A part of me wonders if there will even be a replacement driver for the 48 due to how much COVID-19 is messing things up.

Having said that, I wonder if Chase Briscoe is a possibility. I know he has a development deal with Ford, but I can’t imagine they would stop him from taking the ride considering they don’t exactly have an abundance of competitive rides unless Harvick or Bowyer retire (If Penske adds a car it will be for Cindric).

Aren’t they already pretty much an RCR team in all but name?
Ally Financial has not said they are leaving the sport. I can't see why they will have an issue keeping that car.

True, but with the way things are going I have a hard time seeing NASCAR teams escaping unscathed. Will they leave? Probably not, but at the same time I won’t be surprised if they (or any other sponsor) do.

Jeff "owns" the 48, doesn't he? He probably still has the ability to suggest someone, who's he bullish on that isn't already there?

Would they mothball the operation or devote that effort to learning and analysis of the Gen 7 car?

If they want to keep at it...Suarez on a 1 year trial? How long is Truex under contract?

Last I remember, Jeff does co-own the 48 with Rick Hendrick.

Can't see them even being interested in Suarez. From what I've been able to tell, he hasn't exactly done a lot even with good equipment.

You also have to consider pit crews, marshals, and pretty much everyone who isn’t driving a car. It makes a lot of sense to red flag for lightning. I race time attack and we’ve had a few sessions red flagged because of lightning as well.
Hello, spotters and cameramen on top of the press boxes...

They’re officially trying it. Will probably look silly on the Gen 6 though. They’ve obviously been building towards this since they’ve cleared out all the contingency decals recently.

The NextGen car being delayed to 2022 pushes back most of the crazy silly season moves by a year, other than the 48.

It's gonna look like trash. But it is a one-off.

I wish. Generally, the RCR cars are running better, but Wallace does seem to be closing the performance gap, so who knows

Ugh. I really hope they don't go that route for the new cars. I find it funny they want to give the sponsors more exposure at a time teams are having trouble getting them in the first place.
Tyler Reddick finishes a lap too soon.

That explains things. I noticed he slowed on the last lap and figured he had a tire going down or something. I was happy to see him still keep his position because ran a great race.

I hate this with every fiber of my being.

Nearly pulled a Mark Martin.

Rule changes for Talladega this weekend.
  • Addition of a lower main roll bar support bar #20 / intrusion plate and upper main roll bar support bar #21.
  • Elimination of aero ducts at superspeedway tracks.
  • Reduction in size of throttle body from 59/64” to 57/64” (superspeedways only). (Loss of 30-40 HP)
  • Updated roll bar padding specifications (mandatory at all tracks beginning June 1).
  • Oil reservoir tank or overflow expansion tank must contain a check valve (mandatory at all tracks beginning with Talladega).
  • Slip tape must be applied along the entire length of the lower rearward facing surfaces of the rear bumper cover and extension (superspeedways only).

Take away the power all you want. Still a follow the leader freight train. Talladega and Daytona are basically novelty races and it's time to move on.

Both sorta need to go but because people love their multi-car pile ups, they won't so at the very least they should just cap the restrictor plate races to one per track a season. They tend to be jokes more often then not.

I think Daytona and Talladega should stay on the schedule because the tracks themselves are not the problem, it's the terrible rules package which makes it impossible to pass without a push from another car among other issues. Almost every race over the past several years has followed a predictable format: The first few laps of the race see 2 and 3 wide racing until a few cars migrate to the top lane. Once that starts, everyone else follows suit and no one really attempts to race for the next couple of hours. With about 20 laps to go, a switch is flipped and drivers who haven't been really racing all day suddenly decide to pull their head off their shoulders and start doing ridiculous amounts of pushing and blocking, leading to the :censored:fests that are now commonplace.

NASCAR needs to seriously consider a total redo of the superspeedway package for the Gen-7 cars and make it so the cars can pass without having to be pushed. Also, the ability for a group of cars to line up and pull away from the main pack without sacrificing the quality of racing needs to be brought back. Finally, blocking needs to be strictly enforced. Drivers are only allowed to make one move and one move only to protect their position. Violators will be harshly punished due to it being a safety issue.

If NASCAR actually goes through with the changes smartly for 2022, fans and drivers will hopefully see a return to the golden era of Daytona and Talladega:

Heavily disagree. The super speedways are about the best form of oval racing out there now. Granted NASCAR seems to be ruining the package almost constantly, but to abandon super speedways would be nothing more than an exercise in hurting the sport. Where else can you have extreme parity, multiple lead changes, and high corner speeds. The latter of which the short tracks will have to wait until 2022 to get with the gen 7

Good News: Aussie racer James Davison will be running for Spire Motorsports this weekend at Talladega.

Bad News: Dale Jarrett has tested positive for COVID-19 but (good news) is experiencing only mild conditions.

Lol

Hey NASCAR.... here’s a very bold idea....

how about you start a race... at noon or 1pm instead?

Crazy I know! :scared:
Steve O’Donnel was on twitter today saying that it’s the TV partners that want the later starts cause it boosts ratings.

You honestly think that after having 11 of 16 (!) Cup races this year get delayed by rain they would learn their lesson with the late start times.... guess that wasnt the case today nor tomorrow

Again?!? What is it with NASCAR and rain?!?
South East in summer time, its a 50/50 shot of rain every day above 85F.

Maybe all the attention and the next gen car they can come up with a semi wet tire.:dopey::sly:

Edit: I agree with the noon start but for “ratings” it just aint gonna work.
