On a side note. Watching a YouTube stream, was surprised to see another YouTuber say in the chat "GT planet forums can be toxic".
This generally translates as "Some people there disagreed with what I said, yet the moderators banned me for simply calling them dicks for disagreeing with me.".

"Hey look at this move, what an a-hole that other guy was amirite?"
"Actually dude, you're the a-hole"
"OMG I can't believe how toxic this place is"

I think streamers/YouTubers spend too much time in their echo chamber chats and become accustomed to being surrounded by yes-men, so they can't handle it when presented with opposing viewpoints.

Are people doing fuel only in the 1 stop or tires as well?
Unless your car absolutely destroys tyres, you're not going to need to change them. Some FFs, maybe some 4WD, who tend to light tyres up might be faster overall to swap tyres but most FR and MR cars are going to be perfectly fine running one set for 15 laps and it's about 5 seconds off your pit-stop time to not change tyres.

Poor days racing from myself. Several attempts earlier in the day didn't result in a decent performance. With the existing points not mattering I decided to enter the thunderdome that is the last slot of the day.

Qualified a pleasantly surprising 7th but had another poor race. Several silly bumps on the wall resulting in penalties. Had been 10th entering the esses on the final lap and made a right mess of it, ending in 12th for 98 points which will never come into play. An 8th place finish was definitely possible here. That's racing I guess

Wait a second. The Atenza is diesel.... right? :sly:

The whatnow?
Well, the road car is diesel. The GR.3 Atenza is pretty much based on the SpeedSource Mazda6 diesel. MZRacing run diesel Demio and Mazda3 in Super Taikyu. The decals don't read "Skyactiv-D" like the S-Tai cars and the GR.3/GR.4 cars rev to 7000rpm, but I asked the question. Besides, it's fun to pretend when the thing is so frugal. :D:gtpflag:

as the new guy around here, you run a good and fair forum. Rules are pretty fair. You ask us to be mature and not name and shame and that’s really not much to ask IMHO.

I’ve found this place to pretty welcoming and supportive tbh....

On the fence regarding going or skipping tonight’s race. I don’t mind some tire and fuel management as strategic part of race but it seems like this one is all about fuel management and not race... combination of remaining competitive while having the eyes on the fuel gauge at all times is something I’m not very good at.

What?? Just realize I missed the first slot... darn military time!

Are people finding the other competitors are 2 stopping?
Only car I saw two stop, was that GT-R and RC F, in my second race. GT-R pit lap 6(11%, filled to 100%)) and lap 13. After its first stop, it passed me, as I was about 8 seconds ahead.

Me and the RC F had been running together in last, but it wasn't frugal enough(Edit: transmission was set to AT). RC F made its stop on Lap 9(4%, filled to 74%). The GT-R second stop, Lap 13, it had 12%(filled to 42%) the RC F, same lap, had 13%(filled to 28%). I had 15% to make it to the end on Fuel 4, I was 15 seconds ahead of the GT-R. That's the gap they closed to, in the pic I posted.

For reference, A Cayman ran to Lap 12 with 8%(filled to 29%) and an F-Type ran to Lap at 8 at 6%(filled to 100%), a Vantage Lap 8 at 5%(filled to 74%), another Vantage lap 10 at 17%(filled to 52%).
Other Atenza, Lap 9 at 15%(filled to 65%).

I dig the track layout and love the time of day. Just have to stay out of harm's way.

I did the exact same thing. I just logged in for slot 1 only to find out slot 2 opens in 20 min...

Had my run at Tokyo in my Scirocco. Fairly unknown field. Only faces I know are aggressive zero-strategy drivers who will dive into any perceived gap. Then at the last minute I spot @housej and didnt remember them from here, but from other races so knew if they were near it was still safe.

Qualifying is a bit of a mess. First lap after turn 1 the 2 in front of me start fighting and banging. Quit out. Next lap I'm flying, but get the wall penalty final turn. Quit out and luckily make it out for my final lap, I'm going fast, but take a steady final turn to play it safe. P4.

Race is ok. An exchange up to p3 and back down to 4 lap 1 is messy, but ok enough. Then after serving another wall penalty I drop to p6 behind an opportunistic Mazda. And despite getting ahead they are just slow. I cant stay behind as they are killing me in the turns. I lost 0.5 through the esses the first lap behind them. And just as much more in the docks. I finally get by and there is contact. I felt it was dirty at the time but on replay they were throwing a late block, not actually trying to wall me. I do get by them with a dive at the hairpin and start pulling away by massive amounts.

I catch one of the front runners dying of fuel death before the pits and manage to put 2 seconds on then in the half lap until I pit lap 8.5.

After that I get a wall penalty on the final turn and that lets @housej catch me. I was a bit worried he would bring the Mazda with him but they dropped off. He bump drafted me a lot until the end. P4. 153 points.

It was what I needed. A fairly cleanly contested race that took a lot of good driving and ended with a solid result. Most issues being my own mistakes.
Good luck out there all, may your fuel hold out!

Was good to be in a race with you. I knew we had to pull away from the cars behind, and to fight with you would have caused us both to slow down, or at worse penalties with those walls and track limits. You had the pace and I was happy to come in 5th. Always nice to get in a race with friendlies, and working together gave us the best result possible. Good luck with the rest of the season, and hope to see you again.

I did fuel only.

Me too. The WRX is not so bad on the front's as other AWD's.

I got into slot 1 Oceania. Qualified 11th, got 2 x .500 limit penalties at the docks, stopped on lap 8 after using FM2 most of the race. I figured I could (almost) go flat out after pit stop to the finish but no, I was running short and eventually ran out about 200m from finish line to allow another Anzac to take my 7th spot. Oh, well. 83 points and about 500DR points so not a complete loss for the evening. Looking forward to the 'ring. :gtpflag:

Are people finding the other competitors are 2 stopping?
Was surprised to have about 3 people running 2 stoppers in my race at low DR A. 2 of them were people that I knew have zero strategy awareness so wasnt a total shock. Just be aware you lose more with a 2 stop. I know the Scirocco is good on fuel, but I was about 1 or so seconds a lap slower going full fuel save versus another 20 seconds in the pits. No way to make up that kind of time in that race, especially if you have to battle.

Came back to FIA after mostly focusing on league racing for the last few weeks.

Of course my 650S has a drinking problem. Figured I'd fuel save for the race and se what I could do. This car, at least for me required a ton of very short shifting and fuel map adjustments. FM3 down the hill towards the docks, FM1 up the hill, 6 through the docks and on and on, dancing with the MFD and shifting before any red shows.

A handful of two stoppers, driving around the carnage, came out of the pits end of lap 7, full fuel, diamond was at 96%. By lap 12 I was in P2 behind an alfa. Didn't have fuel to push, so settled in for the last few laps with an increasing gap to P3 and a slowly decreasing gap to P1.

I'll take the P2 and 100 pts.

Man, what a messy race.

First, I messed up the time slots and missed slot 1 by a good 40 min. When I finally get logged in, I somehow set a decent banker even though I went wide at the hairpin. I didn't improve it on my supposed flying lap and started P8. Which I was ok with. I knew I'd be able to get someone's slip and I was going to have to let people running flat out by regardless of where I started.

As we go through the grid intro, I start giggling manically at all the people revving their engines. I swear, if Mr. Burns raced GT cars this is how he would look like on the grid. Then the race started predictably messy but I made a point of letting people by early and steering clear of the messes. Even still, I got pushed aside a lot by people lunging at corners. Laughing and muttering how much I was going to enjoy passing them on their multiple pit stops became my mantra for the race. Sure enough, L6 at least half the filed pits. Then more on L7. I finally get clean air and set my fastest lap - a good 2 sec faster than when I was behind the idiots that were fighting and going full out, despite my fuel saving. L8 mostly everyone else pits in. Finally, an Atenza and I are the only two to make our fuel last until L9.

I come out of the pits in P8 and get mugged by a bunch of bargey midfielders fighting for what I'm guessing's P4? It's such a mess, I'm not sure. But I overfilled just a bit, so I know that if I can just survive these 🤬's I should be able to pull away at the end. I try to balance bump drafting with overtaking when necessary, so as to not lose too much time. But it's a rough 4 laps, these guys are pushing their nose in every little bend in the road, trying to overtake in the esses, lunging for every corner. I got knocked around quite a bit. And that's without including one of the dirtiest Brazilians in an RCZ that I've seen in a while in an FIA race. But on one hand, it was almost helpful as he kept on knocking other people out the way when things got congested.

We finally get to L14. I know I have enough fuel to run flat out the rest of the race and floor it. It doesn't take much time at all to create some distance between myself and the bargey brigade. Unfortunately, by this time I'm 11 sec behind P3 and have no hope of catching him. A couple of wonderfully uneventful laps take me across the line in P4. 70 pts is actually my second highest total of the season, so I'm pretty happy with the result.

Got a Q13/P11 that was almost clean - it's kind of a funny story. I accidentally rear-ended this guy right after the final corner on the final lap, and I got an SR down and a penalty of a whole second. The car I accidentally rammed was slowing down notably so I assume he was out of fuel. But even with the penalty, I still placed ahead of the guy I rammed, and I do feel good about how I did this race. Indeed, it's my best score for any race in the Manufacturers Series this season, with 79 points.

EDIT: And I absolutely made sure to say sorry to the guy afterwards, too, if only to help grow the sportsmanship this game is trying to cultivate.

EDIT2: I think I should expect a generally lower ranking than I got for the 2020 Nations Cup, considering that they re-merged the North America and Central/South America regions, whereas in 2020, I was only racing fellow Americans and Canadians.

EDIT3: What's odd is that my SR letter at the race results screen was still blue, despite clearly getting an SR down symbol when I accidentally rammed that guy. I thought it would've been red, considering it was at the very end of the race. Indeed, I cannot see any SR loss on my KudosPrime profile. Weird.

*Sigh* once again took 3 attempts to get a result I was happy with, but I was VERY happy with the final one...

Slot 1: Had 2 awful qualifying laps, but even if I'd somehow managed to not screw them up, my all-time high DR of 59k meant I was placed in a race with people way too fast for me to score well against. I did get to see @Winnie847 and @The359 in Manufacturer's, which I don't think has happened since they combined regions. Started 15th, finished 17th. I might've been able to salvage a Top 10 if I hadn't forgotten to look up at the braking boards going into the docks like a 🤬. I massively outbraked myself and kept the wheels straight and ran head-on into the wall rather than take out the 2 cars in front of me. Having to reverse out, then getting a 3s penalty left me dead last and a long way away from anyone. I finally caught up to 3 cars on the last lap as they were crawling around trying to not run out of fuel. At this point I was 18th and last of the cars still in the race. I got by one of them before the hairpin, passed another on the inside at the hairpin (but unfortunately understeered into them on the exit), but couldn't catch 15th to at least get back to where I started, so I handed back 16th place to the car I accidentally squeezed on the exit of the hairpin by throwing my car at the wall before the finish and picking up a 2s penalty, dropping me back down to 17th (sorry @Roman_GT23!)

Slot 2: Qualified 4th, and was running with the lead pack until I bounced off the wall in T1 and lost the slipstream. I burned too much fuel to try to catch back up, so I had to take on more fuel when I pitted and lost even more spots, coming out 9th. From there I got up to 8th and was slowly catching 5th-7th ahead, when a Jaguar with no situational awareness decided to battle me at all the wrong parts of the track. He'd save fuel behind me, then divebomb me at every braking zone, push me wide, get in front, then be slow down the next straight, which would let me pass him before we even got to a braking zone. He did this multiple time, each time erasing the ground we were making on 5th-7th, who were less than 1s ahead of us by now. I'd had enough and decided to pass him in the esses, and that went about as well as you'd expect :banghead:. Not the first stupid decision I'd made today...anyway, I then got a wall collision penalty at the final corner. I could've still finished maybe 10th at that point, but the race was already a complete waste due to my earlier mistakes, so I just bounced the car off the walls until I was last, then ran out of fuel for good measure...finished 18th of 18.

Slot 3: I think this was the first time I'd been in the same race as @praiano63. Qualified 2nd this time, then got divebombed by a Ferrari in the first braking zone on Lap 1, so fell to 3rd. 4th then outbraked himself and hit me at the hairpin, but fortunately we'd already made a gap to 5th place, so we didn't lose too much time. It did contribute to the front 2 cars breaking away though. After I got a poor exit out of the final corner, I decided to let 4th place by and just try to save fuel behind them. We eventually caught up to the 2 leaders just before the pit stops, and had no one close behind us. 3rd place then ran out of fuel just after exiting the docks on Lap 8, which left me in 3rd again. After the stops, I was still in 3rd and the first 2 both made mistakes so I drove around them to take the lead. I tried to break the slipstream before the hairpin, but was unable to do so, and the divebombing Ferrari went for it again and pushed me wide at the hairpin. The BMW in 3rd was also able to get by. The Ferrari then bounced off the wall of the exit of the hairpin and collided with the BMW, who then bounced into me and almost spun. I still had better momentum though and retook the lead almost immediately after having lost it. This time I was able to break the slipstream in the esses and held the lead, eventually growing it to over 3s and winning for the 2nd time this week (after 3 attempts in both races...). The 261 points from it is the most I've ever scored in Manufacturer's. It does still feel a bit cheap though, as I doubt I'd have won if I'd been placed in a higher split, and I definitely would've been placed in a higher split if I hadn't given up and lost more DR in the previous slot. Even though I don't feel like I fully deserved this result, this has easily been my most successful week ever in the FIA. Unfortunately I guess 160+MB wasn't enough to save the replay because the full replay didn't save...🤬
Gran Turismo®SPORT_20210529202912.jpg

I think I can get another good result with the RB Jr's next week, but if the past several races have taken multiple attempts to finally get a good result, I'm not expecting next Wednesday's race to be a quick one...

My fuel strategy for this race was simple: go to FM2 from the start, shortshift as soon as the rev bar appears, and then go all out on the final lap.

NA Slot 1, A/S lobby, 195 points, Door #1

Got the dreaded door #1 for the second round in a row. I only managed to qualify P15 on top of that. But I climbed several positions in the race, finishing P8 for 138 points and also gained some DR in the process. Not bad, but knowing this was one of my stronger tracks, I decided to go again.

NA Slot 2, A/S lobby, 201 points, Door #9

Felt much less pressure now that I had a lower door number. In qualifying, I got a 2:04.792 with no draft, which was good for P5. Right away, things were looking great. Once the race begins, I climb up to P3 in no time when two cars ahead of me miss their braking points by a long shot at the docks. Not long after that, a Corvette passed me at the hairpin after I went a bit too wide and on lap 3, I let a Scirocco by at the docks, putting me in P5. On lap 5, the leader, who's in a Viper, pits but a Megane driver passes me on the following lap after I slightly scrape the wall on T1. Still in 5th. I take advantage of the Megane's slipstream but it eventually drives off into the distance with the other cars ahead of me.

Just about virtually everyone, myself included, pits on lap 8. I fill a little past the diamond, and I emerge in 6th with the Corvette from earlier right ahead of me. I'm back in 5th once more when an Atenza driver goes into the pits when we come around again. On lap 10, I pass the Viper driver who was in the lead at the beginning. They were driving unusually slow, so they were definitely fuel saving a ton. But that gain was quickly taken away from me when the same Scirocco from before passed me at the hairpin. Stuck in 5th again.

From this point, I was in a comfortable spot, with the cars behind being almost 2 seconds away. However, on lap 14, the Corvette takes out the Scirocco at the hairpin and I pass. Now onto the final lap, I no longer had to hold back. I switch to FM1 and drove like I had a full tank. But despite this, that annoying Scirocco manages to catch up to me and the Corvette in the tunnel. The Corvette goes wide at the hairpin, allowing me and the Scirocco to get by. I bring this thirsty horse on home.

Reached a new DR high of 42K with this result. Knowing how inefficient the Mustang was on fuel, I went into this round with my fingers crossed but it fortunately worked out.

2021 FIA Manu - Round 6 - Tokyo
Slot 1 A+/A lobby SR S Door 11, Qualified 11th

Had a terrible qualifying, just no luck, people crashing in front of me. Then I didn't make the timer for a 3rd lap. My 2nd lap I just pushing too hard. Ran like a 2:04.6xx. The race started CRAZY. 2 people ran off at the docks, then 3 more had penalties. After the docks I was like p6. A Porsche scrubbed the wall on lap 2 so I was up to p5. Then I made a pass after getting passed, still p5. Another penalty in front moved me to p4 and at lap 7.5 my fuel looked great and my tires looked near perfect! Sitting in p4 ready to pounce. Then the power went out at my house. Lost close to 2000 DR in a race that I was sniffing a podium. RATS.

Slot 2 A+/A lobby SR S Door 13, Qualified POLE
That's right, you read correctly. Finally broke into the 2:03s and landed in P1. No slip assist either. Just ran a smooth lap. I led most of the race but had constant pressure from p2 through 4. Great finish, and quality racing from the guys up front. Also, got back about 1800 of the DR I lost Highest points for the Manu season with 238. Not pumped at the Nürburgring in a DBR9 next week, we'll see.

Tokyo Expressway - South Inner Loop was where I felt incompatible. That's why I had abandoned that Manufacturers Series race. As a result of this, I vow never to return to that track in any future FIA race in GTS. Screw that round forever!

Not cool. Bad guy scratch me against the rail on purpose. 🤬🤬

Well that’s just .... that’s poor racecraft and completely intentional. Totally spun you out.

Nicely done, Congrats on the finish. Always good to apologize and keep the sportsmanship up, never know when we’ll run into someone again. (IMO)

I missed the race, came home 20 minutes too late after seeing family all day. Totally skipping the RBjr and the nordschleife. Need some time to clear my head and find my focus again anyways.

Well, I had one shot only yesterday, and my SR was 89 so I knew I was in for a rough race.
I am in the Mustang, who drinks like Nick Nolte used to.
I knew that in order to run a one stop I needed radical fuel saving, so started on FM3 and short shifted plus coasted where possible.
But, the people I ran with where all fighting and pushing each other into walls, brake checked and rammed.
I got caught in it several times. Managed a CRB even with that.

Finished as p14 with 53 points, and with SR at 99 so next race I can do with the relative clean crew.

I am not really fond of the excessive fuel saving this round though.
