Sitting quietly waiting for Trump supporters to say how great he’s handling things, when all kinds of things get worse

Just for the record, my oldest Son and all my family are still in the states except for one cousin, his wife and child in the UAE, one cousin and his partner in Pampanga and one young cousin living in Spain. I pray the USA to do better, but dammit!… dude was caught with his pants down, hand in multiple cookie jars, found guilty by a jury of his peers and people just let full grown gremlins in the front door. Not even Mogwais and accidentally feed them past midnight…Straight up Wagyu from Jacks Creek! Just inane, man.

This is the wake up alarm. Not that woke mess.

I feel a new age of mercantilism is upon us. Worked out great last time.

I'm still genuinely surprised how Trump won, though not super surprised that he did. He didn't win by significantly improving on his past performances...he won because democratic voters simply didn't turn out. Did people just forget that he was terrible? Why are people so lazy? Where did those 10 million people go?

Yea, people forgot he was terrible. They also don't believe in female leadership.

Ease of voting and high motivation is what allowed for 2020's numbers. There was tremendous incentive to get the Fake Bake bitch out and so Biden won handily. Voting was a little harder in 2024 than in 2020, though easier than any year prior, but it was less urgent to keep the Fake Bake bitch out.

Spoilers weren't nothing, and they certainly made a difference given turnout, but the turnout was a huge factor.

Trump's nomination of a Fox News host as Defense Secretary looks like it's entirely aimed at removing women from the military. It's also insane to give a rando from fox news that kind of role over the US military.

Equally insane to create the DOGE role considering GAO already exists, as @Famine already pointed out. I just hope they avoid putting worm dude anywhere near the CDC AND maybe GAO can run a shadow campaign showing all of the wasted money spent by Trump's team.
 
I'm of two minds on the Fox News guy being Defense Secretary.

On the one hand, discriminating against women and destroying the amazing careers of our female veterans is absolutely terrible, and will cause much hardship for them and their families. And it will set women back permanently for military service, not just in the US but around the world. Because women will be wary of signing up for a career that can be capriciously destroyed by dumb voters and dumb leaders. It is a VERY long road to recover the progress we've made on women serving. So ousting them doesn't just cause short term pain, it sets equality back for a long time.

On the other hand... do I want someone competent in this job? Do I want more people in the US military? If ousting the women and having an incompetent Defense Secretary sets our military back while Trump is in charge of it, that's probably not a bad thing. He's going to install a loyalist, at least he can install an incompetent loyalist.
 
I just want to say a few things for the record.

I apologize for the tone that I used in much of this discussion. It was unnecessarily antagonistic, and I don't like that I allowed frustration to turn into snark and meanness.

I apologize for any implication that voting for Harris was in some way unethical or wrong. As I said, I would likely have voted for her in different circumstances, but I decided not to for reasons related to both strategy and my personal philosophy, which I don't hold anyone else to.

I apologize for the confidence in which I made claims about why Harris lost. I still believe important factors are underdiscussed or ignored, but of course I can't claim to know how things would have gone in other circumstances.

Regardless, it is not Harris' fault that she lost. The blame lies with Trump and Trump voters. But if other voters had a moral responsibility to stop Trump (and I don't personally think they do) then it would be fair to apply that same standard to Harris, and much of my frustration comes from a feeling that the actions of voters are considered more critically than the actions of politicians themselves.

I still disagree with many of you on these topics, and I don't expect that to change. But that isn't an excuse for me to act like an ass, so again, I'm sorry.

I'm afraid I find that unlikely. I didn't vote for Hillary in 2016 and I haven't felt any guilt over that.

I try not to blame myself for things outside of my control, or for the actions of others (i.e. Trump voters).
 
I assume that Trump is doing a Bernie Ecclestone with Gaetz because I can't imagine even the most rubber of stamps that the Republicans in the Senate are going to give him would let that one through.

For me January is normally about spectating the Rolex 24 from Daytona. Next year, I hope the revolution is broadcast live, in HD, national collapse would be way more entertaining, though I'm not sure how I'd handle the drinking games. Reminds me of when CNN were on MOAB watch during Gulf War 2.5, and my local's lock in during the attempted Turkish coup.

It's funny how when you elect bad actors they find ways to dismantle the system. I kinda doubt that Trump bypasses Senate confirmation given that the Senate is republican. That might have been a higher priority if it weren't.
 
I mean Trump had boxes and boxes of classified material in his bathroom unmonitored in a building that basically anyone could go into; even if Trump himself wasn't an easily manipulated fool that Putin has all but said is a useful idiot. I don't think Tulsi Gabbard could actually be worse, realistically.

I'm not sure that was the issue in reality.

Anyone who has a problem with a female president was going to vote for Trump anyway.
