2018 F1 Constructor development/techFormula 1

Not sure where else I could put this, but it's something that F1 might glance over for the future: a visor-mounted HUD.

During a recent Super Formula development test for the next generation SF19, the transparent screen (created by Japan Display Inc.) was bolted on top of Tomoki Nojiri's visor. It's still in the development stage, but the idea is to feed information directly to the eye of the driver so he/she no longer has to rely on the steering wheel display, below the driver's line of sight.

"Tomoki-san. What was the RPM read-out of the new engine on the straight?"

No images?

The tyres are currently 670-680mm (different types have different diameters) so 700-720 (obviously an increase of 3 and 4 cm) won't really be that noticeable... what I find jarring are the 18" hubs. I'll get over it I guess :D

It's a good move for the sport, the performance of the cars is reaching the edge of the envelope for such tall sidewalls.
Sorry. I set the album to owner only, thinking that it would only be for viewing the album. It didn't dawn on me that it would affect who could view the images in threads where I post them.:dunce:

Seems like McLaren are still searching for money, and are going deeper into the Middle Eastern path that they've been on for some time now. This doesn't seem to be at the benefit of McLaren other than potentially having a long term group of people to source as engineers and mechanics. Short term wise it just seems to help the University they aligned with, so good for them at least.

What is the financial status of McLaren's road car arm?

Is it doing better than the Formula One team or are they even part of the same parent company any more?

Sneak peak at possible direction of the 2021 cars. It is Ross the boss standing in front of the photo, so it’s not complete nonsense - although I’m sure the actual thing will end up different than this concept.

Halo looks much better, much more integrated. The rear wing is interesting too, with a sort of half fender over the rear wheel. Can’t really see any barge board detail thanks to the black though.

I love that halo! Bringing it further forward takes away from that awkward hump where the nose suddenly slopes forward and gives it a much more streamlined look. It's also helped by the top element curving ahead of the driver so the joint with the center support isn't the highest point. Such a huge improvement.

I love the simplicity of Concept 1& concept 2

but I bet it'll be more like concept 3.

I kind of am impressed at how all three of these concepts look like something Hot Wheels would've came up with. Of course, I know that the F1 teams can look at these new rules and come up with something more believable.

Zak Brown wants one of the worst aspects of IndyCar and NASCAR in F1.

As someone who only really has the chance to see highlights and clips from Indycar races, the thing that annoys me most is that the liveries keep changing. Like, I'll see Simon Pagenaud in a bright yellow car, then see a new report with him winning a race in something blue and silver. Obviously, for diehard fans its not hard because you pay attention to these changes and look forward to them, but for casual fans it's a nightmare. Please don't do this F1.

This needs to be only for really special occasions, not every race for a different title sponsor.

I Have no problem with it what so ever.

F1 has a Sponsership problem especially with the teams lower on the grid this can help that.

F1 has been in a vacuum of sameness for soo long what is the real harm?

I doubt it would be a problem for casuals as it would likely get more screen time due to the change in livery anyway.

I don't agree. Special liveries are a another money making opportunity for the smaller teams. If it's limited, like the driver helmet changes are it could actually be pretty great.

All good, as long as they make the driver numbers a lot more visible than they are now.

Have a look at in what categories the multi livery/sponsorship thing happens. Have a really good look.

Now tell me it works for the little guy.

All I see are more opportunities for a little guy sponsor to gain a high-profile spot, for one or two races on a high profile team.

In what world would Mercedes, Redbull and especially Ferrari, even want a full livery change sponsor?
F1 isn't like other series in that regard and I don't think any of those three teams would be interested in such a thing. But say, McLaren, Renault, FI (or what ever) etc etc... they'd be all for that... you know, the teams struggling financially

What about the extra sensor FIA placed in the Ferrari around the battery? And rumours go around that because of that extra 'measurement tool' they had to squeeze power?? Arrivabene responded that slower speed is because of the slower turns with mid to high downforce?

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/ferrari-warns-leaks-of-technical-info-a-serious-matter/3189413/

Developing story?
Craig Scarborough did a videoblog thing with Peter W and Autosport, he suggested that Ferrari were able to with some magic extract extra power from the battery system after the initial boost had run out. This was visible in GPs data. Once the other teams knew about this the FIA put extra sensors on the Ferrari PU and found that they were doing something special, but wasn't illegal, but was against the idea of the rules and so quietly asked them to stop or reduce it.
They did this to a small extent with the second spec PU but it wasn't enough and now they have reduced it even more.

I have no idea if this is true or not and he did mention that if it was, we'd probably not find out for another 20 odd years... but it could explain why the gps tracking shows that their engine is down on what it was

Mercedes gain in form can be tracked to post-summer advancements made to the car starting in Spa. The changes have been to control the tire temperatures through some very smart means, as well as suspension work and aero as usual too. However, the important part is those tire and suspension changes that allow the drivers to gain more tire life and performance, especially at tracks that are harsh on tires. It was revealed that Mercedes at one point had to remove rear tires from their warming blankets earlier, than fronts to help control heating issues.

Since then this is the solution they've come up with for those who might have missed it.
