One of these days I'll get comfortable doing Fuji in race conditions. My consistency is just not there, especially in sector 3 once the tyre wear starts kicking in. Still came away with a good result, but I wouldn't say I enjoyed the race. :boggled:

Qualifying was very good, starting P4 from a 1:37.832 in the V12 Vantage but the start of the race was not. Once again (as I seem to get a lot this season!) I was caught out by the car in front starting on harder tyres in spite of starting at the sharp end of the grid. I tend to have a strong desire to take the first couple of laps of a race fairly easy and settle in, so having to go aggressive so early always throws me. Definitely something I need to try getting better at. Whilst I got past for a while, my aggressiveness led to mistakes and I was down in P5 when I entered the pits at the end of lap 7.

Things got a little ugly at the end of lap 9. I caught up with a McLaren F1 who had started at the back on Hards at the beginning of sector 3 and he was really struggling. The line he took into the final bend made me think he was sliding wide so I went up the inside on my fresh tyres, but then he turned in and me being there pushed him wider than he'd wanted. He didn't appreciate that (or what happened at the beginning of lap 10 from a couple of others who went for it into turn 1) as he called us all out after the race.

Kind of torn on how to look at it really - I'll freely admit it was quite an forceful pass on my part. In the heat of the moment I was desperate to pass and misinterpreted what I was seeing. On the other hand, part of me thinks that going that long on Hards is asking for trouble. Maybe with a cooler head I'd have done things differently but I was a bit flustered as I was frantically trying to keep as much pace as possible knowing there were cars on fresh Mediums approaching. I had not anticipated that anyone would be going that long and crawling around at that speed had completely closed the gap that had built up behind me.

End result, P7 for 171 points.

Honestly it doesn't look like there was too much wrong with your move. Either he wasn't on radar or was just miffed you got by. You had the positioning on the track and relative to them to make the move. They should have cut back or knowing they had the legs on the straight not worried about it. Plus they should be aware of tyre differential. The Porsche and Vette were far messier with their battle.

First of two attempts and I can't stay in that race, I've got lucky with driving standards over the last few races I think and forgotten how it can be, what I just experienced was bottom of the barrel stuff.

Will give it one more effort.

Excactly the same here... Not worth describing:/

Second and last go round and I have never in my time on this game had a worse lobby.

Wasn't quick, started 13th, unfortunately the worst place to be here, I remembered from a couple of Race A runs recently, but this was worse even than those. 8 cars don't go into one corner.. that should be in their driving etiquette bit at least! Punted from behind twice, guy tried to run me into the wall on the straight for maybe 11th place on lap 3, I don't remember??! Another fool in the chat after having a whinge that I punted him after he full on swerved in front of me in the braking zone into turn 6, I'm meant to go where exactly? Constant divebombing into the two big turns to the point I just stayed wide and took the position loss rather than be hoofed into the grass..

Obviously it's the same complaints most will have so I'll spare you all the gripes, ended up 9th at least for what it's worth. Need a stiff drink after that one seeing my SR go down from S to B in ONE RACE where I tried to stay out the way

When you have to decide your strategy based on who is starting right behind you... you know something is wrong

I opted for Hards from P5 because P6 was an infamous german player with "the title of a crowned male" and a lot of SsSSS in his name (get it ?). I knew he was going to dive at T1 and... not only did he, but he made sure to punt me in the process to make sure I could not defend.

Anyway, I played the long game and eventually he got sent off on lap 5 by people with much less patience than me. Unfortunately, being held up (even on Hards) in the first 5 laps meant I had 10 secs to catch up to the leaders when I came out of the pits with Mediums on lap 7.

9 laps on Mediums with a pretty good consistency (snapping FL by the way) saw me close the gap to a slipstreaming P2-3 duo but I couldn't overtake them and finished 0.2s behind in P4 for 223 points.

Kind of mixed feelings as I feel I could have grabbed more points in regards to my pace today but racing is not hotlapping...

Not sure I'll be able to do round 10 so fingers crossed I can keep my 1st place for Switzerland :)

Slot 1: After getting off of work, I stupidly thought hopping in the store before coming home would be a good idea - 3 days before Christmas, when everyone is doing last-minute shopping...as a result I made it home with less than 5 minutes to spare before Slot 1 started, so not even enough time to do a full warmup and reacquaint myself with this track. To my surprise, when the race loaded, I was door #1 in 2nd Split instead of the bottom end of Top Split! Better make this one count! Qualifying went much better than it usually does for me at Fuji despite not getting to warm up before the race, but I still left a bit of time on the table as I kept missing the apexes in Sector 3. Still, P7 would be a good starting spot, as I knew I could beat many of the cars ahead of me on race pace.

I opted to start on Hards just in case one of the 6 cars starting ahead of me also opted to do the same, as I didn't want to be held up in the early laps. It turns out, I was the only 1 of the first 8 cars to start on the Hards. I immediately lost a spot in T1 to another Corvette who'd started on the Mediums, but was quickly able to break the slipstream to 9th place so I didn't have to worry about pressure from behind, and I could just focus on trying to not let the frontrunners on Mediums get too far ahead. A stackup at the chicane on Lap 3 involved 3rd-7th helped with that endeavor, and I also gained a spot when an unfortunate Porsche spun as a result. A little while later, I passed the Corvette who'd passed me at the start as he'd eaten through his Mediums, putting me up to 6th. An RCZ that started further back on Mediums then caught and passed me at the beginning of Lap 7, and we both then passed another RCZ who'd lost it at the exit of T1. At the end of the lap I pitted that lap along with the RCZ and a few others. Coming out of the pits with a clear track (except for the RCZ who I pitted with), I immediately went for a pass at the chicane on RCZ that had just passed me the previous lap, since I now had the grippier tires. After the pits had (mostly) cycled through, I was back up into P6 and rapidly caught @Geauxgreddy in P5 who'd run SUUUUUUUPER long on the Mediums and jumped most of us in the pits as a result. He graciously signaled me by at the chicane since we were on different strategies, and I set off after the rest of the field. I eventually caught another RCZ in 4th after they caught the exit curbs of Coca-Cola wrong and nearly spun, and I went for the move in the chicane once again. Up next, 3rd, with 2nd only just outside their slipstream (1st was an alien who was long gone). I put the move on the Corvette in 3rd down the front straight at the beginning of Lap 14, then found that my Mediums were giving up at the end of the lap, which allowed him to close right back on me in Sector 3, and meant I could kiss my chances at 2nd place goodbye. I had to defend into T1, but thought I was far enough ahead at the chicane to not have to defend (repeating the mistake of my hero Lewis Hamilton in Abu Dhabi...). NOPE! He sent it up the inside and there was a bit of contact, but we both stayed on track. I tried to get a better exit out of the final corner, but came up just short of the podium, so I had to settle for 4th.

The 257 points make this my 3rd-best result of the season in Nation's, and for the first time all season I got a good result in Slot 1, and actually finished ahead of where I started in a Nation's race (yes, really), so overall I'm very pleased with the outcome, especially in the 1st slot and with no warmup beforehand. Still, I probably could've had 2nd if I'd started further up the field in the first place. Oh well, I shouldn't complain. Now that I finally have 5 results in Nation's, I'm done with FIA for the year!

Fuji International Speedway // Gr.3 - Corvette C7.R

WHAT. A. RACE.

My absolute worst track. Expected nothing. Only needed 70 FIA points to better my standings when the 5th score is counted, so had nothing to lose.

Qualified 12th, not that far off of my best FP time, which was only the pre-race session plus about 10 laps to re-familiarize myself with the Vette. Started on the harder tire, and just tried to keep it clean in the first stint since my pace would not be race-winning at all. Pitted from 11th, after 7 laps, trying to undercut the guys I couldn't keep up with directly in front, but they chose the same plan.

Came out of the pitstop where I went in, basically, in 11th. From there, tried to assess if anyone ahead was stuck with the harder tires for the rest of the race, and it looked like after a few laps the people in front were queueing up, so perhaps they were. Knew my Mediums would be somewhat worn by the last lap, but had to hope for the best.

Given my pace, I was ready to settle in and take the nominal points gain from 11th, especially since I stink at Fuji. But... the race started to come to me with four laps to go! I managed to climb from 11th to 6th with a lap to go, and was dogging the Vette in front of me, who seemed to be struggling on his tires much worse than me by now. So I glued myself to his bumper and hoped for the best.

I actually had a run on him on the penultimate trip up the long straight, but I eased off a little. I knew if I nailed it the last lap, I had a chance... and sure enough, I got just enough that I had a slight edge off the turn and I knew I was home free unless he blatantly cheated me... we raced to the line, ending just hundredths, if not thousandths apart. FIFTH! AT FUJI! I'm really thrilled with this result. It was also the most fun and clean race I've had in ages... kudos to all of the guys in the top 10 that was really good stuff.

The FIA points should secure me a top-50 final rating in the US, maybe in NA, and hopefully a "S" rating finally ... fingers crossed.

#7 / Q12 / R5 / 171 FIA points / ~800 DR (and a new top DR ever) ...super fun race

Kudos to this really fun grid... clean as any I've raced and very competitive. Good hard racing.

Fuji Gr3. Tried the Vette but it felt like a boat, too understeery for my liking. I almost go with my trusty F-type (I was quicker with it than the Vette) but ended up realizing I was much quicker with the RCZ. PB 37.4, less than a sec off the top TT time, not bad.

CSA Slot 3, door #19 in a surprisingly high for a 3rd slot, 320-point top split lobby. Went for slipstream qualifying behind the wrong guy, he made a mess of his lap and I had to abort my first flyer. Only to then be divebombed into T1 by another Argentinian in a Corvette in my second lap. Incredible to have people who don't use their heads and race in qualifying in a top split lobby... :banghead:

In such a lobby, not much I could do from P19 on the grid. Was P14 at the end, at least I had a very fun and clean battle for many laps at the end with a Bolivian driver for that P14. We fought hard for nothing as if the win was on the table  , both leaving each other space, obviously we were both going again anyway.

CSA Slot 4, door #11 on a 265-point top split. Poor qualifying, P10, then in the race quickly saw the RCZ's issue. Was being overtaken by Corvette's in the straight and then lose a lot of time in the infield section behind them. Top 5 would have been possible if I lost less time, but ended up finishing P9. Points wouldn't improve my score, so I decided to go again.

CSA Slot 5, door #14 on a 273-point top split, points actually went up compared to the previous slot. Completely bottled my first qualy lap, had just one chance with no banker on the final slot of the day. My second lap was 3 tenths off my PB, but at least, managed to get a lap in, P7 on the grid.

Started on hards, tried to make use of slipstream to avoid being overtaken by the power cars. Still lost a place to a Corvette in the main straight, down to P8. Pitted at the end of lap 7, which was probably a lap too late. Was undercut by another RCZ and exited right in traffic, behind him and another guy who was on old tyres. Lost enough time in traffic to make sure I didn't manage to undercut the guy right ahead of me who pitted on lap 8.

I was now in P9, the two guys ahead of me were fighting and slipstreaming each other so they were very tough to pass with my RCZ. I had to get creative and make a move in an unusual place. As they went side by side into the long right hander, I took a round line and was able to stick my car in the inside into the next left hander, without any contact. Now in P8, and with the guy ahead not having slipstream anymore, I managed to overtake the other Corvette into T1. Managed to do it thanks to being able to brake later, because when I actually pulled out of the slipstream, I started losing ground, had to tuck back in and go for a late braking move.

I was now in P7 and catching the group ahead on the opposite strategy, which went all the way up to P4. In the final lap, managed to catch the slipstream of the P2 Argentinian on the standings who was in 6th. Would have probably finished ahead if the finish line was after T1, but the short piece of straight from the last corner to the line was not enough.

P7 at the end, 205 points. Not 100% happy as I think I definitely could have scored more. But at least, I improved my score by a few points and guaranteed all my 5 counting scores to be over 200, which I'm very happy about. :)

FIA points should secure me a top-50 final rating in the US, maybe in NA, and hopefully a "S" rating finally ... fingers crossed.
They changed the S rating rules early this year. They are now only for World Series and World Finals qualifiers. So I don't think anyone will gain S rating from this exhibition season.

Dredge’s Alt Adventures: Chapter 14

Early pass from work saw my Alt able to enter the NA slot 4 at Fuji in the Vette. Door 4 starting 23087/99.

Struggled to hook up a lap in qualy and ended up Q2. 6H9M had worked on the main so thought I’d give it another go.

Early on lap 1 I tried to avoid trouble and followed an AMG in p1 closely. We finished the lap 3 seconds ahead of 3rd as some shenanigans played out in the pack. I then got past and into the lead down the SF straight. Holding a consistent half to full second for 5 laps before pitting I was pretty sure P2 had started on the Hards as well. I boxed lap 6 and he stayed out one extra.

A few careful overtakes of slower cars and I was feeling comfortable in some clean air. The AMG rejoined after the pit 2 seconds behind. Once everyone had pitted I was 2 seconds clear in the lead and the AMG then had a further 15 seconds or so to p3.

The last 6 laps saw me maintain my 2 second lead whilst the AMG and I put more space between us and p3. Ultimately I held on for the win. 2 seconds ahead of the AMG and 26 seconds ahead of 3rd.

111pts. 24561/99

Slot 1 -
Lobby opens up and I am door number 18 in 2nd split in North America! YESSSSSSS!!! In my lobby is GT Planet regular, @GTWolverine in Door 1!! We made it! LOL. So, I'm thinking this is my one and only shot at points. I had to go pick up food and would miss slot 2, and I was pretty sure slot 3 would put me in top split.

Well, my qualifying was terrible. Just awful So, I started p14 and had to figure out a way up front. What I noticed in this race, is battling was costing folks time, lots of time. So, I started on Mediums from way back to work my way forward without much resistance. LOL. That didn't work out. Got in a tangle after the hairpin in the technical section and lost every spot and I gained and more. So, decided to just test tires. Went 12 laps on Mediums and as soon as I saw @GTWolverine run me down like a dog, I hit the ole signal to let him by. I didn't want to slow him down, he was doing very well! Congrats on your finish @GTWolverine , well done, you are fast.

When the dust settled, I finished like 18th. Booooooo...hisssssss.... 83 points and a very sad Greddy.

Slot 3 - Top split, just as I figured. But Greddy is no quitter! I was going to get my 224 points! Unfortunately, the qualy was even WORSE than before. I started p18. EEEEEEkkkkkk. No worries, I would start Mediums and run a 9M 6H strat and do my damnedest to make clean passes. I did so! Slowly I worked my way forward and eventually landed in p13. I didn't get my 224 points, but I did have a great race! I even led at one point, lol. 174 points and that was it. Had to go pick up a kid from a party he was at and I had to put together my video (see below). One left to geaux for Nations.

so finally got some time to do GTS again, and looking forward to the last Manu race, really like the Sardegna B track.
Do not like that it is a sprint race on hards though...

Also: just checked the current standings in my friends ranking and noticed that it seems a certain handsome young Dutchman and an Englishman are tied in points with just one more race to go. Reminds you of something?

I never noticed.
I wonder what the qualifiers are? As in I have a higher single score than you but am listed behind.
If you score an 80 on Saturday you'll have it. I cannot do Christmas Day for obvious reasons.
Otherwise I'm happy and impressed to have levelled with you across the season.

Because of my new work hours now, I am only able to participate in FIA races during the later slots. But I'm not really bothered by this. With GT7 roughly just 2 months away now, we will see soon if the FIA seasons there keep this same Wednesday and Saturday format or if it changes.

NA Slot 5, A/S Lobby, Door #4, 185 points

Because I was in the last slot, which is at 12AM EST in North America, the points were quite lower than what I was used to seeing by now. I qualified 4th and started on Mediums. Boy, this race was pretty interesting. Right out of the gate, a Corvette on Hards that was behind me just dived in at T1 and squeezed past me on the inside. But they rightfully spun out immediately for that bonehead move. However, because of that incident the leaders were able to get away right at the beginning...

Not long after that, there was an incident between the top 3 at the start of lap 2 and I caught up to another Corvette in 2nd. And man, I have never seen someone defend so desperately before. This guy was holding on to 2nd place like his life depended on it. He was performing really aggressive defensive moves even though I wasn't making any attempt to overtake him. I'd rather sit in his slipstream, but he was clearly struggling as well. This went on until lap 7 when I decided to pit and an AMG managed to overtake both me and the Corvette on the final corner.

Coming out on Hards with the AMG in front of me, I sat in their slipstream and bump drafted them on the main straight for the majority of the stint. And thankfully we didn't encounter the Corvette from earlier that was hell bent on defending. 1st was also long gone at this point. I thought it was going to be a straight forward podium to the finish, but during lap 14 a RCZ caught up to us and complicated things. Long story short, we went three wide into T1 on the final lap, but unfortunately, I came out on the bottom of that battle. I couldn't gain anymore positions without doing a questionable dive of some kind, so I decided to just leave it.

I don't see myself doing the Mini race next week, so this is probably my last FIA race for this season, maybe even my last FIA race in GT Sport as a whole as it's looking likely that there won't be another season after this.

Final FIA race of the year for me, started in the final slot as I missed slot 4 and had #2 on the door. Qualified 3rd, which was pretty impressive considering there was no draft (A similar story to a earlier Manufacturers Series race at this exact same track in this exact same car). Race started and finally, Turn 1 lap 1 wasn't a problem for me. However, the Hards were..abit harder then I expected so I lost abit of time (and positions, going to 5th temporarily before the Mercedes picked up a penalty) in the first few laps but about lap 7 is when I started to gain abit due to the medium runners beginning to lose grip and alot of people started pitting on lap 8. I think I was one of only two people that pitted on Lap 10 and on the mediums I went. Immediately I was picking up time and on lap 12 just when I was thinking about whether I even could get on the podium, a massive incident happened with the Mustang and Mercedes taking each other out. Just like that, 3rd fell right into my lap and I only had one car to try and catch. Sadly however, I didn't quite possess the Lewis Hamilton Brazil GP amounts of speed so I had to settle. Can't say I'm mad overall, 8 races in FIA this year with all of them in the top 5, 7 of them ended on the podium and 1 win. Way better then I could've asked for 👍

Nice race you had there, so smooth and consistent from what I saw. I started in P6 and it was fun to watch that 3 way battle from a second or so behind until the end of the first stint. I fell away on the hards as it was a last minute decision to do this race at this slot in the RCZ and only got a few laps in on mediums before it started.

Think it is based on the number of races, perhaps?
I do think that the highest score should count and you should be above but:

Lucky for me we dont do Christmas this year and also not working tomorrow so i do have the oppertunity to race.

Think it will be a difficult one though, the gravel is deep here, and found out in practice that another driver can easily push you in the gravel will overtaking you, so will have to be cautious. Not very confident i can have a good result.

Unfrotunately GTblade is a bit broken so have no idea how my times compare to other B drivers. Main issue is that i seem to brake a bit earlier compared to other drivers....

anyway, quick bite and off to work, got christmas eve shift, so expect a quiet one, and hope to do a few more practice laps late evening.

Wish all a merry christmas and good luck to those who will race tomorrow!!!

On Wednesday, I entered Round 9 of this season of the Nations Cup. In the second slot, I finshed in third place with 35 points. I've decided that this would be my last Nations Cup race of the year. As a result, my final points total is likely stood at 171. My last FIA race for me this year will be on Saturday at the Manufacturers Series.

Like I said: you may have found your brand!

Quick query…assuming there won’t be many participating in the races tomorrow so will mean weaker lobbies with much lower points on offer? Especially the later slots?

I'd say there'll be a bigger spread of DR in each split, so there's a chance you could end up with a few people who are a lot quicker in a lobby with more points than normal or vice versa.

Lower points will be more noticeable in the top splits.

I don’t know. This is way bigger, gargantuan even, than the mid-season Mazda RX-Vision brand switch. PD do backwards stuff. Wouldn’t surprise me to see them have a short break when GT7 launches and continue the season with optional brand changes.

Definitely didn't expect that.

Ultra short 4 race season, or will the season continue halfway into GT7?

Or they continue to support GTS and GT7 at the same time?

Or (what everyone is dreading), this is a subtle hint that GT7 will be delayed :scared:
A delay to GT7 should be expected. All the previous editions of GT have been delayed.
