What's worse is that his penalty was for driving too slowly?

Too quickly, he "failed to stay above the minimum time". As Kravitz points out it seems harsh when the red was for a start line fault that Ricciardo was never going to approach any way. I guess the stewards are taking a rules-is-rules approach but you have to wonder what Ricciardo needs to do to get a break at his home race.

I read it through carefully a number of times and everytime it seemed they were saying he was too slow. Of course as soon as I suggest it online and then it gets pointed out, I now can't see it any other way than being "he drove too fast"! The internet wins again!

Even so, point remains - Should never have been a grid penalty.

RedBull Halo cam is the biggest nonsense cam placement in the history of Motorsport.. even a monkey realize you can't see anything. But new F1 rulers don't. And now this on his home Grand Prix. They are trying too hard to make a Webber out of Daneil. Every year FIA's getting worse. I should just stop watching this Formula farce.

Has anyone tried going back and watching the practice sessions again through the ESPN app? I'm curious if they are going to leave past sessions up for a little bit in case you've missed one when it originally aired. Due to a change at my workplace I can't watch the Friday morning practice sessions from here this year and I'm hoping they will still be up when I get home from work.

They do and I watched FP2 when I got up today. It's on the phone app but couldn't find it on the PS4 app

Not sure about ESPN, but the FIA's F1 app is allowing me to replay FP1 and FP2 several hours after completion. I'm actually surprised how good the app is, and the audio commentary makes up somewhat for not seeing any video. I get that...elsewhere, for now. Waiting on F1TV Pro for total immersion. Sadly, the way the halo is blocking the in-car camera views may compromise some of the enjoyment of it. Wait and see for now.

I watched it live last night on the Xbox One X app but as long as it's at least on the desktop app later that same day I'll be happy with that.

We have had no rain here in Melbourne for the last two months and now it decides to rain at the GP. Typical! The poor old Lamborghini are sliding sideways in the GT championship.

Qualifying should be interesting. Fingers crossed that things improve for the race tomorrow.

I'm watching ESPN right now... The guide says F1 Practice but it's just a bunch of dudes in a field watching one guy wave a piece of wood around

Yea I think it's gonna be 10:55 meaning 11pm and Qualifying is 2am so there's a two hour break between the two.

FP3 is underway and the rain has stopped early leaving patchy areas around the track. Inters for this session and hopefully they move enough water around to go on slicks to qualify in three hours.

Things are looking better now. Track is damp with nice dry line two hours before qualifying.

Ferrari was the only team to get a shot on the ultra soft in P3.

I like the head-on shots of the Force India coming down straights. The livery along with the slotted bargeboards gives it that shark-mouth look.

I have to give ESPN a little credit. They didn't interrupt a qualifying session for commercials. NBCSN sure did except for Q3.
