Been seeing a bunch of posts on actual social media about who should replace Noah Gragson in the JRM #9 next year. My thoughts in order are Kaz Grala Kyle Weatherman Josh Williams Gray Gaulding and Timmy Hill

I think JR's gonna poach a truck series driver. Hocevar comes to mind.

Imagine missing a portion of one of the most important races of the season because preseason football is going on at the same time. Oof.
And this is why NASCAR is eventually going to leave broadcast networks, creating their own streaming service.

Good news for Blaney and Truex I guess, starting to wonder if we’ve seen Kurt’s last race though.

Edit, tree'd by 1 minute. This is why I was curious if Reddick was moving to 23XI not to be a 3rd driver, but to be a 2nd driver. The latter could very well come into play.

Going back to the playoff scenario, while Blaney is not locked in, I cannot see a realistic scenario where he falls out. In order for Blaney to miss the playoffs, he would essentially need to be out of contention (36th or lower) before the end of stage 1, Truex would need to run in top 5 in all 3 stages, and there would have to be a new winner. Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? No.

A simplified breakdown by NASCAR on Fox lol

Yeah, I imagine Blaney is breathing a sigh of relief. A disaster would have to happen where Truex passed him in points AND and a new winner crossed the line first. A 25 point cushion is fairly comfortable, though getting caught up in a wreck is more likely at a plate race. Still, he has points to give. Or it will be moot if there's a repeat winner.

This really sucks for Kurt. Just how hard did he hit the wall that would cause these symptoms to continue like they are? I fear he may just call it quits on his career if he doesn't start recovering more quickly. And if he retires, will Reddick move over a season early to get a jump start with his new team? I think Silly Season is about to get sillier.

If he has to retire, then what might happen is Kyle Busch might step into the 45 for a season if he doesn't re-up with Gibbs or Ty will stay running the 45 for 2023. I don't think Reddick will be an option next year.

I do wonder what will happen with Ty. No doubt the kid has talent. I could potentially see him foregoing a second season in the Busch Xfinity Series and running the 45 next year instead. He may get to his gramps' Cup team sooner than expected, though he would have to clean up his driving a tad as he's already ruffled some feathers.

So what you're saying is he's a baby Busch?

Could be. The question is which one? You could say both Kurt and Kyle were kind of hotheads when they broke into the series. Kurt was humbled by running a handful of years in crapboxes and had quite the attitude change. Kyle has stayed grumpy.

Apart from the incident with his injury, he's never had the sort of Wake up that Kurt ended up getting as he's only ever driven good equipment. Maybe we're about to that see that?

Kurt's attitude change happened because he was accused of domestic violence by Patricia Driscoll and he started working with an image consultant after he was cleared of charges. Additionally, he also removed "The Outlaw" from his name on the car right after that.

I forgot about that whole debacle. To think a false accusation led him to better himself is something.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Kurt announce retirement, after Dale Jr's concussion issues.
I'm sure he's going to be giving it serious consideration at least. It's not like he has much left to prove in the sport anyway, nor much more time left to prove it.

I don't know that it's necessarily how hard he hit but rather this being the hit where all his previous concussions finally caught up with him.

That period of Kurt's life really was crazy, I'm not sure many drivers could go through everything he did and rebound in the same fashion.

Maybe Jimmy Spencer's punch to his head in 2003 finally caught up with him. :)

Makes me really wonder how many concussions he's suffered before that hit and how they play a role

I remember watching Troy Aikman play football toward the end of his career and the slightest hit would knock him out with a concussion because his brain was already so battered at that point.

Wonder if the same thing happened to Kurt. The hit didnt look really huge, but it obviously upset something. He has to retire if his body isnt capable of taking hits anymore.

I'd find it difficult to believe Kyle doesn't get into it with Joe Gibbs like Kurt would get into it with Roger Penske.

If Kyle's like his brother, he's entering the "crap team" phase, where he'll be in sub par equipment and probably receive a wakeup call.

I don't see him going to 23XI, Denny probably won't have any of Kyle's attitude, and Jordan probably will boot him the moment he pops off.

To think the incidents with Jimmy Spencer, culminating with the punch that led to his Rubberhead nickname, the traffic incident in Phoenix that led to his early dismissal mid-playoffs from Roush, and his mid-2012 suspension for swearing at a reporter while on probation, among other things, didn't change his attitude.

Sooo...about the pre-race coverage? The PGA Tour Championship has had a weather delay, and NBC can't be bothered one damn bit to tell us where to catch the NASCAR stuff. I don't see it on USA or CNBC. I would assume it's only on Peacock at the moment?

Edit: They finally decided to put on the NASCAR coverage once they found out they wouldn't resume golf. Would have been nice to know what their plan was before that, though. Not that it matters. Apparently it's raining everywhere but where I live.

I wonder what the plan is if they can't get the race in at all? Because looking at the forecast that's a very real possibility.
