Welcome to the 2025 World Endurance Championship! After an incredible 2024 season with a massive Hypercar field and the brand new LMGT3 class, we are ready to witness yet more action from a series that just keeps delivering. Aston Martin are stepping up to the plate with their V12-powered Valkyrie hypercar, whilst JOTA has switched to Cadillac after serving as a Porsche customer team in 2024. BMW have got a hold of former F1 driver Kevin Magnussen as they mount a full-on assault against the top brass of Toyota, Porsche and Ferrari. On the LMGT3 side, Mercedes-AMG have entered the fold with Iron Lynx as Lamborghini calls it quits for the time being. The Iron Dames have turned back to Porsche with the help of Manthey, and the combination of Sean Galeal and Darren Leung move over to United Autosports. A few other drivers have been shuffled around as well but whatever way you cut it, there's sure to be a bunch of new storylines!

With the imminent closure of the Eurosport channels in the UK it looks like the WEC coverage, and Le Mans in particular, will be heading behind the TNT/Discovery premium paywall.

It won't be until 2027, but Ford is planning on running a LMDh program, including LeMans in WEC. There was no mention of whether they'll also do IMSA (the home series of the LMDh).
Sounds like they will be doing IMSA but they wanted the Le Mans return to be the headline

A spokesman for Ford Performance explained that announcing WEC allowed it to place emphasis on its return to Le Mans as a contender for outright victory. It can be expected, however, that Ford will join the IMSA GTP grid with its new LMDh.

Ford vs Ferrari - Le Mans '27 - someone book Damon & Bale for the sequel.

Add the heavily rumoured McLaren LMDh and the future is looking quite bright.

So that means we'll have Ford, Genesis and potentially McLaren on the grid by 2027. Depending on how things go with the LMGT3 Program, I could see Mercedes potentially looking at joining the Hypercar class at some point, too. I'm pretty sure there's also been rumblings of Meyer Shank Racing wanting to take one of the Acura LMDh cars to Le Mans at some point.

Gotta say, I'm impressed by how seemingly healthy the LMDh/Hypercar formula is. The only thing that worries me is the future of the LMGT3 class. I distinctly remember the FIA saying that they'd be willing to sacrifice LMGT3 slots for more Hypercars in the WEC, but I'm hoping that, if anything, they'll just increase the grid slots instead, provided the tracks holding races can handle it.
