Wayne Rooney will join Derby County in January as a player/coach on an 18-month contract, he will see out the MLS season with DC United before joining, this has come out of nowhere but I am a very big Rooney fan for obvious reasons and I look forward to seeing him back playing in England.

Tottenham have suddenly come in for Dybala, whilst still being interested in Fernandes and Lo Celso, big 48 hours for them.

Speaking of Spurs, Man United are interested in Christian Eriksen and could make a late bid for him, so if they do end up signing one or more of the above players then it could be Eriksen's replacement.

Tomorrow is the last full day of the Summer transfer window.

The Tottenham for Dybala story is interesting, if Dybala wouldn't come to United because we weren't offering enough money then I doubt he will get as much from Spurs. Perhaps it's more to do with Champions League football than the money papers were reporting.

I'm still holding out (faint) hope that United sign a midfielder, Eriksen would be a good buy, but doing business with Levy has never been easy for us, the thought of Ed Woodward doing that business makes me shudder. I would also be very happy if we secured a late deal for Bruno Fernandes but that has gone cold for some reason. I think United wanted to sell/swap Lukau before bringing another player in.

DC United are in talks with Arsenal to replace Rooney with Ozil in January.

The English clubs are in a really tough spot with this new transfer deadline and it looks like the other leagues are going to take advantage of it. Lukaku is going to Inter with Juventus trying to raise cash for a late bid. United will get Mandzukic from Juve no matter who signs Lukaku. There's no way Tottenham sign Dybala before the deadline. It sounds like they left it too late to make it in time. Dybala will likely be going to PSG along with Matuidi and Rugani plus cash for Neymar.

Apparently we've just sold Lucas Joao for £5m (increasing to £7m with bonuses) to Reading for some reason...

Odder, Joao scored a last minute goal last week that put us top of the league (until Leeds matched us the next day and overtook us on disciplinary points)... against Reading.

David Luiz wants a move to Arsenal and is training away from the Chelsea first team, no formal bid for Luiz from Arsenal or anywhere else.

Wilfried Zaha puts in a transfer request as he desperately seeks a move from Crystal Palace.

Coutinho's loan move to Tottenham is off as Barcelona as they want a permanent move for him. Spurs still in talks with Dybala though.

Inter Milan make another bid for the now AWOL Lukaku, He has been training with Anderlecht without United's permission.

Less than 24 hours of the window left.

I read this morning that Everton bid over £70m and were willing to add players for Zaha but Palace said he was not for sale.

Tottenham have agreed a €60m deal with Real Betis to sign Giovani Lo Celso.

Lukaku to Inter looks like it's agreed for a fee in the region of £72m.

Real Madrid in talks with PSG over a Neymar deal.

Valverde truly has injected mediocrity into this club. Watching this game vs Napoli confirms that. The 🤬 kinda football is this...

Arsenal have signed David Luiz from Chelsea for £8m and Kieran Tierney of Celtic for £25m.

Leicester City have purchased Dennis Praet from Sampdoria for €21m.

Wolves have offered €25m plus a €3m bonus fee for Franck Kessie of Milan. The offer was accepted but the player is demanding an upgrade in pay from €2.5m to €4 per year.

Hirving Lozano is joining Napoli from PSV for €40m.

Mario Balotelli is rumored to be joining Flamengo as a free agent.

Paulo Dybala to Tottenham is off, as is Mandzukic to United.

Tottenham are close to signing Lo Celso from Real Betis for £65 million. Under an hour now...

Edit: This was apparently completed but now appears to be a loan deal with the exact terms yet to be announced.

Well, I am dissapointed we didn't sign a single central midfielder this summer, we have what I think will be a solid defence now and a decent attack, but we have an average midfield.

Hopefully McTominay and Fred can both step up to the plate and make the lack of midfield signings something we don't rue come the the end of the season. Hoping that they both improve considerably from last season is a big, big risk and I think motivated by the Glazers simply not wanting to spend.

I am very happy with the 3 players we did sign, I think Wan Bissaka and Maguire improve us in areas we needed improving and James is defienitely one for the future but I hope will make a decent number of appearences over the sesaon. But for Manchester United to have a net spend of around £70m in this day and age and at a time when we really needed investment is very poor.

What happened with the whole Lukaku saga? 25 goals for Everton the season before he joined United. 16 goals for United his first season there, ok that's sort of decent but not great for the price you paid for him. 12 goals last year and now off to Inter. Did he just tail off that badly as a player? Get on Mourinho's bad side? OGS didn't like him? It just seems strange to me how it all played out.

He was just the wrong fit for United.

His scoring record is great, but his first touch is and always has been very poor. He plays best with his back to goal and the ball passed to his feet. At United where the ball is being played into space in front of him and it he was expected to take a pass and lay it off quickly or get on the end of a cross field pass etc. he just didn't fit in and couldn't adapt.

Against the weaker teams he was always likely to get you a goal and he did provide a different option for us than Rashofrd and Martial can, but he was never going to be happy sat on the bench. I refuse to label him a flop, he just didn't fit our style of play. He scored 42 goals for us in 96 appearences which is almost 1 goal every 2 games.

Thanks for clearing that up because it was just one of those I just didn't understand why it wasn't working out. He was obviously "the man" at Everton but I knew the coming off the bench thing wasn't going to go over well with him.

Deadline Day Round-Up.

Tottenham have signed Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham in a deal worth £25 million rising to 30 million.
Joshua Onomah had moved from Tottenham to Fulham as part of the deal.
David Luiz has joined Arsenal from Chelsea for £8 million
Arsenal have also signed left back Kieran Tierney from Celtic for £25 million.
Tottenham have signed Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis on a season-loan with an option to buy.
Wilfried Zaha is staying at Palace but he says he has 'beef' with the owners.
Everton hoping to confirm the signing of Alex Iwobi from Arsenal for £28 million as the deal sheet was submitted just before the deadline.
Newcastle have re-signed Andy Carroll on a free.
Marcos Rojo stays at United after interest from Everton.
Brighton sign Huddersfield midfielder Aaron Mooy on loan.
Burnley sign Danny Drinkwater on loan from Chelsea.
Watford have signed Senegal winger Ismaila Sarr from Rennes for a club record fee.

I think that's about it, we already know about Lukaku and Dybala.

So ahead of tomorrow's opening day game, is it time for relegation predictions?

Brighton
Aston Villa
Sheffield

I think Crystal Palace stays up barely but that could change if Zaha leaves in the January transfer window.

Ex-squeeze me? Baking powder?

Meanwhile, across that city at the older (and better) football club, despite the gammon traitor and the flaccid embargo (sounds like two short stories in a teen detective series) we've had quite a summer and even more of a transfer window.

Over the summer we bought Brentford's Moses Odubajo and ex-Cardiff full back Kadeem Harris. They seemed to do rather well in pre-season when it came to pace down the wings and crosses onto the head of the Championship's record goal scorer. A couple of clubs (such as Norwich City, who had him on loan last year) tried to poach him away, but he's stayed. We added Arminia Bielefeld's captain, Julian Borner, in the middle of our defence. All three played in the hurting of Reading last week that put us on top of the table.

Today we've also bought Australia international midfielder - and Ballon d'Or nominee (no, really) - Massimo Luongo from QPR. And we've grabbed on season-long loan Hamburg's 22-year old Scottish defender and "ginger Ramos" David Bates, and *spits* Newcastle United's surplus £12m England U21 winger Jacob Murphy. We've also picked up a random keeper because our third keeper was injured in pre-season and our first keeper was a little harshly sent off in the hurting of Reading.

Most of these guys are young and fast. With Forestieri, Rhodes, Reach, Bannon, Lee, Lees and Hutchinson - and of course the best keeper in the Championship between the sticks - Wednesday fans could be forgiven for being more than a little optimistic of our chances.

But we won't be, because we're Wednesday fans.

Seen a United fan burning his United shirt on Twitter earlier, clearly unhappy with the transfer window the club had.

My take on it is this, the fact that the defence now seems sorted is brilliant but we have let two midfielders go on a free and not replaced them and let a top-scoring striker go and not replaced him, that is shocking from Woodward and the Glazers once again.

I do feel that we have enough about us to finish in the top four but I also feel that not only Liverpool Man City and Tottenham are leps and bounds ahead of us but also that the likes of West Ham, Everton and Leicester are ahead of us.

Could be a real struggle this season, I'm trying to be optimistic but I'm also fearful.

Luongo is a very underated player, he is a good signing.

Bayern Munich had their final pre-season match yesterday; a leisurely 23-0 win over amateur side FC Rottach-Egern.

Lewandowski had a hat-trick and the German champions averaged a goal every 4 minutes. What is the point of that?

Man United have offered Alexis Sanchez to Roma on loan and are reportedly willing to pay half of his £24m salary.

Lukaku has been given Icardi's #9 at Inter. Icardi likely to leave for Juve, Napoli or Roma.

Atalanta are close to signing former Liverpool defender Skrtel on a free transfer.

Yes it has. Feels like it's been a lot more than 3 months but at least it's here again.

Living here in the southeast of the United States means that it's mainly College Football that anyone is concerned about plus a little bit of NFL with the Falcons and Titans. But usually this time of year someone will say, "man I'm glad football season is back", and I'll say "yeah me too". Of course the next question I get is "who's your team?" to which I reply "Liverpool". I get the wrinkled face looking back at me asking, "who's that?" I say they play football in the English Premier League, "Oh that soccer crap?". I just politely nod my head and move on. :)

Mesut Ozil and Saed Kolasinac will not be in the Arsenal squad for the Newcastle game on Sunday due to security concerns, there was an attempted car-jacking/robbery on them in the summer.

Something else has happened since then I think, maybe they or they're families have been threatened.
