I've heard less about the caution clock and more about race segments recently. Imagine ESPN's proposed system from 10 years ago, with cautions and points being awarded at the 25%, 50%, and 75% marks of the race, with double points at the finish
I feel ill now. :yuck: :ill:

Get rid of the idea of throwing the cautions, and this could be... tolerable...

Maybe it's my idiocy, but I read what Ganon posted as NASCAR wants to run every race similar to the All-Star. Personally, I hate it. If I wanted to watch heats and mains, I can go to any dirt track to see it. I think the endurance side of what we have is something that isn't offered regularly.....actually, never mind. Everyone apparently loves sprint cars, so why not copy it and apply it to something vaguely the same.

I'm not going to get caught up in "inside people" speculation and will wait until NASCAR releases the info before I pass judgement but it wouldn't bother me if they ran elimination style races as there is a good number of cars that have no business being out there.

The fields are already shrinking anyways right? How many cars are confirmed to be running the entire season and not just the 500?

Now this would be a great thing. 👍

Isn't it just a lart track usually? lol
Nah, bikes and cars. We've run the roval once with my buddies ministock. The transition back onto the oval from the outfield is the worst.

Fact of the matter is that NASCAR is a grueling sport to follow regularly. The races are hours long and the season is pushing 10 months. People just aren't into that nowadays except diehard NASCAR fans who are used to it. It's very time consuming to follow an entire season. NASCAR is and has been in a predicament for a long time on how to obtain new fans to keep the sport alive and more or less bank on the fact that the diehard fans will not up and leave the sport because of their long time love of the series. You can't continue to stay relevant and keep people's interest by using the same old methods, especially when those methods (The Chase comes to mind), are essentially not welcomed by the die hards. NASCAR is at a crossroads with fans. Some want to go back to the old system, some love the Chase format. I'd be inclined to guess that newer fans actually like the Chase because it makes it interesting and they were never around for the old points format. Bottom line is, NASCAR needs your help. They will never make everyone happy because that's impossible. I feel like more people base their opinions from other people's opinions they either read through social media or NASCAR discussion boards like this one. Change needs to happen. Whatever changes that may be are unknown. IMO, it's not necessarily a bad thing that NASCAR is experimenting with changes. Unless you are ok with NASCAR going belly up and the sport cease to exist, whatever changes deserve at least a chance.

While this may be true, so is NASCAR right now and I think it would be like looking at 2 terrible foods and combining them to find out that while it's really weird and ridiculous it just works.
That's an interesting way to look at it. :P

WAIT, it gets better. Let me Google earth something.....

Yup

Would like to clarify that I don't know if NASCAR is changing to the system I outlined last page, just that I do know that was kind of the template they started with in their discussions

I think that NASCAR's problem is that these decision makers are trying to find a way to alter the original format to get more fans, but that's not really going to work. What they need to do is literally blow away all the current systems, points, tracks, everything except the cars and start over completely.

Here's my manifesto of what NASCAR really should do that could vastly improve interest

1. The season as you said is far too long, it needs to be about 2 months shorter.
2. In shortening the season, any track that has 2 races loses 1, there is no good reason to go to a track twice unless you really want to keep a certain flavour of racing prominent. (Superspeedways)
3. Races are far too long in general, barring big headliners like the Coke 600, Daytona and Southern 500s no race should be longer than 2.5 hours max, 2 hours is more ideal.
4. DROP INDY period.
5. Certain tracks that are notable for boring races would be well suited to V8SC weekend formats of 2 races of equal length.
6. If pit crews are to be used the same amount make the fuel tanks smaller and the tires softer.
7. For god's sake allow digital radios, why are we still talking on what is essentially a CB radio?
8. 40-1 point system, no bonuses, just win the stinkin race
9. As a way to spice up the racing in general, award championships at season's end for superspeedways, speedways 1.1miles and longer, tracks shorter than 1.1miles, and road courses provided there's 4 or more on the schedule
10. Scrap the chase now that there's already races within the races, no need for playoff format anymore.

The Chase was created in the first place because NASCAR/Nextel realized the season was too long and they didn't want to actually fix the problem because then the ISC shareholders would have blown up

So now they stuck their finger in the hole in the dam right?

Great post. I agree with much of it especially ditching boring tracks with 2 races like Pocono. One is enough and it's not even a great track in the first place. Indy sucks no question. On #10 they may be doing this for the reasons listed but I'm unsure on that. We'll see. I really like the soft tire smaller fuel tank suggestion if they are going to mandate cautions. I think it's too tall of an order for them to start from scratch and come out with something completely new though. A lot of people want everything like it was 30 years ago and hate any change but I think we all can agree that something needs to change. Old races are cool for nostalgia but honestly, there is some great racing now with aero changes thay've implemented recently. I look forward to the new package. I'm one of those rare exception NASCAR fans who hate Super Speedways and think they don't serve much of a purpose anymore and the quality of racing is poor. But those races put fans in the stands and are the bread & butter of NASCAR and I can respect that and tolerate it. I like short tracks. It'd be nice to see more and of course the stereotypical GTP member opinion of more road courses. It would be nice to see International races. The field is too large. As I said, many have no business being out there and serve no good purpose other than employing people and plugging their sponsors. There are only a handful of cars that actually have a chance to win if you subtract Weather shortened races.
