the Base model CX-3.

The 2 is definitely lighter in steering and road feel. Like I mentioned, the choice between the CX-3 and 2 is only about price. Nothing else.

Okay - am I totally missing something?

When exactly did Mazda ever show off the car in the US, let alone 100% say we were getting it? I mean, I know we went over it a few weeks ago with the on/off thing, but seriously, I don't think I've ever seen Mazda USA say anything specifically about the car. This is crazy.
Not sure, their website still lists the current car, and under the "Future Vehicles" section only lists the ND MX-5 Miata.

You guys should get it, especially since its much bigger then the last one(think its the longest Supermini/subcompact hatchback on the market today).

I wouldn't touch the sedan if that is all they end up offering though.

Once I get mine ill set my fuel economy gadge to average out my entire ownerships fuel economy.

They go good for what they are. The manual is better, more fun and actually easier to drive as the auto hunts for gears.
