Will it be capable of going more FAST than the M6?

I'm already building a collection of "Told you so" images for that occasion.

I know there is BoP and everything, but if there is one thing race teams are universally good at, it's finding things to spend money on.

I too already said this is looking like a mixture of IMSA GTO days and ALMS Penske Porsche/AMR Astons/Acuras. So those stories are easily remember, for the good racing they provided and then not so good racing because of spiraling costs. Not seeing at all how this is different as you too have expressed.

I don't really get what there is to spend money on though, IMSA is taking this formula and homologating it once they're happy with each car.

I think IMSA, especially with the amount of people on the staff who saw or were around the LMP1 downfall, will try to avoid it at all costs. DPi is a formula that can survive I think because of the BoP. Or it's at least a salvageable idea if it does go bonkers. Teams can only work with existing LMP2 chassis, the engines are basically GT3 engines, and the aero is on specific areas not all. I'm not delusional enough to say it's fool proof, nothing in racing is, but I think DPi has a chance to survive because of IMSA. Is there a chance it goes poof in front of us? Sure. But I want to think positive that this isn't a fully open formula (like F1 or LMP1), and that it'll stay stable for at least a decade.

Take this with a grain of salt, Group B rally was supposed to be a stable class and then it went and became the most insane class of rallying ever (and short lived). However, in recent years we've seen several classes defy the curse and survive for a long time and into now (GT3, GT4, LMP2-ish)...so maybe...just maybe...DPi can pull a GT3. BUT AGAIN, don't think I'm saying it will definitely go on forever. I'm not oblivious to the tight rope a class like this walks on.

Development, aero package, engines and so forth. The moment a car is too slow to a manufacture they'll make an effort to homologate something new. They'll find places that aren't homologated to find gains which is usually through massive testing hours and wind tunnel testing. I haven't seen anything that says testing is limited like that of other series that have a prototype or formula based car creation.

Drivers, engineers, pit crews, new parts for every race instead of trying to make them last, etc.

Just look at NASCAR, those cars are as close to spec racing as you can get without actually being spec racing and it's ridiculous how much the top teams spend.

That's what happens when speed is suddenly found out of no where and you win back to back races.
"Yes! We finally figured out how to use this thing!"
*gets massive BoP hit*
"GOD ******!"

What's depressing is they never even sand bagged ever since they debuted this thing last year.

If they had the classes separate, would it be DP and LMP or PD and PLM (going off the two GT classes)?
P and DPI are already 2 separate classes now, DPi gets cops shocks, brakes, springs, and electronics compared to the civilian level of parts on a stock P2. Removing the ties to the P2 car makes it possible for Penske/Oreca and Joest/Mazda to build a new prototype with only the P2 tub the same as a Oreca 07 or Riley. This wont hurt Cadillac much because they are already using Indycar parts on their chassis, but Nissan might need to up their investment.

Didn't RLL focus on the car whilst other GTLM teams focused on Le Mans? I think that explains why BMW suddenly found some speed.

No it doesn't, because the ACO BoP is different and the preparation and overall end result is different. So in reality when they got back all they had to do was go over notes from the prior year, return to the IMSA BoP spec on their cars and then race. I think BMW always had that speed, never really were able to unlock it until recently for some reason, and now they're up in the thick of it all of a sudden.

Probably the tires. Remember how last year at Laguna Seca Michelin brought the enduro tires and the M6's were slower than some GTD's? A single case, but I think overall they were struggling with the Michelin tires potentially. The M6 as a GTE (fake GTE) wasn't handling them well and it took some R&D time to get the setup right and to the point where the car worked.

So it's being broadcast on FS2 (which nobody really has) then tape delayed on FS1. I was looking for it on Sunday to DVR it and couldn't find it. Then I searched by name and found it being broadcast at 1:30 am- 4:30 am EST...in the middle of the night. So I went to Sunday's FS1 tv lineup to see what was so much more important... apparently UFC Reloaded, which is replaying a fight that happened a full month ago. Wow. Bad enough the tiny exposure on FS2, and that it's going to re air tape delayed on FS1, but they put it in a timeslot during the middle of the night and instead air a replay of a UFC fight from over a month ago during the 2pm-5pm middle of the day timeslot. Great job Fox.

BMW found their pace at COTA in May. They were .5 sec behind the fastest ideal lap time at Sebring and were given a increase of boost at LB and that gap was down to .3 sec.
Fastest at COTA by .097
2nd at the Glen by .225
2nd at Mosport by .017
2nd at Lime Rock by .073.
Other than a couple of minor changes to the refueling restrictors the BOP has been the same in the GTLM class from Long Beach until this weekend.

Track temps at LB were low and much higher at all of the other rounds so that sounds like the tires working better to me.

Race is starting on the IMSA TV, it says Next Up GTLM Class. Is there gonna be a GTLM race and then a GTD race? This is one of those non-prototype races right?

Nevermind, right now is the Continental race, two hours.

I also love how they did that instead of putting on the main over-the-air Fox channels that are running nothing but stupid tabloid shows and reruns of Judge Judy to boot during the race's time slot. UFC Fight Night starts at 6 on the main channels. Now I get that the UFC is a good ratings draw (especially if there are good headline fights scheduled) and rightly deserves to be on the local channels, but Fox in typical Fox fashion blew a spectacular chance to bring in a lot of potential fans that would be tuning in early to watch the prelims and thus would probably catch the end of the race. After all, what better lead-in can you get for a UFC bout than a sports car race likened to a fistfight itself by the drivers? Like I just said, Fox KO'ed a killer chance to really try and add new fans with blunder.

Katherine Legge is uh...having one of "those" days today? :odd: The incident where she turned the #16 was a combination of them both...but she just punted the #75 now. Somebody hand her a Snickers or something. Maybe a beer when she gets out of the car...
