Championship football returns properly this weekend, I say properly because there was one game last weekend.

Most Premier League teams have headed to warmer climes for training camps ahead of the League's return after the World Cup.

Aberdeen played terribly against a dominant Celtic side, who deservedly won 1-0. It could’ve been 4, if Aberdeen hadn’t parked the bus.

Okay so with the World Cup now over top fight action returns this week.

Its the fourth round of the Carabao Cup up first, four games tomorrow night, three games on Wednesday night including Man United v Burnley on Sky and on Thursday its Man City v Liverpool also on Sky.

Premier League will resume on Boxing Day and on the 27th, all those games are live on Amazon Prime, the Premier League will be back on Sky and BT Sport from the 30th.

Carabao Cup Quarter Final Draw.

Man United v Charlton
Southampton v Man City
Nottingham Forest v Wolves
Newcastle v Leicester

Ties to be played w/c Jan 9th.

Man City knocked out Liverpool tonight 3-2 in a really good game with some good goals, Haaland, Mahrez and Ake on the scoresheet for City with Carvalho and Salah scoring for Liverpool, elsewhere League One Charlton beat Brighton on penalties to progress and are the only non-Premier League team left in the competition, They get an away tie to Man united who comfortably beat Burnley 2-0.

Here are the Premier League games over the Christmas period.

Boxing Day.
Arsenal v West Ham (8pm)
Aston Villa v Liverpool (5.30)
Brentford v Tottenham (12.30)
Crystal Palace v Fulham
Everton v Wolves
Leicester v Newcastle
Southampton v Brighton

Tuesday (27th)
Chelsea v Bournemouth (5.30)
Man United v Nottingham Forest (8pm)

Wednesday (28th)
Leeds v Man City (8pm)

All games are live on Amazon Prime.

Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁🎊🎉

Brentford 2-2 Spurs
Everton 1-2 Wolves
Leicester 0-3 Newcastle
Southampton 0-3 Brighton
Palace 0-3 Fulham
Villa 1-3 Liverpool
Arsenal 3-1 West Ham

Newcastle picked up where they left off with three first half goals, Palace went down to nine men after Mitchell and Tomkins were both sent off, Solly March hit a banger of a strike in Brighton's win over Southampton, Ait-Nouri won it for Wolves in the 94th minute which was a big blow for Everton, Brentford-Spurs was a great match in which Brentford went 2-0 up but Spurs had their now trademark comeback, could have been more comfortable for Liverpool with the chances they had, West Ham were 1-0 up at half time but Arsenal staged a second half comeback.

Dean Smith is the canary in the coal mine.

Kind of inevitable after he dumped on the fans saying they were hoping the team would suck over Christmas.

Chelsea 2-0 Bournemouth
Man United 3-0 Forest

Comfortable wins for the big teams last night, Havertz and Mount with Chelsea's goals, Rashford, Martial and Fred with United's goals.

Leeds v Man City is tonight and there are games over the New Year period starting with two games on Friday night, this weekends games are back on Sky and BT.

Liverpool have agreed a deal in prinicipal to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.

Leeds 1-3 Man City.

Comfortable and convincing by City with Haaland breaking records again, Rodri put City ahead right on half time and then Haaland scored twice in the second half. Struijk got a consolation for Leeds, that's 20 goals in just 14 league games now and he is the quickest ever to the 20 goal mark, he has also scored more goals than most Premier League teams including Chelsea.

Liverpool have signed Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven for a fee between £35-45 million, if he plays like he did at the World Cup then it would prove to be a bit of a bargain, Liverpool did have a lot of options up front before the Gakpo signing but Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are out with long term injuries so they moved quick to sign him. Man United were heavily linked with Gakpo and do need reinforcements in attack but there are some financial limitations in the up coming window so it seems we'll be aiming at the loan market.

Even flipping it to points per game puts us second behind Manchester City...

1 - Manchester City (PL) - 2.36ppg
2 - Sheffield Wednesday (L1) - 2.06ppg (2.063)
3 - Liverpool (PL) - 2.06ppg (2.058)
4 - Newcastle United (PL) - 2.03ppg

Moore out, etc.

West Ham 0-2 Brentford
Liverpool 2-1 Leicester
Wolves 0-1 Man United
Newcastle 0-0 Leeds
Bournemouth 0-2 Palace
Man City 1-1 Everton
Fulham 1-1 Southampton

Man City drop points at home to Everton, Haaland scored for City but Gray equalized with a terrific solo effort, James Ward-Prowse scored both goals with one being an own goal, he then banged in one of his trademark free kicks. Rashford was dropped to the bench after he overslept and was late for a team meeting, but he came on at half time to score the winner for United. Newcastle frustrated by Leeds.

In last nights games, Wout Faes scored two own goals in Liverpool's win and Liverpool were lucky as Leicester were the better team. Ivan Toney scored and assisted for Brentford but was then stretchered off. Brighton v Arsenal is on now and Arsenal have started brightly with Saka scoring after just a minute. They could extend the lead at the top with City only drawing.

Tottenham 0-2 Villa
Forest 1-1 Chelsea.

A lacklustre Spurs missed the chance to return to the top four following the defeat to Villa, an error from Lloris who was back in goal after the World Cup lead Buendia to score before Douglas Luiz doubled the lead, Spurs missed Bentancur and Kulusevski badly and the defeat increases pressure on Conte.

Chelsea perhaps surprisingly dropped points to Forest but the home team deserved it, Sterling put Chelsea ahead in the first half after hitting the rebound after the ball hit the bar, Aurier equalized from a corner and Forest did well and had their chances, Chelsea didn't do much in the second half.

A correction from yesterday's round up, Fulham actually beat Southampton 2-1 and it wasn't 1-1, Paulinha banged in a 88th minute winner and I didn't know until catching up on MOTD on Iplayer earlier!

January transfer window is now open.

------------------------------------------------------
Here are the games for this mid week.

Monday.
Brentford v Liverpool (5.30 Sky)

Tuesday.
Arsenal v Newcastle (7.45 Sky)
Everton v Brighton
Leicester v Fulham
Man United v Bournemouth (8pm)

Wednesday.
Aston Villa v Wolves
Crystal Palace v Tottenham (8pm Sky)
Leeds v West Ham
Southampton v Nottingham Forest

Thursday.
Chelsea v Man City (8pm Sky)

Southampton v Forest and Chelsea v Man City the big games there.

FA Cup third round is this weekend.

Brentford 3-1 Liverpool
Everton 1-4 Brighton
Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle
Leicester 0-2 Fulham
Man United 3-0 Bournemouth

Both Merseyside teams had a nightmare, Liverpool looked lethargic in their defeat as Brentford picked up another big win without Ivan Toney this time, Brighton scored three goals in less than six minutes in the second half, Everton just collapsed ans surely its another nail in Lampard's coffin, big point away from home for Newcastle in a feisty game.

Man City beat Chelsea 0-1 last night, it was quite close game but City upped their game in the second half, Mahrez with the goal from a great Grealish pass, more injury worries for Chelsea with Mount and Sterling going off early, Aubameyang was subbed on then subbed off.

Its the FA Cup third round this weekend, I wont post all the games as there are a lot of them but here are the games that are on TV.

Tonight.
Man United v Everton (8pm ITV)

Saturday.
Gillingham v Leicester (12.30 BBC)
Sheffield Wednesday v Newcastle (5.30 BBC)
Liverpool v Wolves (8pm ITV4)

Sunday.
Cardiff v Leeds (2pm ITV)
Man City v Chelsea (4.30 BBC)

Monday.
Oxford v Arsenal (8pm ITV)

A stunning win for Wrexham in the FA Cup, who have beaten Coventry City 4-3. At one point we were 4-1 up.

Brilliant. It wasn't even our strongest XI; at least three first-teamers were left out of the lineup.

Sheffield Wednesday knocked out Newcastle 2-1 in another shock, Bournemouth and Forest both knocked out by Championship opposition too, National League Chesterfield take West Brom to a replay after a 3-3 draw and were leading 3-2 at one point, Liverpool-Wolves will also go to a replay.

Such an amazing win for Wrexham, Parkinson going a great job and has got them well-organised, fantastic away support as always too.

Sheffield Wednesday knocked out Newcastle 2-1 in another shock
Pfft. As if that's a shock.

:sly:

Windass scored four... moments he was clearly offside all the way up until he netted the first. Absolutely ridiculous officiating, and lots of complaints on social media about VAR/GLT not being available in this match but being available in others in the same competition.

Second was a belter though. Genuinely excellent goal. Five in two games for Windass!

I've just caught the Liverpool-Wolves highlights - I normally don't care - and what the hell were the officials doing there? Salah clearly offside for Liverpool's second. The Tito decision was right though, offside in the build up and remained active throughout so interfering with play.

Another big shock in the cup today as League Two Stevenage stunned Aston Villa, Villa were 1-0 up and cruising but Stevenage scored two late goals to knock them out, Man City battered a beleaguered Chelsea 4-0, Leeds needed a 93rd minute equalizer to take Cardiff to a replay.

FA Cup fourth round draw.

Preston v Tottenham
Southampton v Blackpool
Wrexham v Sheffield United
Ipswich v Burnley
Man United v Reading
Luton/Wigan v Grimsby
Derby v West Ham
Stoke v Stevenage
Blackburn v Forest Green/Birmingham
Walsall v Leciester
Sheffield Wednesday v Fleetwood
Man City v Oxford/Arsenal
Bristol City/Swansea v Chesterfield/West Brom
Brighton v Liverpool/Wolves
Fulham v Sunderland
Boreham Wood/Accrington v Cardiff/Leeds

The draw was made before the City/Chelsea game weirdly, ties take place on weekend of 27th January.

Gareth Bale has retired from football, both club and international, at the age of 33.

The best Welsh player ever and one of the best British players ever, five Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles with Real Madrid, Wales most capped player and top scorer, a legend who will be missed.

Viva Gareth Bale.

What a statistic!

Arsenal beat Oxford 3-0 in the last FA Cup tie of the round, Arsenal struggled a bit in the first half but two goals from Nketiah and one from Elneny in the second half saw them through.

Tonight and tomorrow its the Carabao Cup quarter finals, Newcastle v Leicester is the game on Sky tonight with Man United v Charlton also on, tomorrow night its Southampton v Man City on Sky with Forest v Wolves also on.

Joao Felix has joined Chelsea on loan from Atletico Madrid for the rest of the season, Chelsea are paying a £9.7 million loan fee and all Felix's wages, Felix is on £250k a week and the deal is without an option to buy, its an insane deal and Chelsea have been extremely busy in this window so far, Felix is their fourth signing.

Man United have agreed a deal with Burnley for Dutch forward Wout Weghorst, it will be a loan deal but it is complicated by the fact that Weghorst is on loan at Besiktas so they will need to find a replacement, I know Weghorst isn't quite the calibre of player that United should be signing but we do need a striker and Ten Hag's hands are tied by the fact there is no money available thanks to the Glazers, but Weghorst is still a good striker who scored at the World Cup, I think he will do a good job for us.

United beat Charlton 3-0 and Newcastle beat Leicester 2-0 in the League Cup quarters last night.

There was a big shock in the cup last night as Man City were knocked out by bottom-of-the-table Southampton, Mara and Djenepo with the goals in the first 20 minutes against a sloppy Man City, Djenepo goal was a great strike as he lobbed Ortega from 30 yards out, Forest beat Wolves on penalties in the other quarter final after a 1-1 in normal time (no extra time) Forest will face Man United in the semi finals with Southampton taking on Newcastle.

Its Fulham v Chelsea in the league tonight, its a re-arranged game from earlier this season and not part of the weekends games, Tjere is a Premier League game on tomorrow night however.

Here are this weekend's games.

Tonight
Aston Villa v Leeds (8pm Sky)

Saturday
Brentford v Bournemouth (5.30 Sky)
Brighton v Liverpool
Everton v Southampton
Man United v Man City (12.30 BT)
Nottingham Forest v Leicester
Wolves v West Ham

Sunday
Chelsea v Crystal Palace
Newcastle v Fulham (2pm Sky)
Tottenham v Arsenal (4.30 Sky)

Couple of big derby games and some big games at the bottom.

Fulham beat Chelsea 2-1 last night, Joao Felix was sent off on his debut for Chelsea.

How the actual **** did they determine that wasn't offside?

What even are rules now?
