3D Modelling, Post your 3D models! (Cars, Planes, People, Landscapes etc!)

It works fine for me... Are you sure you have the plug in for it to work?

ooohhhh... the plugin... actually, no I didn't I just downloaded Kerkythea and expected it to open skp files..... huh... guess RTFM applies..

so..

On to my first attempt at 3D stuff.

To get some practice I decided to model the factory/warehouse at work. Since we are having a mezzanine floor put in and there would be lots of re-arranging of stuff, I agreed with my boss that it could be a project I'd do officially for work. I must stress that I've never really done any 3D stuff at all before...

I could put more detail in, however, once they are dumped into the file that contains the warehouse and all it's fixtures, fittings and equipment, (one) of my computer(s) falls over, so I've had to limit the detail. It's an 8000sqft factory so there is much to do. I'm about half way there, these are just afew of the machines, and not finished yet at that.

I'm pretty happy with the way it's shaping up, but I think I'll need to upgrade my computer before long..

When I'm moving around, some groups just turn to rectangles.... what should I be upgrading.. ram, processor, graphics??
edit: This computer with its standard HP onboard graphics card with upto 8× anti-alias live in google sketchup.. my work comp with expensive dual DVI output graphics car won't anti-alias at all live in sketchup...

That's good work and I'm sure your boss will be happy! :dopey:

Though I don't know what you should upgrade.. I'm not good with that part of computers.

Hmmmm this could be your ram, graphics card, or processor. Before you open it up next time hit control+alt+deleat and open up the task manager. In the tabs at the top go to performance then just run the program and move around and stuff just like normal. Then when you're done look at the performance log. If the ram or processor EVER hits 100% you need to upgrade them. But I just read that it had standard hp graphics... You're going to want to check if you can upgrade that. I'm that's probably 80% of your problem.

Huh, glad I found this thread. That R8 looks awesome!

I'm working on a car for a high school class myself right now using Blender.

Kinda rough looking, but I'm just doing the shell first, and I haven't subdivided yet (just set smooth, but it didn't work too well :P)

I don't know how to render properly in blender, so I haven't tried to yet. This is a car I made last year, without using reference images or knowing how to use the program properly

It has no features because I stupidly made the body all one object, and I didn't know how to delete vertices/make faces

How do you do those areas where they are hidden by the rest of the car? Those are the parts that are giving me the most trouble.

Damn, images broke

3D programs are mostly limited by CPU, I think that's what you'd need to upgrade.

For 3D modelling I'd recommend at least a Core 2 Quad on the Intel side or an Athlon II X4 on the AMD side.

Hello there from me as well. Good job on the audi so far, the mork you work on 3d the better you become as long as you commit to it. Here are a few of my renders:

Though I can't compare to anything here, imma something that I once attempted to make on Blender... (about 2 years ago)

Don't diss coz I'm a Star Trek fan. But go ahead and diss the modeling xD (never even finished it)

Hmmm... now imma install blender and try again xD

A render of my fighter (called the F-56A Magnum) with my F-14E Ultra Tomcat:

Used Photoshop to add the exhaust distortion. Couple more renders can be found on my deviantart page...

Nice. 👍 You should do a render over a battlefield or something! :dopey:

Well, I'm pretty much done the modelling of the camaro, but I still need to figure out how to render it properly (and how to make it look nice, "set smooth" looks ugly :yuck:)

Picture_15.png

@MBS: I think for the smoothing, for places you want to have a harder edge, that you have to do what I do. At the edge you want to be harder, add extra lines (polygons, vertexes, whatever you want to call them). I will get a picture to show what I mean.

Damn, Scooterlord, thats like premium quality! Sadly, I tried, and every time I try I just fail miserably at it.

Scooterlord, they're some really impressive renders. Now maybe you can spend some time making your website usable so we can see some more :P.

Too. Much. Flashhhhh.

Forgot about this thread! I had to rush my camaro at the end to get it handed in on time. I didn't quite figure out the smoothing (stupid auto smooth looks terrible) and I didn't have time to make proper car paint materials (generic orange without any advanced render settings), but my teacher was impressed with it (above the level of most people in my class) and I got 97% in the class.

I've been working in a Su-35BM based on the "Shark" trailer from Ace combat Assault horizon:

I'm using Google sketch up 8 (I don't have enough computer for a proper 3D max design :( ),and I have to say that is difficult to render in that one, hence the filter.
