Haven't watched NASCAR, more of a Formula 1 guy but this caught my attention since I live in Illinois. The street race was very exciting, usually when I think of NASCAR, I just think of the oval.

Nice performance by SVG but surprised not much talk about Christopher Bell. I thought he was amazing and got screwed by the pit stop situation which caused hit to try to hard to make back position and spin out. But I guess it's like Formula 1 when it comes to yellow flags and stuff. That's just the way it goes sometimes.

You really have to feel for Justin Haley. Being beaten by someone who's come in for a cameo and take away a playoffs spot must suck. None of the Kaulig cars are ever going to get into the playoffs on points so a win for them would've been absolutely huge and a much more compelling story than an established road-course specialist winning on debut in a car not too dissimilar from his own. Haley is one of the underdogs and seeing him win would've been delightful. At least for me anyway. No, I don't hate Shane Van Gisbergen as he's one of the world's best drivers, but everything was in his favour with the newer tyres, tricky conditions and a brand new street track that nobody had ever raced on before. You expect him to excel in those circumstances, no matter what car he drives. Put him on an oval and then we'll see what's what.

In another desperate attempt to keep the 51 charter (the team is currently in 33rd, 1 point ahead of the 42 and a third straight bottom-3), Rick Ware Racing is bringing Cole Custer back for 3 races, starting with the Atlanta race this weekend.

There are a couple changes this weekend at Atlanta, one new one and one a repeat of the March race:
  • Repeating the extension granted in March, at Atlanta, Cup teams will have 8 minutes and Xfinity teams 7 minutes under the Damaged Vehicle Policy, an extension of a minute.
  • Under green-flag conditions, the pit road speed limit for the first 2 sections (from the new entrance to the old per Bob Pockrass) will be 90 mph. The pit road speed limit for the rest of pit road under green, as well as the entire extended pit road under yellow, will remain 45 mph.

SVG's win just says how good these Aussie guys are in sedans on road courses. Wicked fast.

It doesn't say anything bad about the talent in the Cup series. People forget Jenson Button was in this race. SVG made him look bad too.

These Cup drivers have raced against Kimi Raikkonen on road courses. It's just that the Aussie drivers are really, really good at what they do

I hope SVG goes Cup full time next year

I agree, the Kiwi and Aussie drivers are amazingly fast on road and street courses. I'd love to see Van Gisbergen in a Cup car just to see how he'd fair on the ovals. Daytona, Darlington, North Wilkesboro, Bristol. That would be fun to watch.

He'll get his arse handed to him.

It all depends on what team Van Gisbergen ends up on. Put him on Trackhouse, Hendrick, Gibbs/23XI, or perhaps Childress or Penske, and he'll do all right. Put him on, say, Rick Ware (like Button), and he'll have problems.

Anheuser-Busch to Trackhouse/Chastain is basically official.

It really is kind of concerning when it comes to SHR, it's almost to the point where I have to wonder if downsizing is in the cards.

That, along with a Rick Ware Racing downsize (voluntary or otherwise - the 51 is only 2 points ahead of 34th, and since RWR moved the 15's charter there before the season began, a bottom-3 points finish would result in NASCAR seizing the charter), would open the door to JR Motorsports. NASCAR's longer-term problem is that other than JRM, nobody not already in Cup appears ready to run a full-time Cup team, and the current Cup teams aren't looking to expand.

Tonight's the Slinger Nationals, with a bunch of NASCAR stars, present and past (defending champ and current Cup points leader William Byron, Chase Elliott, Erik Jones, Ty Majeski, and 7-time winner Matt Kenseth), trekking up to the world's fastest quarter-mile oval. Racing America has it on a $30 online PPV.

Round 12 of the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series races tonight at Nashville Superspeedway.
Live at 9ET.

Since the race is on a Monday, that means Martin Truex Jr. will win, as he did today in the Crayon 301.

Well, that's one way to keep a charter. I wonder if this allows Hemric to move up to Cup.
