2017 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand PrixFormula 1

The race starts at 1am EST right? Why does NBC get a whole extra 30 minutes of build up before the actual pre-race coverage on track?

That's a bit much. I just wanna watch the race already. Sucks that Ricciardo changed his gearbox and is starting further back but I guess that accident hitting the rear did some damage to it.

Pat Symonds' diagnosis: when a car rotates, the shark fin interrupts the airflow and stalls the rear wing, pitching the car into a spin.
"Another reason to remove the sharkfins."

Nope. These regulations were designed to make the cars more difficult to drive. Keep them and do something with them.

Not to the point where it produces massive accidents. Remember Grosjean's wipeout in Sochi back in 2015? Or Magnussen's shunt at Eau Rouge last year? Nobody wants to see that happening regularly.

I don't think it will happen regularly as the drivers trained harder in preparation but it has the potential to happen more often than before. We simply won't know until we get a full season of data.

Maybe that explains the v-shaped cutaways on some shark fins.

'Difficult to drive' doesn't have to mean the cars will snap oversteer in an uncontrollable manner. Hard to control with progressive limits is the key to good racing and weeding out inferior talent.

I'm not expecting a good race, at all. I'm expecting limited overtaking, and Mercedes domination. I'll be very surprised if Mercedes doesn't win this race.

The recovery procedure for Ricciardio's car is a bit worrying - the race might not be live but a truck on the track is not a good thing given the speed the drivers take their shakedown lap at.

The Renault engines can use the MGU to restart themselves. Ferrari can do it, and it's believed that Honda can, but they've never had to try. Mercedes, however, can't do it.

I learnt something there, I had no idea that they could do that!

Sky are really struggling with noise during all these interviews...

I'm expecting the start and the first turn to shuffle the field in an unprecedented manner. I'm expecting passing in the midfield all race. I think fatigue will play a factor at the end, no amount of running in practice can simulate the adrenaline of race day.

Ideally Grosjean will hold position, and Magnussen will rocket forward at the start, avoid first turn carnage, and move up into the points.
