What are the differences between GT1 and GT2 cars? Just wondering why GT2 can be faster than pretty much all of GT1.

Well the GT2 cars are ahead mostly in this race because the GT1 cars have been riddled with mechanical issues, crashes and so on. I know the Young Driver AMR DBR9 is running a bigger air restrictor and has a higher ride height than in previous years also. But i'm not sure about the other GT1 cars' specifications.

I was just talking to somebody about this and it's great loss to me, as it's the backbone of sportscar racing for me. With no GT1 DBR9's or Lambo's next year, and new LMP1 rules I think this is the last year of the V12 engine.

:(

The GT1 cars weigh more, have less power and less downforce compared to last year. At the same time the GT2 cars have had no changes like that and have kept their development curve intact. So from around 12 s difference last year, to about 3 s now. And that is between the fastest GT1 and 2´s. Even I think it´s a good idea to scrap GT1 for next year.

Ok cool, I guess the fact that they are so close is the reason they are getting rid of GT1 next year like the AMLS did this year. Does the fact that there was no GT1 in ALMS this year pretty much represent the closeness this year or has it always been like that.

1. Better reliability
2. Higher level of professionalism
3. Better backing up from the manufacturers
4. Small differences between class performance
5. Better drivers

Just some of the things that come to mind. The pole time for both classes was only 3 seconds which is almost nothing for two different classes. Also, don't forget some of those teams in GT2 are incredibly professional (pointing at the 'Vettes, Flying Lizard and Risi now) and have been involved in Le Mans for so long now and the reliability of the GT2 sees to be a gazillion-billion times better.

This year all 5 of those factors don't really apply to GT1. All the teams in GT1 this year are smaller outfits and have little manufacturer backing. There are several rookies too.

The gap between GT1 and GT2 used to be much, much bigger. It used to be like the gap between LMP1 and LMP2. When the difference is only 3 seconds it doesn't sound anything else than logical to make those two classes one single class. Because, really, the GT1 has been quite the joke compared to the GT2 class so far. Although I need to admit the GT1 class became retarded ever since the Marc VDS car retired

Which is what I mentioned? 💡

In the past GT1 cars where several seconds faster. Though at that time there was still factory support in GT1 behind the Vettes and the Astons. now that theres no factory support in that class development is just not as fast as it was with the privateers.

The GT1´s was actually so fast that they used to end up in the top ten after 24 hrs, and the first ones some way ahead of the first P2´s.

Hey Tommi2000, RLM just gave a shout-out to JLOC...still running!

As they would say...subarashi desu ne! Banzai! :D

It was nice to hear them praised for once.:)

Labre Saleen still running nicely in first.👍

I'm sorry, but John Hindhaugh's cheeky laugh at hearing the Corvette's engine firing...priceless, and probably would be my reaction as well :sly:

Glad to hear the #63 is okay, was a little worried initially. Heading towards halfway, and I'm probably going to turn in in a little while, and return at sunrise.

EDIT: Good night Bram! Catch you in the morning :)

I think someone needs to try the Facebook page once again tomorrow morning. Still crossing my fingers they'll mention us but that chance is getting slim now...

I might try again in a couple of hours or wait until later in the morning as not everyone here will hear it. But we need a mention either way, I got us twice at the N24 and we were mentioned twice here last year so one this weekend can't be that hard.👍

And Goodnight.:)
