What you described is exactly what happens when "brain drain" occurs in authoritarian nations. The Soviet Union for example suffered heavily during the Cold War when many of their most educated professionals, scientists, and educators left and went to Europe and the US.

They did pack their bags and leave, and a couple decades later the USSR collapsed both economically and technologically. They no longer had anybody who knew how to do anything specialized.

Do you want that to happen to the US? I'm not sure how things are economically in Appalachia but I can afford to leave and I do have highly transferrable certifications. That could be one less good guy for America.

There was no "enough". Harris did basically everything right. It wasn't enough. As @dylansan suggested, turnout was lower overall, with Trump getting 74m votes in 2020 compared to 72m in 2024, while Biden got 81M vs Harris's 67M, a spectacular underperformance by 14M votes, holy cow. Fourteen million people just...didn't. They either didn't like her or they didn't care anymore, because Trump's numbers didn't increase either. The map is going to be a complete reversal of the previous one with simlar margins in the opposite direction, while all other states are tigher wins for Harris or bigger losses.

Not all of the votes have been counted yet, so it will be closer (probably under 10M), but that doesn't change that take away. California is at 55%. There are 3 swing states currently where Harris received more votes than Biden in 2020 - Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina (barely).

Honestly, if the people at the Wharton School would have a spine, they would have revoked Trump's degree as soon as he uttered the words that tariffs will be paid by foreign countries. Unless I win the jackpot, I will never have the funds to send any of my girls to an Ivy League school but if that's the level of knowledge their students come out with, I don't they're worth the price anyway

One of the main things he has hinted at, which people are doom-and-glooming, is a national abortion ban. This would be a massive deal to me, and I'd basically pack up my family right away. But I do wonder if he'll actually do it. Donald is not all that pro-life. I don't think he much cares about the issue, and it was a big headache for him. Part of me thinks he would just leave it like it is so that he doesn't stir up unrest. The American people do not like abortion bans, even in the south. And while what the American people don't like is somewhat immaterial at this point, it is a headache for Trump, and he is lazy and hates to be disliked.

Exactly. That’s why if he actually wants to keep inflation low, he won’t do what he said, which is more likely. He might also do it, but maybe delay it coming into effect until he leaves office, which will make him technically correct. However, since facts don’t matter anymore and are woke these days, that may not be even an issue.

That’s why, in my mind, voting for a president based on “economy” is just a cop out for people. Both parties aren’t that far apart from each other in terms of what they actually end up doing if you cut all the ********, with reds favoring the rich a bit more. What IS something that president and people behind them do have a lot of impact on are social freedoms and granting or taking rights away.

Although, I do have to say, that if musk is going to be listened to and run the show, Fox News and social media influencers will have to work overtime to spin economy tanking as democrats’ fault. I thought Kamala would have made a great President. She should have won by a lot. I don't understand why Democrats don't get out and vote especially when it seems they did in 2020. Trump actually LOST votes from 2020 and still won. Whether it was Gaza or the economy or whatever, one candidate was Trump and one was Harris. Here's how I see Trump's term playing out. First I don't think he will see out the full term. I don't see his health holding out that long. Hopefully once you cut the head off of the snake, the body will die.

I think MAGA will try and run every single aspect of American life. Movies, tv, podcasts, books, schools, everything. They will see it as some sort of order from god that they have the responsibility to do it. He will follow through on his threat to arrest anyone that makes fun of him or mocks him in any way. He's not going to sit back like his last term and allow parodies of him. And I think that will flow down to civilian life. If I do a Trump impression or make a joke against him at work, somebody will call the local gestapo office and report me and I'll be fined or arrested or both.

They are going to try and force christian views on everybody. Creation will now be taught in all schools and evolution will be scrubbed from any lesson plans. Any teacher caught teaching any evolution will be prosecuted,. It will be like the Scopes Monkey Trial all over again.

School prayer will come back in. Just try and be the kid or kids with some intelligence and don't pray. Little Johnny and his parents will be prosecuted.

There will be Oval Office endorsed violence carried out by MAGA against anything deemed to be "bad" for society. In June you will see Pride parades attacked and people will be killed and of course, Trump will pardon them and they might not even be arrested at all. Any kind of protest at all will be met by violence. Police brutality will be encouraged and excused.

LGBTQ and Trans people will be attacked by MAGA in the hopes they can totally eliminate them from American society. Same sex marriage is definitely gone.

In the holiday season, if a Trump supporter tells you "Merry Christmas" but you reply with "Happy Holidays", you will either be attacked by them or arrested.

That's just how I see things playing out.
