Kazunori Yamauchi Shares His Top-Four Favorite Gran Turismo Titles

This description continues to circulate, despite even a casual viewing of his works demonstrating that it's very much not the case. We've seen him strive for many goals that were not able attainable (as many people do), but we've seen very little of him being self-critical for failing to do so.

Maybe a better term would be pedant... :P

Maybe he can give us a list of his favorite videogames of all time? My guess: Motor toon GP, Omega Boost and Tourist Trophy might make it in the list?:D

For me:

1: GT:Sport demo

Everything else is way too long ago and Forza brainwashed me the last couple of years. :D

If the full game is more of the same (other than needed improvements to the server), it will be awesome. Hopefully it can bring people back to the franchise that left for Forza, PCars, etc.

Speaking for myself here.
In the case of Forza, absolutely! I left GT6 for FM6 2 years ago because the grass looked greener on the other side and PD was nowhere near a new GT title for the new console. FH2 was actually my first Forza game and it was awesome, I liked FM6 as well and enjoyed FH3 a lot. But the underlying tone of these games is that all Forza's feel pretty much the same. I got FM7 as well and bam, that tone hit me hard since I was already bored with it after the early access weekend, go figure. Friction assist, rewind buttons, a silly ragdoll making idiotic movements in front of my car, loot crates, some cheap sounding rock music in menus, .... it is very obvious the last 2 years Turn 10 has been focusing on making their game appeal to the kids while at the same time pleasing Microsoft to deliver a 4k HDR tech demo for the XBox 1 X, instead of improving their core gameplay.

GT:S has on paper always been the weakest of the 3 big racing games for me. Poor track roster, poor car sound, no dynamic time of day or weather, no classic cars, so many features cut from GT6. I was not even remotely close to interested in it. Well, this past week was absolutely amazing, I even doubted if I should get the GT:S demo or not but since I recently switched to unlimited broadband I thought: why not. Coming back to the GT:S demo was a real eye-opener. But it took me 3 days, the demo really grew on me. First day I was impressed but didn't plan to buy the game yet, second day I didn't even play since I was watching some more Super GT races on NISMO TV, third day I played again and I believe the 4th day I even pre-ordered the digital deluxe edition. :)

The contrast of the mature feeling of GT:Sport with the kiddie feeling of FM7 couldn't be any bigger IMO. I absolutely love the calm and peaceful menu music, the scapes are absolutely great, I love the overall presentation and the brand museums + brand videos are like a nice interactive car encyclopedia. the campaign things like driving school feel so properly implemented (in contrast to Forza's overly annoying autocross or car bowling), I'm actually happy to win a single car from completing a row of missions in GT:Sport while in FM7 I don't even care about the 600+ cars I unlocked because some cars I already had in up to 4 previous Forza games. Back to GT:S it has the best singleplayer time-trial boards where per track i can compare all my own times with different cars and compare the cars that way. And GT:Sport does bring back some nostalgia like the cursor movement with the D-pad, those familiar menu click sounds and things like that, really nice. :) But the racing itself and the car engine sounds.... I'm still not really sold on that and that brings me to the next point.

PCARS 2 is for me the best racing game/sim I played so far, I absolutely love everything about it. No way GT:Sport will ever replace that authentic racing feeling I get from PCARS 2, it might be great fun as a game though but in the realism for a driving sim, it's not even close. But it doesn't have to be, GT:Sport complements PCARS 2 just perfectly. They are both the big winners for me personally of the big fall releases while FM7 is the sore loser. But PCARS 2 is a complicated game made by a small studio on a much smaller budget of what the big boys at Microsoft and Sony have. So there have been quite a lot of bugs, the first major patch is out and it fixes a lot, but there is still a lot left to fix and improve (which I'm sure will be done over time). With PCARS 2 I have this feeling that I better wait a bit before I fully immerse myself into career mode so I decided to wait with that until I have my XBox 1 X (and a few more patches are released for the game). In the mean time I played some Forza but since it's so boring I've put that on the side as well until I have the X1X, in the hope the 4K HDR will rejuvenate it a bit for me. So the GT:S launch comes at a good time. :)

From what I've seen GTS has the potential to be the best GT game. At least IMO.
I agree. I just don't want to judge the full game based off of the demo. My only real complaint of the game is the tire model. I feel like it is pretty unrealistic past the limit.

I agree on just about everything you are saying. My biggest complaint about GT Sport so far has got to be the tire model. Cars just spin when pushed to hard, and when countersteer is applied, the cars always snap too hard. Very weird on cars like the Miata and M4. They are supposed to be easy on the limit (I have driven a M4 and a M4 CP and they are almost to good),but they snap just like the race cars. Plus when "drifting", the cars just slideoff the track. Gone are the days of GT5 and GT6.

The way Kazonuri said his favourite games in Barcelona games week sounded really more as pure comercial speech, just after saying that he started to sign posters for the the fans that where around.

Nice "comercial" race between some Spanish professional racers as Albert Costa Balboa, Dani Clos and some more.

My top 3 of GT are

GT4
GT3
GT2

Good list. I just never identified with GT3 because it was before my time of gaming. GT4 was the first on for me, and in my opinion just better. But the more I play GT3, the more I like it.
I remember playing GT3 firstly when I was 3 on my uncles ps2 lol (I'm 17) it was awesome! Then as I became older, I understood the GT games a lot more & I got millions of entertainment from GT3. The cars, the sound of the cars, soundtrack (Feeder, Ash, Death in Vegas, Daiko Kashio (don't know how to spell it)) the feel of the game & the tracks! It was amazing. The GT mode was brilliant too. In my opinion. :)

That's the final insult.. GT Sport number 1. After years of over promising yet under delivering, insulting and disrespecting loyal fans, now, finally, demonstrates how little he cares for the fans by calling out GT Sport as number 1. No logical or rational person could possibly say that.

There's no other option. The point of developing a new game is to make it better than previous, so if he didn't say GTS is the best, he would already admit that they wasted years and achieved nothing.

Untrue. There are more options in between best vs. wasted years and achieved nothing.

I absolutely agree with everything you said.
The key, IMO, is the "PC2 complements GTS perfectly"
Glad to see someone gets it, instead of complaining about campaing mode and whatever GTS is missing, appreciating what GTS brings to the sim racing world.
PC2 its perfect (aside some bugs) for carrier mode, custom v AI races with weather and live track, puddles (omg the puddles), night, day, pit stops, etc etc.
But GTS its the most polished game I've played based on the demo, plus the homologation and online competitiveness has been nothung but great, and the best graphics i have seen on a racing game. and my new favorite: livery editor. The physics are different from other sims, but I fell they are perfect for online racing.

I'll be spending the coming months between PC2 and GTS, plus some occasional Asseto Corsa maybe just for driving the P1 GTR on the Nordscliefe.
I am really happy that I have several options and my only struggle will be deciding what to play.

for me:
1: GT6
2: GT5 (best online gameplay so far, mainly because everyone was playing it)
3: GT4 (content wise)
4: GT2 (all the millions of hours i played it)

Agree on the polished feeling, anno 2017 I guess you can only get it at this level of near-perfection anymore from the humble Japanese mentality. :)

On the multiplayer aspect in GT:Sport, I didn't even try Sport mode or any multiplayer in the demo at all (apart from qualifying to check out the map) since I don't have a PSN+ subscription. Until now all my multiplayer games are on my XBox (with Gold membership) and I have the PS4 Pro only for those great Sony exclusive singleplayer games (Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted 1-4, The last of Us). I will start playing GT:Sport without PSN+ though, there is plenty of singleplayer content to get started with. Depending on multiplayer & Sport mode feedback from other players I might get PSN+ as well just for this game. I already watched some of the demo videos from streamers and multiplayer looked quite good, I really liked the fact that cars ghost out incredibly fast so it's not the destruction derby carnage of a Forza game. :) Check out this video at 8:48 until 8:50 what happens in those 2 seconds with a car coming in way too hot in a corner :

Realistic no? There is no alternative reality realm where the ghosts live.
Good for fun multiplayer? Absolutely yes!
