2018 Azerbaijan Grand PrixFormula 1

More like "Well done Maxu"

So China was livened up by a safety car caused by Toro Rosso team mates colliding. Azerbaijan was livened up by a safety car cause by Red Bull team mates colliding...

Must be something in the caffeinated water.

Red Bull: the official drink of psychopaths and assorted lunatics! And right now, Horner's probably downing can after can after can. Wouldn't like to be Verstappen, or Ricciardo...

Vettel's ability to commit crucial mistakes at the worst possible moment never ceases to amaze me. There was no need to take such absurd risks and divebomb Bottas, he could've just played it safe and smart by planting himself in second position and doing a super easy job of defending against Hamilton (and in hindsight, he would've taken the lead not much later - so even if he'd managed to pull that maneuvre off, it would've been unnecessary). But then, I guess this is not the way a pro racer thinks. Can we get a sensible but fast guy in a Ferrari, just for once?

Did they send out a medical car for Grosjean thinking he'd hit the good stuff a bit too hard? "Ericsson crashed into me", yeah, right.

Why is Sergio Perez "Mr Podium" when it's his first podium in two years?

A great result for him but a weird bit of commentary from the Sky team.
Could be worse, could've been James Allen

Still. Bloody well done to Perez, another example of keeping his head while others are losing theirs. Always the key in Baku but Bottas didn't deserve that. At all.

30.

That’s the number of points Haas F1 have thrown away with unlucky mistakes. And now not only has Force India passed them in the constructors championship, but Sauber might have as well. Un 🤬 ing believable.

So, I was asleep thorugh most of the race and only caught the last ~20 laps, but wow what an amazing second half. Points again for Sauber (Leclerc is now DotD), a luck podium for Perez, Romain having a...special moment, Lewis finally wins in 2018, and Perez gets another podium finish. Yet still some heartbreak for Bottas, who once again had all the tools needed to win.

But, once again, the biggest losers are Red Bull, because Max decided to make two aggressive blocks off of the racing line, leaving his teammate nowhere to go. If today doesn't get Max to change how he races, then I honestly don't know what will. From a hard-fought for Red Bull victory in China to a double DNF in Baku has definetly gotta sting.

And then realize this was the last Baku race

Wait really? Azerbaijan's contract is up?

That race had everything! Awesome and crazy and nailbiting! 👍

Waiting for that truck to leave the track near the end was painful 🤬

He also crashed in FP1, was it due to being over aggressive as well?

Roo
If he'd won, Bottas would be leading the championship.

Those were different incidents, though. In FP1 he looked to lose control of the rear of the car car. In the race, he moved twice across Daniels front. In doing so, he robbed Daniel of downforce, immediately started braking, which caused the crash. Daniel did not have the space or downforce to avoid the incident.

Right race. After 2016 everyone saying it's the most boring track on the calendar. I love Baku to watch, although to drive it is easily my worst track.

I personally think the Max, Danny crash was Ric's fault as there wasn't really a space on the inside to begin with, maybe a car width in a narrow car parking space at most which at that speed isn't possible, also his turning angle would have been so tight that he would have either taken the corner really slow or gone in the wall. This is after I spent the entire race screaming at Max for risky moves.
Vettel.. That was never going to work come on.
Poor Bottas. Whiting needs a slap round the face, he let too much go in terms of stuff on track. Half a flipping tree was on the track for a few laps after it had been spotted.
They should do the race at this time every year, the tyre warm up issue was great to watch.
Ocon and Kimi, meh Ocon didn't really have the move on but he was squeezed to the wall.
Grosjean, you plum.
I agree with driver of the day, great drive from Charles Leclerc.

Crazy race, disappointed with Vettel, didn’t expect him to make such a mistake, considering his races this year so far have been clinical.
Very happy for Leclerc, very good performance, he was in the points the whole race, have a feeling he will stay in front of Marcus.
Bad move by Ocon, bit silly.
Gutted for Bottas, Safety Car for so many laps and leaving debris on 300+ kph straight...
Hamilton lucky, imagine thinking last year that all this would have to happen for Lewis to win in Baku

Verstappen/Ricciardo, well, had a feeling something was gonna happen after all those passes/defenses.
Each of them trying to put one over each other, silly of both of them, technically could see Verstappen being cleared of fault.

Let’s see how the championship goes, so far Ferrari has been both lucky and unlucky (VSC in Aus, SC/Max in China and today), made strategy mistakes (China) and had driver errors (today) but has the fastest car.

While I don't think Verstappen was entirely to blame for the RB collision today, it was very apparent how much more aggressive he is than Ricciardo - Max is very lucky not to have taken them both out earlier in the race. Verstappen gives absolutely no quarter - even to his team mate, and that is going to be (is already) a major headache for the team.

I'm not liking the idea that the safety car influences the outcome of the race very strongly. It's not fair to the leaders. I guess vsc thru the pit lane would have been enough to recovers the bulls. Also Max is getting ridiculously too bad with his driving.

But as he said, they both race each other equally fair. /s

Both Daniel and Max don't want to blame each other, they just want to say sorry to the team.
