What do you guys think of this if it's even real?

These things that have been suggested or hinted at over the last week could all be good things if Nascar did them properly, but they're incapable of doing things properly so they'll be crap. I really hope that by the 5th race of the season there's like maybe 1000 people showing up to races and almost no viewership because this is getting unbearable if all is true.

It's like NASCAR is trying to make the most convoluted sports format possible.

Somebody should introduce NASCAR to KISS.

Not what I've heard

Have you heard whether they will or won't reward drivers for regular season wins rather than eliminating them from a round of the Chase based on that round Chase performance like the way Truex was eliminated last year?

Everything is up in the air at this point.
To give you an idea of what ideas are being thrown out there, a subject begining in "cautio" and ends in "-locks" has been brought up for Cup

I'd find Denny Hamlin winning 15 races in one season more believable than Jr. actually winning the Championship.

That'd make sense if Junior actually ran horribly, but he's always been a consistent top 5 and top 10 finisher for the past 4 years. And even doing as good or better than the champion winner in those seasons. So him winning isn't that far fetched, it's like any driver trying to win a first or second championship that frequently has been in the chase, you need a bit of luck

I'll give him credit, since 2013, he's been running decent. Good for him, he deserves it. He's ran well. Unfortunately, well doesn't cut it in today's game. People look at Jr and think "Hey, we're at Daytona/Talladega. He might be in contention!" Shift focus to his teammates, Jimmie Johnson, and you see that he's almost always a threat to win every week. Everyone complains when he wins the Championship, but that goes to show how competitive he is, for 36 weeks out of the year.

Jr's had some great runs the past few year. I'm not a huge fan of him, probably mainly because of the mass cult-following he has, but in 2013, to see him win four races that year, that felt good. It's like the underdog finally breaking through. But unless he's having a day where he could win, he's running somewhere between tenth and fifteenth, and compaired to the other half of Hendrick (Elliott, Johnson. Sorry Kasey...), Penske, Gibbs, and SHR, that simply isn't going to cut it.

Great to see him running well, and having fun, but with the amount of talent out there, and arguably his own health, I don't see a Championship happening for Junebug.

Really...because I haven't heard that since about 2009. When I watch races the places people say he has the potential to win are the plate tracks, Texas, Michigan, Pocono and the short tracks like Martinsville and Bristol. He's got a few places people know or expect him to run well at.

As for your analysis the guy runs an avg of about 10 or 11th for the past four years. There are very few times he is out of it, and even the road courses his weakest spot has improved greatly over the years. So your overall end point doesn't hold water, cause he's at times been the best Hendrick driver or second best and runs quite well pre-chase season, as I said he seems to not be able to connect it together in the chase, which is where as I said sometimes you need luck. Even the best driver doesn't win the chase.

As for Championship, who knows what will happen

Re: Heats and Features.

If NASCAR wanted to implement this correctly, they just have to look at the Argentinian Turismo Carretera series. Over the course of a single day they run group qualifying, which sets the heat race lineups. The heat races in TC are 5 laps each, which would have to be lengthened for oval events, and the results of those heat races set the grid for the main. In TC the mains at each tracks are ~25 laps, which obviously you could extend to 100-150 for the intermediate/2.0mi tracks on the calendar, and 200 laps for the short tracks.

NASCAR will see your suggestion, toss it out and implement one that is even worse.
